When some hear the word prosthodontist they may think that youre referring to an obscure dinosaur that lived thousands of years ago when in reality, it means something totally different! Long story short, a prosthodontics is a field within dentistry that focus on the ability to restore both the appearance and functionality of a smile. Our prosthodontist in Kansas City, Dr. Edward Amet, is a specialist in dental restoration when normal dentistry isnt enough.
THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF PROSTHODONTISTS Founded in 1970, the American College of Prosthodontists is a non-profit educational and scientific organization created to represent the needs and interests of Prosthodontists within organized dentistry and to the public by providing a means for stimulating awareness and interest in the field of Prosthodontics. It is the goal of the ACP to be the global resource for all aspects of the specialty.
As the ADA-recognized organization for the specialty of Prosthodontics, the ACP has developed a number of tangible and intangible benefits for the dental professional. The Journal of Prosthodontics is one of the most respected scientific journals. The Prosthodontic Forum puts members in touch with other association members via the Internet to discuss hot topics and exchange information. The ACP Annual Session provides access to renowned educational offerings and the latest innovations and technologies.
The American Board of Prosthodontics (ABP) is the certifying body of the specialty responsible for examining and certifying those individuals who have the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary to become board-certified specialists.
The ACP regularly communicates and interacts with the ADA, especially with the Council on Dental Education and Licensure and the Commission on Dental Accreditation as well as other dental specialty organizations to discuss, support and influence key issues affecting the specialty of Prosthodontics.
The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty organization where membership is based solely on education credentials, where members must be in or have completed an ADA-accredited advanced education program in prosthodontics. The ACP currently has over 2,700 members in North America and abroad. Membership is based on the following criteria: Students (must have completed dental school and be in an ADA-accredited prosthodontic education program), Member (must have completed dental school plus three additional years in an ADA-accredited prosthodontic education program), Fellow (must have completed dental school plus three additional years in an ADA-accredited prosthodontic education program, and be certified by the ABP), Life (any prosthodontist who meet the above requirements for Member/Fellow status, but is currently retired from the specialty or prosthodontics and has been in the practice for at least 15 years or 10 consecutive years, or has reached the age 65), and Honorary (any individual who does not meet the criteria for any of the above categories, but has made a significant contribution to the specialty of prosthodontics).
A prosthodontist is a dental specialist in the restoration and replacement of teeth. Extensive training and education provide prosthodontists with the skills for restoring optimum function and aesthetics to your smile. These include: crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, complete and removable partial dentures, dental implants, TMD-jaw joint problems, traumatic injuries to the mouths structures and/or teeth, snoring and sleep disorders, and oral cancer reconstruction and continuing care.
To continually increase knowledge within the membership as well as others within the discipline, the college recently formed an alliance with certified dental technicians. The ACP Certified Dental Technician Alliance is a forum of certified dental technicians created within the college to foster a team-building mechanism between prosthodontists and their technician partners. This alliance will promote the exchange of industry news and standards, offer communications and continuing education for both prosthodontists and certified dental technicians, and reinforce the commitment that both groups share in providing optimal patient care.
EDward M. Amet has a Bachelor of Science, BS degree from the University of Puget Sound and received his Doctor Dental Surgery, DDS degree in 1969 from Northwestern University Dental School. In 1974, he received his Master of Science, MSD degree from the University of Missouri with a Certificate in Prosthodontics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry. His training includes IV Conscious Sedation Anesthesia and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He placed his first implant in 1974 and has extensive training and experience in both the surgical and prosthodontic phases of therapy, with skilled and talented onsite dental staff and technicians.

Having implants and dentures for over 20 years I had developed a couple of complicated issues: having grown tired of the assembly line process; and, being talked at by other dental professionals. I made an appointment with Dr. Amet. he evaluated my issues, developed a comprehensive plan, explained it in detail and executed the plan to perfection! His skill, experience and expertise in his field were beyond my expectations . Dr. Amet and his staff were and are an excellent find for me !

I have been Dr. Edward M. Amet's patient since 2009 when my teeth were in terrible condition. I believe that I found Dr. Amet on the internet and, after having read some reviews, decided to make an appointment. It was the best decision that I have made regarding my dental needs. Dr. Amet diagnosed my problems, performed the much needed surgery [including bone grafts because of loss of bone due to infection] installed some super strong metal implants in my mouth over which a fantastic set of dentures sat. In my 12th year of wearing these dentures I decided that it was it was time for a new set, which I received a week ago and now wear with confidence. I am thankful for Dr. Amet's extraordinary expertise in reconstructing my mouth so that now I can smile and eat with confidence and for his caring and kind staff, Pat and Virginia.

