Insurance and Billing Since we are not a participating provider with any dental insurance company, payment is expected at the time of service; however we will bill your dental insurance as a courtesy to you with the exception of Medicare and Medicaid HMO. Our office is unable to bill any medical insurance.

Dr. Richard Newhart is a Periodontist (gum disease specialist) in Parkersburg, WV. He is the first Periodontist in the state of WV to offer LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure), which is a gentle, more effective way to treat bone loss. The Gum Doctor has been serving the Mid-Ohio Valley since 1989. Procedures he performs include: Dental Implants, Gingival Gum Grafts, Bone Grafting, Frenectomy, Gingivectomy, Crown Lengthening, Tooth Exposures for Orthodontics, Pinhole Surgical Technique to cover exposed roots and more.

Dr. Richard Newhart has done ongoing and extensive specialty training to give the best advanced periodontal care to his patients! He has attended literally thousands of hours of continuing education since graduating from Case Western Reserve Dental School. Dr. Newhart graduated summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve University in 1983 and then attended Case Western Dental School, where he graduated in a group at the top of his class!

Dr. Newhart was accepted right out of dental school into periodontal specialty training at the prestigious University of Washington School of Dentistry Periodontal Program, where he obtained his specialty certificate in the treatment of gum disease, along with five other periodontists.

Dr. Newhart completed an externship on surgical dental implant placement at the MidWest Implant Institute in Columbus in 1999 and was voted the most outstanding intern in his class. He placed his first dental implant in Columbus, OH before ever placing them in Parkersburg, WV.

More recently, Dr. Newhart has had training in advanced laser periodontics, oral surgery and low level laser biostimulation with Waterlase Laser System. The Waterlase laser allows Dr. Newhart to do some surgeries, like biopsies and frenectomies without shots or sutures!

In 2008, Dr. Newhart has also completed the Institute of Advanced Laser Dentistry Proficiency Dental Laser Course, allowing him to do laser-assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP) for his patients using the latest laser FDA treatment for periodontal disease. Dr. Newhart is a licensed gum specialist by the state of West Virginia and dental licensed in WV and OH. Dr. Newhart is the only certified LANAP dentist in the entire state of West Virginia at this time.

Dr. Newhart is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology and has been a member of the WV Dental Society for 25 years! Dr. Newhart believes in keeping up with the latest research and treatment options for his patients!

Amber and her son Ian, recently relocated to Marietta, Ohio from Bakersfield, California. She has spent the last 14 years in hospitality and is new to the Dentistry Field. With a passion for all things hospitality, she is excited to transfer that energy into providing patients with a positive dental experience. On her free time, she and her son enjoy exploring their new home, traveling, and adventuring.

She is a mother of twins, one boy and one girl. Graycen and Ellie keep her very busy with their sports, music, and academic activities. In her spare time, she loves reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors with her family.

Justina has worked in the dental field, both clinical and administrative, for several years. She enjoys helping patients discover the confidence that a healthy smile can bring to their lives. Justina was born in Michigan, grew up in Arizona, and has resided in West Virginia for most of her adult life. She enjoys spending time with her three boys; Kaeden (and wife Addison,) Kyler and Kaleb. In her free time, Justina loves boating, exploring nature, and visiting any and all beach communities.

She had worked for Dr. Newhart in the past and was excited to rejoin his team as the marketing coordinator in 2015. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves being involved and watching her daughters joy for learning and activities!

Patty has worked at Dr. Newharts office since 2002, when she and her husband moved from Texas. She took a few years off to have two children, Lars and Ingrid. Patty and her family enjoy exploring West Virginia through camping,hiking and biking!

Lisa has worked for Dr. Newhart for over 20 years. She is dedicated to helping serve the area and very much enjoys interacting with patients. Lisa and her husband Chris, have a daughter Tiffany, who attends West Liberty University. Lisa enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Laykin grew up in Marietta but returned to give back, and to get to know her community after graduating from WVU with her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. While there, she found her passion for working with patients that have periodontal disease. She loves building relationships with her patients and making them feel comfortable in her chair while educating, and providing individualized self-care and treatment plans. She also enjoys spending time outdoors and the weekends, with her friends and family!

Heather enjoys spending time with her children Jayden, Colten and Raelynn along with her fiance and his two kids, Aubrey and Jackson. They always have their hands full! They love spending time outdoors and between football and cheer, their schedules are always busy. She has been working at our office since June and enjoys every minute of it!

Ashley moved to the area at the end of January 2019, because her husband was transferred here as an Army Recruiter. Her two kids, Colbey and Raelynn, keep her active with their love for baseball and gymnastics! She has an adorable Redbone Coonhound dog and they love spending time outdoors and exploring the area as a family!

Keya is new to the dental assistant career and absolutely loves what she does. She started in our practice, February of 2022. Meeting and interacting with all of our patients, is something she really enjoys! On her free time, she spends time with her daughter Jayda, her puppy Duke, and her husband Ethan and family.
