For most situations, common sense will tell you what to avoid. Hard foods, sticky foods, and foods high in sugar must be avoided. Hard foods can break or damage wires and brackets, and sticky foods can get caught between brackets and wires and also loosen or break them. Minimize sugary foods, as they cause tooth decay and related problems. Nail biting, pencil and pen chewing, and chewing on foreign objects should also be avoided.
We are pleased to offer our patients orthodontic-specific mouthguards for sports activities. Unlike boil-and-fit mouthguards, which fit tightly and prevent tooth movement, our mouthguards are designed to fit around orthodontic appliances and allow bite correction and tooth alignment to take place.
Brush your removable retainers every day as a part of your regular brushing and flossing schedule. Because food particles and plaque can accumulate on your appliance just as they do on your teeth, soak your retainers daily. Dissolve a Polident, Efferdent, or a similar denture-cleaning tablet in a glass of tap water at room temperature, and soak your retainers as needed. Your retainers will taste better, and you will help to prevent plaque and bacterial accumulation.

I must preface this by saying that Dr. Resler was my orthodontist thirty years ago, so I am not quite sure how applicable my review might be to his 21st century patients. Furthermore, I must also say that thanks in part to Dr. Resler's work, my teeth are straight. And I acknowledge that straightening them was no mean feat. I was genetically blessed, so to speak, with a pronounced overbite and severely crooked teeth. But I now have a very pretty smile, thanks in part to his efforts. (I say "in part" because I've had multiple orthodontists.) Now, that being said--my review is only two stars because of Dr. Resler's manner. As a preteen, I found him to be condescending, rude, and arrogant. A good medical professional treats all of his patients with kindness and respect, regardless of their age, especially when he knows that the necessary medical treatments are likely to be painful--as orthodontic work often is. However, I was rarely treated with respect in Dr. Resler's office and in fact found myself on the receiving end of a furious diatribe upon informing him of my decision, at age twelve, to take up the clarinet. Instead of patiently explaining to me how playing the clarinet would negatively impact my teeth, he screamed at me as though I had deliberately sought to defy him. This brought me to tears. But perhaps I should have expected no better from the owner of a Porsche with the vanity plate "TINGRIN". There are dozens of competent orthodontists in the Tri-Cities area that know how to both straighten teeth and treat their juvenile patients with kindness, dignity, and respect. Dr. Resler has proven to this patient that he is only capable of the former. I suggest that parents take the time to find one capable of doing both. EDIT: Reply to Dr. Richard Resler, Jr. If you spent time in your dad's office growing up, then you are likely all too familiar with his arrogance and disdain for those he perceived beneath him. While I'm sure that, by now, the practice is reflective of your own values, not those of your father, the fact that his name remains on the practice means you must come to terms with both the good and bad of his legacy. If he is still living, I hope that the years have humbled him somewhat, but knowing what I do of human nature. I highly doubt it.

I was a little bit scared to get Invisalign as an adult, as I never had braces before. Rich, Tracie, and the whole staff made the whole experience amazing! I love that I can now be confident when I smile. They worked with the slight damage I did as a lifelong nail biter (which I no longer do now thanks to them, as well!) If you are looking for orthodontists who care and provide superb customer service, look no further. Thank you Dr. Rich and Dr. Tracie for my amazing new smile!

The entire experience at Resler Orthodontics was great. My daughter got her braces off last week and looks phenomenal. They encouraged her to do what she needed to in order to get good results and it paid off big time. I would highly recommend Resler to anyone looking for orthodontic treatment.

Putting my first child in braces was a little intimidating; however, Dr. Resler and his staff held our hand each step of the way. From expectations, finances and overall care, the entire staff was amazing! Each and every appointment we had over the span of just a little over two years was perfect. They truly care about their patients and my daughter's teeth are beautiful!

More than anything I am appreciative of the staff and the way they treat us always.. I have complete respect and confidence in them all!! This office is great at their profession but the hours make it almost impossible to maintain treatment. I have to take time off work and pull my kids out of school because they are only open until 5:00. We won't be using Resler for my next kids needing ortho.

I couldn't have asked for a better orthodontist! The staff was exceptionally friendly, personable, and professional. Drs. Rich and Tracie were very accommodating and worked with my schedule, even though I live far away. The treatment was also extremely comprehensive and effective. This team has a lot of pride in their work, and I'd recommend them to anyone!

I'm on another account... THIS ORTHODONTIST IS THE BEST! Do you need to take care of your self? They have a rewards program! Like if you want an iTunes gift card...just a couple of good check ups and you got it! I just got an expander and braces are next but I'm not scared with Dr. Resler being there because he talks you through everything! 1000000/5 if I could rate that.

Dr. Resler and the crew have been amazing. I brought my 8th grade daughter in. She would smile because she hated her teeth so much. Dr. Resler made my now 10th grader have the biggest smile again. The rewards program is fantastic. my daughter took taking care of her braces very serious and today they came off. I would highly recommend Dr. Resler to any age group.
