Dr. Richard Van Der Sluys received his Bachelors degree in Biology from Bowling Green State University and graduated from the Ohio State University School of Dentistry in 1992 with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Since that time, he has worked in a variety of settings in Ohio before moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1999. His professional collaborations have enabled him to draw on the experiences of the many different colleagues he has worked with.
Dr. Van Der Sluys is committed to providing the best care possible by staying up-to-date on the latest advances in dentistry. His primary continuing education interest is refining his skills at seminars dealing with disease prevention, cosmetic, and restorative topics. This combined with his history of working with many other dentists has given him the experience to provide a broad range of treatment options.
Dr. Van Der Sluys and his wife, Lisa, have two boys, Austin and Justin, and a chocolate lab named Coco. In his free time he enjoys the great outdoors through skiing, fishing, diving, and hiking. He is also a Cub Scout den leader.

I am Dr. Van Der Sluyss assistant and have been for the last 6 years. I grew up here in Redmond but I completed dental assisting school in Wichita KS where I lived for 5 years. I love my job and especially love interacting with my patients. My goal is to make our patients comfortable, happy and hopefully leave with a smile on their face. I love to laugh and spend time with my family. I have one spunky 10 year old son and we enjoy movie and popcorn nights. I am also a part-time bartender and I raise chickens in my free time. I looooove camping, quading, reading, sewing, shopping and crafting.
As a dental hygienist and scientist, I aim to improve my patients health by delivering excellent evidence-based care in a gentle and a respectful manner. My goal is to provide exceptional treatment and to educate patients about the connection between dental health and overall health.
Im a Canadian by birth, a Chicagoan by upbringing, and a Seattleite by choice. I began my first career in biotechnology, where I worked on cloning projects for medical applications. From my biotech work, I realized I preferred working directly with people over working with microscopes. As my two children were finishing up their high school years, I returned to school to earn my dental hygiene degree from Lake Washington Institute of Technology. I joined the office of Dr. Van Der Sluys in June 2016.
In my free time, I enjoy reading fictional biographies, power naps, and eating my daughters delicious cooking. When Im not meandering on local trails with family and our Alaskan Malamute, I can be found tending to my garden and designing my next landscaping projects.
My goal is to put people at easy by creating an environment that is very friendly. I enjoy sharing personal stories with patients and getting to know them as friends while we work together to achieve ideal dental health. Everyone in this office is dedicated to a high standard of excellence, and though we love to have fun with our jobs, we take dental care very seriously. I have been a dental hygienist for many years and continue to enjoy challenging myself and keeping current with the latest research through continuing education classes.
My husband, Gary, and I have three married sons and 2 beautiful granddaughters. My free time is spent working out, quilting, camping, hiking, motorcycle riding, as well as doing weekly Therapy Dog visits to the hospital and Hospice with out giant Leonberger dog. We moved here 12 years ago from North Pole, Alaska where we had lived for 23 years.
I have lived here in the Seattle area most of my life. I have 4 adult children and currently 4 grandchildren between the ages of 1yr and 16yrs. In my spare time I love to knit, read and watch football (Green Bay Packers) and baseball (Seattle Mariners).

I broke a filling and finding my current dentist of 15 years was no longer in network with my new company's insurance plan - I called Dr. Van Der Sluys' office. They were able to get me in the next day with an office visit to assess the situation. Once I got in - the visit turned into a full restoration with a new filling - all in less than an hour. Dr Van Der Sluy was incredible and got my tooth fixed so fast I could not believe it. Great job. I have found a new dentist.

He is always taking care of me and my wife plus I know friends who are also very happy with his service. He is the best dentist I've ever had. If you want the best care possible I would strongly recommend Richard.

Don't go here. 7:30 am appointment got cancelled at 4:30pm previous day because hygienist is sick. When asked for another appointment, got told that next appointment is 3 months from now, and that they are not willing to accommodate any other time before that. They don't seem to realize that it was their fault that the appointment got cancelled. Also, the receptionist was extremely rude, and not willing to consider any other solution. Even though the dentist is ok, my family will never go to this dentist again. There are plenty of other nearby dentists.

My family and I have been patients here for approximately 4 years and wouldn't want to go to anyone else! The staff are outstanding and Dr. Van Der Sluys is extremely professional and an exquisite dentist! Even after we moved from Redmond Ridge to Lake Stevens, we continue to utilize their services...we wouldn't have it any other way!!!

I've been coming here for a few years now and have consistently had high quality service. Everyone is pleasant and extremely competent. The receptionist/office manager knows how my insurance works and advises my scheduling with mastery. The dentist is excellent and has a great touch. I never feel pain. He is also honest. If I don't need work, he doesn't suggest it. The support staff is great too. I highly recommend this clinic and do so to my coworkers since my office is very close.
