Dr. Kaufman received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lafayette College and is a 1989 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He practices all aspects of general dentistry and enjoys pediatric and geriatric care. He is past president of the South County Dental Society and is a delegate to the Rhode Island Dental Association. Dr. Kaufman is a member of the Shoreline Synergy implant study group which meets regularly to discuss innovations and solutions in implant dentistry. He has restored simple and complex implant cases with remarkable results. His interests include cruising the waters between Long Island and Cape Cod and is a member of the Westerly Fire Department and the Westerly Power Squadron. Dr. Kaufman is a founder and president of Westerly Area Youth Lacrosse. He has coached boys and girls teams at the youth level and is a coach for the Westerly High School Boys team.

3D dental imaging is used for diagnostic purposes and helps us detect abscesses, cysts, bone loss, and developmental abnormalities (missing or extra teeth). 3D dental scanning allows us to more effectively diagnose a complex dental concern.

Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) to capture and store the digital image on a computer. This image can instantly be viewed and enlarged, helping the dentists and dental hygienists detect problems easier. Digital x-rays reduce radiation 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.

The intra-oral camera broadcasts images for both the patient and doctor to see. Instantaneously, images of your mouth are sent to a computer screen so that both the patient and doctor can review your oral health together. This fantastic newer technology allows you to relax in your chair while simultaneously observing a real-time movie of the inside of your mouth. Your images are magnified beyond standard size on an adjacent computer monitor. Not only does this makes it simple to see and understand what is happening in your mouth, but it makes it simple for us to keep incredibly accurate records from one visit to the next.
