Children are recommended to see the orthodontist by age 7. While it may seem early, this age is recommended because it is usually the time their permanent teeth start to come in. And ultimately, it is always best to see an orthodontist sooner, rather than later, as it can be better for your child in the long run. Early orthodontics visits help the orthodontist identify and address potential problems now, as opposed to waiting until theyre teenagers. However, if your child is older, dont worry--you can still schedule a visit to find out if there are any developmental problems that will require orthodontic treatment.

At Rawle Orthodontics, our team specializes in braces for children and can help guide you and your child throughout the entire process. Creating a healthy smile and bite for your child is extremely important, and we have more options than ever to make it happen. We offer a wide range of braces that can be chosen based on cost, preference, appearance, the level of maintenance, and much more. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that your child receives the best orthodontic treatment to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.

The great news about braces for children today is that they work better and are more comfortable than ever before. Braces are no longer a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, you have different options to choose from for your child.

Traditional metal braces are known as being the tried and true style of orthodontic treatment. Traditional braces straighten teeth through a system of metal brackets, archwires, and elastic bands. The brackets adhere to the teeth using a special dental glue that keeps them in place. The archwires create a gentle pressure that helps the teeth slide into their correct positions overtime.

Traditional braces do a great job at getting the job done extremely well, especially in cases of severe misalignment. If your child has a more complex case, traditional braces allow great control for straightening teeth. Additionally, traditional braces work fast and very efficiently. Traditional braces are also more cost-effective, which is important for families on a budget.

While the cons of traditional braces are manageable, there are some food restrictions, which means your child should not eat taffy-like candy or gum, as well as hard or uncooked vegetables during treatment. Traditional braces also require the rubber bands to be changed every four-to-six weeks; however, many children actually enjoy this process, as they can switch out the rubber band colors.

Partial braces are a great solution for children who do not need a full set of braces. They allow us to target specific teeth. For example, when your child has straight, but gappy teeth; straight upper teeth, but crooked lower teeth; or one or two teeth with a cross bite, then partial braces may be an ideal solution for your child.

Self-ligating braces are one of the most advanced systems in the world of orthodontics. This is because they are much like traditional braces; however, elastic, rubber bands, or metal ties are not present because they are not required for the appliances effectiveness. Instead, special metal clips are used to hold the archwires to the brackets.

Ceramic braces are an orthodontic treatment that have clear brackets. This system is ideal for individuals who want to reduce the impact that braces have on their appearance, making them less visible than traditional braces.

Although the brackets are less visible, they are larger, which may be uncomfortable for your childs mouth. Additionally, ceramic braces are more fragile and if your child is not careful, they may break them while playing or chewing.

Invisalign is a very popular alternative to traditional braces, as it allows orthodontists to straighten teeth without the use of metal braces. They are clear aligners that fit over the teeth, and dont require traditional brackets or wires. The aligners are custom-made to fit each patient's teeth. About every two weeks, the patient throws out the old set of aligners and replaces it with a newer, straighter set. This allows the aligners to gradually move the teeth into straighter positions.

Many people love Invisalign, as they are virtually invisible. They must be removed for brushing, flossing, and eating. Therefore, there are no food restrictions throughout the Invisalign treatment. The aligners are highly durable so your child wont have to worry about a popped wire or a broken metal piece.

While there are tons of pros to Invisalign, this is not always the top choice that parents choose for children. This is because aligners must be removed and replaced regularly, which means that they require a certain level of maturity and responsibility. The aligners need to be worn for at least 22 hours a day in order for them to take effect. In addition, Invisalign is only recommended for moderate cases. If your child has severely misaligned teeth, traditional braces ultimately work better, more efficiently, and quicker. Lastly, Invisalign tends to be more costly compared to other orthodontic systems.

Invisalign is the perfect solution to straighten teeth, as they are virtually invisible and provide great results for many patients. Another great thing about Invisalign is that they dont come with the many food restrictions and maintenance, like traditional metal braces. Instead of brackets, wires, and rubber bands, Invisalign uses clear aligners that are custom-made to fit your teeth. Every two weeks or so, you will throw away the old aligners, and use a newer, straighter set that will help your teeth gradually move into straighter positions.

There is no such thing as being too old for braces or aligners. While age is certainly not a factor when it comes to braces or aligners, it certainly is when it comes to how discreet one wants to be about it. Because traditional braces are so obvious, many adults and teens would much rather go with Invisalign since the aligners are virtually invisible. Some teens and adults are self-conscious about the appearance of traditional braces, which is why Invisalign is the perfect alternative, as they are not noticeable and get the job done.

If you know anything about traditional braces, then you know that there are many different food restrictions that come with them. Traditional braces have a long list of food restrictions, such as food that is chewy, sticky, crunchy, or hard. With Invisalign, you wont have to give up your favorite foods, ever. Why? Because every time you eat or drink, you must take off the aligners first. But remember to always brush and floss before you put your aligners back on.

Invisalign for adults uses the most advanced technology to provide you with a stunning, healthy smile, without the appearance of traditional metal braces. The best part about Invisalign is that your lifestyle will not be interrupted, which means you will not have to feel self-conscious as the aligners are virtually invisible and you can still enjoy the activities and food you want. With Invisalign, you can achieve a healthy and beautiful smile at any age. At Rawle Orthodontics, our team is committed to helping our patients attain the smile they have always dreamed of.

There are a myriad of benefits that Invisalign has. There is the obvious, which is that they are virtually invisible and achieve amazing results just as traditional braces would. However, there are many other benefits of Invisalign for adults as well, including:

  • There are no food restrictions, which means you can continue eating the foods that you love. With traditional braces, there are many food restrictions, which means you cannot eat sticky, chewy, crunchy, or hard foods, as it can impact your wires, rubber bands, etc. With Invisalign, you simply have to remove the aligners before eating or drinking. But remember to floss and brush before putting your aligners back on once youre done.
  • With Invisalign, there are less office visits compared to traditional braces. This is because Invisalign does not require the same level of maintenance as traditional braces since the orthodontist doesnt need to adjust or tighten anything. Additionally, when you do have to go to the office, office visits are often less time because the orthodontist typically just checks your progress.
  • You will also easily be able to maintain your dental hygiene, as you will have to remove your aligners before flossing and brushing. With traditional braces, it is more difficult to floss and brush effectively.

My daughter had trouble with putting her elastics on the brackets because of where they were located and the orthodontist assistant was very patient with her and took her time.

I was referred to this office by my current dentist to get a completely new retainer after a very old one broke beyond fixing. The person who answered the phone was very rude and told me because I had had orthodontics done on my teeth before, their doctor would not see me and that this was common practice, so I should spend my afternoon calling every orthodontist in the area to see if they would make an exception (but Rawle Orthodontics would not). I explained that I hadn't seen an orthodontist in several years, had moved over 1000 miles away from that office, and therefore needed a new one, but they would not take me as a client for this reason. I was not asking for them to fix a broken retainer someone else had made, I was asking for a completely new one and would have been willing to follow whatever advice/procedure the doctor thought was best, even if it was not the original type of retainer that I had. I am very disappointed and already have an appointment with a new practice that thought this experience with Rawle Orthodontics was ridiculous.

I have been going to Rawle Orthodontics for about 3.5 years and have never experienced anything other than smiles, professionalism, kind and caring words. The entire staff and atmosphere at both locations are outstanding!! Dr. Rawle is an absolute gem and I am very pleased with outcome of my teeth. Although I can't stop smiling because I no longer have braces, I am going to miss seeing the faces of everyone there. Thank you Rawle Orthodontics.
