Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, our doctors manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. Our doctors practice a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. We can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries, and fractures.

The surgical staff at High Plains Oral & Facial Surgeons are experienced, certified oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants, who assist in the administration of IV sedation and surgery. We also have a trained registered nurse (RN) to assist in surgery. All staff are informed administrative personnel, well-versed in health and insurance policies, and are CPR certified.

Dr. Martin Salgueiro was born in Buenos Aires Argentina. At the age of two, his family moved to Caracas Venezuela where he grew up. He obtained his dental degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1996. Dr. Salgueiro practiced general dentistry in Venezuela until 2003, then came to the US to pursue training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

He completed surgical internships at Loyola University in Chicago IL, University of Miami in Miami FL, and Vanderbilt University in Nashville TN. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 2009. After completing his training, Dr. Salgueiro stayed at MCG as a faculty member in the OMS department, training dental students and surgical residents. He served as the director of pre-doctoral oral surgery training and director of the oral surgery outpatient clinic at Augusta University (former Medical College of Georgia). He was an attending surgeon at the Cancer Center head and neck tumor board and the craniofacial team at the same institution.

Dr. Salgueiro is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and maintains his certification in Advance Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Dr. Salgueiro is a member of the American Dental Association and a Fellow of the American and the International Associations of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He practices full scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including procedures in the areas of dentoalveolar surgery, implants and bone grafting, maxillofacial pathology, maxillofacial trauma, and orthognathic surgery.

Dr. Salgueiro and his wife Mildred have two daughters, Nina and Abril. In his free time, he likes to spend time with family and friends. He enjoys music, traveling, and skiing. Dr. Salgueiro is fluent in English and Spanish.

Dr. Larry D. Chesley was born in Brenham, Texas and raised in Austin, Texas. He graduated from Texas Lutheran College in 1979 with a double major in chemistry and biology. He received his DDS degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1982. He completed a general practice residency in 1983 and practiced general dentistry for two years in Waco, Texas. He then completed a four-year residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, finishing in 1989. St. Marys Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri was his final educational stop where he completed a fellowship in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He focused on orthognathic and temporomandibular joint surgery and finished in 1990.

Dr. Chesley joined High Plains Oral and Facial Surgeons in 1990. He is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and maintains his certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Life Support. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and Panhandle District Dental Society (PDDS). He has held many leadership roles in the PDDS.

Dr. Chesley and his wife, Laresa, have three children Walker, Evan, and Makena. Besides hanging out with family and friends, he enjoys the outdoors, tennis, wakeboarding, water, and snow skiing, and is an avid gardener.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires up to 6 additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, we treat a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. Our surgeons practice a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise in corrective jaw surgery, wisdom tooth removal, and oral pathology. They can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries and perform a full range of dental implant procedures.

Our staff is trained in assisting our surgeons with IV sedation within our office setting. Patients are continuously monitored during and after surgery. In addition, general anesthesia provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist is available within our facility.