I have been a patient with Dr Amet since 2007. I have had dentures since I was eighteen. My first set lasted 30 years and when faced with getting a new set, I was in a delimma. I got a recommendation from another dentist for someone to make my new dentures. It was a disaster. I wore the ill-fitting dentures for 5 years and when I could finally not eat properly, I looked for another professional for help. I found Dr Amet on the internet and after our initial consultation, I knew I had found the right person. He put a bar implant for the lower and did bone grafts for the upper to improve the retention. Fantastic, I could chew again. Anything I wanted. I have continued to use his office for the bar/implant cleaning and recently had him make a new set of dentures with porcelain teeth. I am very happy and would recomment him to anyone looking to improve their dental health and appearance.

Dr Amet did an awesome job on my permanent denture! When I arrived at his office, I had an upper denture that looked awful and didn't fit my mouth correctly. Dr Amet had to start from scratch to remake a new denture. He spent a lot of time and effort to make this denture and to fix the work of previous dentist. He is very detail orientated, worked very hard and spent several hours making a denture that I was very happy with! I would highly recommend Dr Amet. He is dedicated to his profession and works very hard to make a great product

I had my implants done Dr.Amet. First of all my case was unique. After going to many different Dentists I finally found Dr. Amet. He sat down with me and my husband in his office and we discussed the different treaments out there. He let me get involved in the decision making and was not pushy at all . Soon thereafter he started the work which was going to take time due to the bad condition I came in with to see him. He was amazing from start to finish. He is very professional kind and helpful. His staff is also very nice. By the time all the work was done I felt like we were all like family. Iam still going to his office for maintenance cleaning of my implants. I get compliments about my beautiful smile all the time. Dr. Amet really made a difference to my appearance. Iam glad I found him and I would recommend him to family and friends.

My wife and I were getting really discouraged with her dental dilemma last summer 2016. The first attempt at implants by a local oral surgeon ended with disastrous results. Unfortunately, the dental implants did not take and came out like stripped screws. We went to several consultations, and we were turned away. On the last consultation, my wife left in tears but the Dentist did us a solid and recommended Dr. Edward Amet. We scheduled a consultation Dr Amet. I was very impressed with Dr Amet from the start. He patiently described and showed what needed to be done. He also explained that the previous attempt at implants by the oral surgeon was most likely of the result "an overheated drill bit". Dr. Amet was very direct and honest regarding my wife's dental situation. I left this consultation feeling hopeful for my wife. I told my wife Dr. Amet is the man for the job. If he cannot do these implants nobody can. We scheduled her appointment and she had the surgery. The surgery was a success! I was so impressed by Dr. Amet's care for her. Dr. Amet helped me get her in car after surgery. She was unsteady on her feet from the anesthesia. The end result were beautiful teeth! I also want to give a thumbs up to Dr. Amet's staff. They were very friendly and professional throughout the entire process. Bottom line, would I recommend Dr. Amet? Absolutely! We are very satisfied. A few last words: Dr. Amet is a perfectionist and he takes his time to get it right. I thought his price were fair. One must realize that dental reconstruction is not cheap. The end result was totally worth it. My wife can smile again!

My bridge needed repair and I talked with Dr. Amet's office and was able to get an appointment that very day (this morning). He first took the time to consult with me about it to ensure I understood the procedure and presented other possible options to consider. After weighing all of my options, I chose the option that was best for me. He did an EXCELLENT job!!! I have had my bridge repaired a few times over the years and I can tell you that Dr. Amet did a very thorough, superb job! He's very precise and knows what he's doing. I have a new dentist!! I highly recommend him for whatever your dental needs are. My thanks to Dr. Amet and his staff. You all are very professional and the working environment is so warm and friendly. I enjoyed my experience. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I have been unfortunate to need several crowns , I have to admit that Dr. Amet work far exceed other dentist and prothodontist work , he is excellent at his work very perfect job , the fit the shape the color , he really does amazing work , he is problem solver , very didicated , very precise and perfrectionist , I thought he was expensive at first but now I will not do crown except with him , on the long term I saved money on the the work he did because I never had problem with it , I really got what I paid for . Diffidently recommend him highly .

Dr. Amet is an extraordinarily talented and skilled prosthodontist. My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Amet for about 20 years; he has done restorative work, as well as general dentistry, for both of us. He is a perfectionist -- which is exactly what you want in someone doing procedures that have such a dramatic effect on your appearance. For example, he will take whatever time is necessary to make certain that restorative work looks completely natural and blends with the rest of your teeth. For example, if he's doing a crown, he doesn't just get "close" to the color that will work best with your other teeth: he takes the time to get it exactly right. Before any procedure begins, he explains in great detail what will be done, what it will cost, and what options you may have. Because Dr. Amet knows of my "techie" interests, he thought I might enjoy a brief tour of his practice's on-site dental lab. I did. And I was impressed that he has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the very latest technology to serve his patients.
