Appearance is not the only benefit of wearing Invisalign for straighter teeth, since straighter teeth can also benefit one's oral health. In fact crooked teeth can trap food between them and lead to infection or bite issues. At Richard Cottrell, DDS & Associates, we offer Invisalign as a treatment for patients interested in discreetly straightening their teeth.

Invisalign is a series of clear aligner trays that cover the teeth, similar to a retainer or mouth guard, but are much more discreet. At least every two weeks or so, the patient will switch to the next set in the series of Invisalign trays. With the custom aligners for each patient, Invisalign will gradually push the teeth into the right position without causing significant amounts of pain.

After creating the trays, we will then meet with the patient to ensure that they fit and that the patient understands all of the steps in the straightening process. It is important that the patient understand a few key factors about wearing Invisalign on a regular basis.

While the patient can remove Invisalign trays when necessary, the patient will want to keep them in as much as possible. The longer the patient does not wear the trays for, the longer the entire process will take. Patients need to remove the aligner trays when eating and to brush the teeth.

Patients can also remove the aligner trays to play in a sports game, give a presentation, go on a date, or while taking a photo. It is important to at least rinse the mouth after eating to keep food from getting caught in the teeth.

The patient will be able to continue through each aligner tray and follow a schedule with no surprises. By following the schedule, the patient's teeth will continue to move into the proper position without pain.

While wearing Invisalign, patients will not have to brush and floss between brackets with difficulty. In fact, the patient will be able to brush and floss as normal by just removing the aligner trays. However, it is crucial that the patient brush after each meal to keep food from sticking between the teeth.

Food that is stuck in the teeth can also damage the aligners. It is important that patients do not wear the aligners while drinking soda or other beverages while wearing Invisalign aligners. We recommend that patients only keep the aligners in when drinking water.

We customize the Invisalign aligners to fit the patient's teeth and then use programming technology to digitally map out the projected rate of movement for the patient. We will then build the rest of the clear aligners in the series. Each new set of aligners will be a bit closer to the correct position for straight teeth.

With a customized straightening treatment, patients do not need to worry about the aligners falling out or being loose. Since there is no one-size-fits-all treatment, we make sure that the trays are the right fit for each patient.

Invisalign aligner trays are nearly invisible to the point that few people will notice them unless the individual mentions wearing them. Patients will not have to feel embarrassed by wearing traditional metal braces or a mess of wires in their mouth on a regular basis. Invisalign allows for the patient to receive the straight smile they desire without the maintenance of going through braces treatment.

There are a lot of teeth straightening methods that someone looking to improve their smile can consider. Traditional braces are well known, but over the years, dentistry has modernized, which has allowed for an expansion on the options.Considering teeth straightening to improve your smile? Be careful. I was quoted a very different price over the phone vs what I was charged. I was quoted $62.70 for a cleaning and charged $105.60. This was just one charge in a long list of charges totaling over $770 for 2 kids cleaning and 1 adult cleaning. When asked for an explanation I was told it was because we were new patients...even though this was known at the time I made the appointment. I tried to resolve this by talking to the office and they were not willing to make any price adjustment. After reading other reviews it looks like this is a pattern for this practice. The hygienist and care was fine but I would not go here again due to cost and unclear and misleading pricing.

Dr. Cottrell is an excellent dentist. I had a dental emergency and was able to phone his office on the weekend. He saw me immediately and followed up throughout the week. Routine cleanings are very thorough and the staff is wonderful in discovering how much insurance will cover prior to the recommended procedure. The office also supports our King George community through many donations and volunteering. Highly recommend!

The receptionist gave me a price over the phone for cleaning a minor child's teeth at a price of $80 but when I went in, I was told that the cost would be $345.00+. Wasted my time because I had to take the day off from work.

I was told that my insurance would fully cover my procedures then After 4 months I received a bill for 930.00 after I had paid 700.00 for my deductible, without any breakdowns to what I was even charged for. Please find another dentist and do not go here unless you want to be lied to and charged after the fact.

Would give -5 stars if I could. They totally scammed my husband out of his money.. A YEAR later saying "well we have up to a year to bill you" When at the office they told him he wouldn't be charged. His review is also posted!

