Ian Shaw was born in the artists' colony of Laguna Beach, California. It was a magical place to grow up, with the beach as his back yard, exploring tidepools and the ocean with his Golden Retrieveras his faithful by his side.
He moved to the Midwest when his mom returned to her hometown, Davenport. After graduating from Assumption High School, he attended The University of Iowa as an undergraduate. It was at UI that he met his wife, Ashley.
Ian showed an interest in surgery & anatomy at a young age, wielding an exacto-knife with adult like precision to sculpt teeth and intricate bones in his creations. His artistic abilities have translated into his passion for esthetics. Whether you need a simple filling, bonding, crown, or a more complicated procedure, creating the most realistic, proportioned, and anatomically correct smile.
Ian graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2005. While in dental school, he held summer positions in Oral Surgery and Family Dentistry. Upon graduation, he was a resident in Pediatric Dentistry for one year.
In 2006, he started practicing Family Dentistry in Cedar Rapids. In private practice, he was able to combine his love of esthetics with his training to treat even the youngest of patients and those with special needs.Ian is very passionate about what he does because he cares so deeply for his patients.He was recruited by faculty at UI College of Dentistry to teach and held an adjunct position in Family Dentistry until 2014.
In his free time, Ian still creates art. While his passion for photography is most evident in the office, he also enjoys sculpting and drawing and helping to teach his young daughters how to paint with oils.
Hanging out with his family and friends is his favorite way to spend the weekend. Whether it's skateboarding or frisbee golf or swimming or exploring outdoors, he makes it an adventure for the whole family.

After way too many years of not seeing a dentist, this place makes you feel loved and treats you like family! So far have an amazing experience with all the staff!

I've been seeing Dr. Shaw and his team for over 2 years and couldn't be more pleased. I'm in need of a considerable amount of "dental work" to be done...Dr. Shaw has the absolute highest dental expertise and equipment, with the ability to explain everything and make you feel completely comfortable. The office and staff are very welcoming which is the cherry on top.

I Couldn't find any dentistry's that could work with my situation and came upon this place and as my first time visiting it was amazing and everyone was really nice and welcoming. 100% Recommend !

Just moved to Marion and needed to find a new dentist and wow!!! This place is amazing! Chelsea was very thorough and incredibly gentle. She made sure I was totally numb (huge win because it's been a challenge elsewhere). Erin up front made sure I knew exactly what I was paying for and explained everything a patient doesn't typically understand when looking at the billing aspect. The office was super clean and decorated comfortably chic! 10/10 recommend!

I've been going to Dr Shaw for around 10 years. I can't rave enough about him or his practice. He has a knack for surrounding himself with incredible staff, and I couldn't be happier with him or the work he has done for me.

I had heard from numerous people Dr. Shaw was so great with children. I made the decision to switch my 3 children to his office. After seeing how gentle and great he was with my children and how they got excited to see him (which is incredible for a dentist) I decided to make the switch for myself and husband! I was always a bit nervous when it came to going to the dentist but Dr. Shaw and his staff all made me feel so comfortable. Dr. Shaw really took the time to listen and address any concerns I had. I have been so impressed with all of my experiences.

Short version: Dr. Shaw at Restoration Dental is a brilliant dentist, highly skilled and great with children. Long version: Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of dentists. Dentists have always conjured up visions of pain and confusion, because I had a really hard time being numbed for dental work. That all changed when a friend told me about Restoration Dental (by the referral of my knowledgeable and beautiful wife). Dr. Ian Shaw, of Restoration Dental, is without qualification the most wonderful and skillful dentist with whom I have ever interacted. He's brilliant and amiable, talented and engaging. After finding out that I needed several cavities filled and a crown to boot, I was very disheartened. Dentists have never been effective at numbing my lower jaw, and I've had several cavities drilled out with only partial numbing; I didn't want to try another one. Dr. Shaw took the time to understand my background and worked with me to build trust. He successfully numbed me for the procedures, and I walked away satisfied like I never have been after a dentist visit. I'm an engineer by trade. I'm the kind of person who needs to understand something to drive action. This is another area where Restoration Dental really shines. The culture of the business puts a high emphasis on patient education, because they believe that education drives positive behavior. It certainly worked in my case! After decades of not flossing, I have flossed daily for five months now. I trust Restoration Dental. They have modern equipment, kind and capable staff, and a highly skilled, gifted dentist. If you're apprehensive about dentists like I was, or just needing to find an area dentist, give them a call.
