I am most passionate about helping my patients get the smile they deserve. It is so exciting to have apatient leave the office beaming from ear to ear with anew smile. Every day is different and brings a new challenge.

One has to be artistic and creative, and this is what I love about dentistry. I have been practicing for 33 years and working with my patients has been so rewarding. I have provided treatment for several generations of families, and their trust in my staff and me is very fulfilling.

Most of my team has been with me for most of my career, and they are a very special group of people. They are caring and compassionate and work very hard to make our patients feel comfortable. All of us think of our patients as family, and I think youcan see that when youcome to our office. We love to have fun and everyone mayhear laughter in our office throughout the day.

I obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology from the Virginia Military Institute. Upon completion of my undergraduate studies, I served part time with the U.S. Army Reserve. I attended The Ohio State University for dental school, and upon graduation, moved to Colonial Heights, where I purchased a dental practice.

I continue to attend many continuing education courses for implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and sleep apnea, becausedentistry is changing rapidly and I want to provide for my patients the very best possible care. I participate in a monthly study club with other general dentists and specialists, during whichwe share ideas and discuss pertinent topics to dentistry. My patients deserve the very best treatment I can provide and these courses enableme to perform it.

I am a member in the Virginia Dental Association and the American Dental Association. As a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, I have gained knowledge aboutmany facets of general dentistry. I was honored to be inducted into the Pierre Fauchard Academy as well as the International College of Dentists for my achievements in dentistry.

I grew up in Harrison, Ohio, which is near Cincinnati. My father was a veterinarian and I think he first got me interested in healthcare. I live in Chesterwith my wife Sue. Sue is a registered nurse by profession, but now works as a PALS tutor at Harrowgate Elementary School.

I have two sons, Will and Jack. Will atttendedthe University of Virginia where he played soccer. Later he played professionally for the MLS team, the Seattle Sounders. Currently, he has a full-time position with the Richmond Strikers soccer club. My other sonJackwent to Virginia Commonwealth University andplayed soccer for their team. He works for the United Network for Organ Sharing. Both sons reside in Richmond.

When I am not working, I can be found outdoors. I love to play golf, fish (both saltwater and freshwater), and bike on the Capital Trail. I am passionate about youth sports, and havecoached soccer and basketball teams through the years.

I am on the board of directors for the Chester YMCA and my office is involved with the Give Kids a Smile and Donated Dental Programs of the American Dental Association. These programs enablemy office to provide free dental care to underprivileged patients. I like to talk to the various elementary schools about childrens dental health. I have the privilege of being an adjunct professor for the VCU School of Dentistry where I volunteer at the Lucy Corr Dental Clinic with senior dental students to provide dental treatment for the residents there.

I really enjoy getting to know patients and learning about their lives during visits. Our conversations create a bond, and I appreciate being part of each persons life. My job is to treat and prevent gum disease and to educate patients about the importance of caring for their oral health.

I started working in the field in 2006as a dental assistant, then studied dental hygiene at Thomas Nelson Community College and joined Dr. Bates and our team in 2013. I love being part of a team that helps our patients and supports each other.

I enjoy the relationships that develop with patients and like being part of a team that helps people develop healthier, happier smiles. As a hygienist, my job entails not only cleaning and caring for patients teeth, but educating themabout the role oral hygiene plays in their dental, physical, and nutritional health.

Ive worked in the dental field since 1977, starting as a dental assistant and then completing a Bachelorof Science in dental hygiene. Ive been lucky to work with Dr. Bates and this great team since 2000!

I experience a wonderful feeling when I know that I have truly helped someone improve his or herdental health and life. I perform gum therapy for patients, as well as educate them about their mouth and how to improve their dental health. Seeing a person develop better homecare, and a healthier smile, makes me happy!

My career started in 1995, when I completed my Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene. I started working for Dr. Bates in 1999 and love being part of a team that collaborates and works together for the greater good of our patients. We share the same values and want only the best for those in our care.

I like knowing were making a difference in a patients smile, whether thats a cosmetic change or restorative. Its a good feeling to see a healthier smile at the end of a procedure! I assist Dr. Bates with different dental treatments while supporting our patient. I am also in charge of the lab and making sure all lab work is done and ready for patients.

Ive been with the practice since 1993, am a nationally registered dental assistant. Istarted working in the field in 1988. Its a great experience to be part of a team that feels like family and that truly helps people be happier and healthier!

I love to meet new people and establish a relationship with them.I consider my patients to be my friends and enjoy our time together. As a hygienist, I perform continuing care, offer periodontal therapy, and handle treatment planning. My goal is to have comfortable, informed patients who achieve and maintain great smiles!

I like getting to know our patients and helping each feel at ease with their dental experience. A happy smile at the end of a procedure makes my day! I assist Dr. Bates with numerous clinical procedures, tohelppatients get and maintain the smile they want.

My experience in the dental field started in 1983 and I joined this practice in 1990. Dr. Bates is a very kind and caring dentist and our team is a group of compassionate people who love helping others.

Outside of work, I enjoy time with family and friends, and I love cooking. My husband Ricky and I have been married for more than 30 years. We have three children andtwo grandchildren, and are active members of Central Baptist Church.

I have been part of this practice and team since 2002, afterstartingin the field in 1996. Dr. Bates is not only a wonderful dentist but also a wonderful person, and my coworkers are truly my other family. I am blessed to work with all of them!

My free time is spent with my husband, son, and daughter, along with our Boxer and our Chihuahua. I love shopping with my daughter and watching my son play football. I also love being at the beach and helping others.

I enjoy doing dentistry and giving people their confidence back by giving them a new smile. I have been with Dr. Bates and the staff for a year after an intership. I assit Dr Bates chairside and Iam in charge of sterilization. I am also crossed trained to help withthe front desk.