Leaving 1 star because it wont let me leave a review without it. The front desk and dental hygienists are very friendly but thats about the only good thing I can say. I went in for a wisdom teeth extraction and was told I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket because one of the teeth was infected making it an emergency surgery. Exactly a year later, and I am hit with a bill for almost $800. While the cost is annoying, the real thing that upsets me is that I was mislead by whoever took care of me that day. Something doesn't seem right about all this and I hope no one else experiences this. Definitely shady.

Went to this office because of a tooth Ache, an X-ray was taken the Dentist came in and pulled my wisdom tooth which was horrible with all the back and forth. I figured the dentist looked at the X-ray and determined my wisdom tooth was the causing pain. After the numbing medication wore off the pain was off the charts. The pain I endured over 3 days cause me to see another dentist. Come to find out one the teeth in front of my wisdom tooth was infected. I never got a good explanation from the Dentist as to why my wisdom tooth was pulled and the infected tooth ignored.

Extremely nice facility and a super efficient and Courteous staff! They were able to fit me in last minute twice and the staff stayed late to make sure I didn't go home in pain. Then the dentist called to check on me a few hours later. Without a doubt the best dental experience of my life!!! Dr. Cottrell you better pay out Christmas bonus to your great employees.

My husband has had a pay cut with his job his position has been desolved at work and tried to tell this to the dentist that is when he threated us with Child protection services if we didn't get the work done .And because he is way over priced we are on a severely reduced income, to what my husband was making 10 year's ago. And yet he uses intimidation by threating his patients with Child protection services just because he thinks that we are neglecting our child's teeth that needs work because of having cavities. That is no way to talk to your patients especially during hard times when we're struggling. The staff is nice but Richard Cottrell was very demanding. Sara E.

Friendly & welcoming - the hygienist (I don't remember her first name) and Dr. Cottrell had me laughing during my visit which many cannot say about a visit to the dentist. They were very knowledgeable and explained what was being done, what findings meant, and the next steps that were needed. I've always enjoyed the dentist for cleanings and haven't had a bad experience except for the last two times at a different practice, which really had me upset and worried about future care. Thanks for making me enjoy the dentist again.

I have had extensive surgery prior to seeing Dr. Cottrel and it has never been successful. I have been to him several times for consultations and one visit with him, without having to be heavily sedated, and I am on my way to having a smile again. He is honest about what does and does not need to occur. There is no unnecessary procedures performed to extend the treatment time and cost. As I stated in the beginning of my review, I have been to many dentists, and he is by far the best I have seen. His staff is also amazing!

I can't give any more than the one star and can't tell you about their services because they never responded to my first inquiry for an appointment and they did respond to my second inquiry, assured me they would call me back once they verified my insurance information and never did. I went to another Dentist in Dahlgren instead and am very happy there.

I love this place. I have no clue what the other reviewers are talking about. How can you honestly sit back and blame these people for your husband losing his job ? Its Not their problem. This is not a charity it's a dental practice. Furthermore how can you judge the office for having having "unnecessary equipment "??!! How ludicrous. Hm didn't know these patients also went to dental school eh? Perhaps being cooped up the last year made them extra petty and critical. Dr. Cottrell is an amazing dentist. I have a deathly fear of the dentist and his jokes and friendly demeanor is awesome. His work is exquisite. I had two root canals done they are holding up perfectly. The procedure was painless honestly. I had no gas just local anesthetic. His staff is also very very nice. I think the last few people who left bad reviews were being overly critical and judgemental.

Listen, I'm so thankful for this whole entire office because I am a current patient but I am especially thankful for Dr. Martin and the sweet amazing assistant that worked with him today (ON A SUNDAY!) to help remove my fiance's infected tooth. He was in absolute agony from 1am Saturday morning till 8am today but I called after hours yesterday and Dr. Martin made it happen quickly as well as communicated well and fast. I'm so thankful they took time out of their day off to take care of him. He is already feeling relief. We got there at 8am and his tooth was out by 8:30am. They were so quick, it was painless for him and they were also SO KIND. Thank you over and over for coming in and taking care of him. He couldn't wait any longer!

Terrified of the dentist due to a bad experience. Dr. Cottrell made me feel so at ease and the staff members were just as great. I only wish I had found your office much sooner. I will definitely be coming back and recommend to all who are looking for a dentist.
