The additional training beyond dental school involves treating many patients with the 'best of the best' as teachers and professors. Dr. Rasmussen graduated Cum Laude with research distinction at the University of Florida, then moved on to Nova Southeastern College of Dental Medicine where he graduated at the top of his class and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree. Dr. Richard A. Rasmussen III is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology whose background and credentials reflect his commitment to the highest standards of patient care, treatment innovation, and leadership within his specialty.
A native of Tampa, Florida, Dr. Rasmussen graduated from Jesuit High School and went on to study at the University of Florida where he graduated Cum Laude with research distinction. Dr. Rasmussens achievements were recognized by the countrys best training programs, including the countrys number one rated dental school, the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Preferring to stay in his home state, Dr. Rasmussen declined acceptance to Harvard and attended Nova Southeastern College of Dental Medicine where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Dr. Rasmussen graduated at the top of his class and was honored with membership in the prestigious academic society of Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Dr. Rasmussen completed residency training in Periodontology at the University of Florida, Shands Hospital where he developed a special interest in implant reconstruction, periodontal plastic surgery and wisdom teeth surgery. During his chief year, he also received a Masters Degree in Dental Sciences as well as certification in Intravenous Conscious Sedation.
Dr. Rasmussen resides in South Tampa with his wife, Sarina, his daughter, Madison and his two dogs, Tanner and Teddy. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, working out and is an avid fan of the Florida Gators, Buccaneers and Lightning.
Dr. Rasmussen 's experience in complex reconstruction cases is unparalleled. As a specialist, Dr. Rasmussen is well known throughout the area as a team-oriented clinician. This place is amazing!! From the dentist to the office staff, I have had a great experience with everyone there. Getting implants can be pretty unnerving, but the team here puts your mind at ease. They are the absolute best!

The staff here are super friendly, put you at ease if nervous about a procedure, very knowledgeable, explain everything thoroughly and their pricing is fair. I had one dental implant done about 10 years ago and paid more than I am paying now for each one. The staff really make you feel comfortable and appreciated as a patient and genuinely care about you. The phone call from the doctor the night after surgery was appreciated and does not much they care. Highly recommend them. They even got a kick out of my costume for Halloween when I had to to in for a checkup. Tell them Mrs Doubtfire sent you!

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Rasmussen and his amazing team! I have neglected going to the dentist for years due to bad experiences in the past. I originally met Dr. Rasmussen when I had an emergency abscess tooth. I was referred to him by his wife (who is also an amazing dentist). Both of them got me right in on an emergency appointment on the same day. He was so gentle and kind and took such good care of me, I went back and discussed other dental work I needed done. He performed three procedures for me, all on the same day. I had a gum graft, implant preparation and a crown lengthening. All of the work healed nicely and I am amazed at how well the graft looks! My gum had receded heavily and I was extremely self conscious about my smile. Not only was it cosmetically unattractive, it was very important to fix to prevent bone loss. The recovery was painless and I am completely amazed and satisfied with the results! It's better than I expected and I smile confidently now! Dr. Rasmussen and his staff are kind and gentle people, yet professional and use state of the art technology. I highly recommend them to anyone who needs anything he specializes in. They also helped me secure financing for the surgeries, taking that pressure off me too. Best dental experience I've ever had anywhere in my lifetime!

Dr. Rasmussen's office goes above and beyond to make sure their patients are happy and comfortable. Dr. Rick is very good at what he does - he's super personable and my gum graft procedure was quick and painless. Plus he gives his patients his cell phone number and encourages post-op texts if you're worried. I texted him a few days after my procedure and I think he called me back 5 minutes later. But it's his staff who really make this place worth going to. I was always greeted with big, genuine smiles and friendly banter. His techs are very skilled and do their best to make everything as seamless as possible, from your first appointment to your last. And if, like me, your insurance company starts dragging their heels with reimbursement, they will literally get on the phone with you and them to make sure everything is clear so that you get your benefits! I can't recommend this office enough. No one wants a gum graft surgery, but if you need it, this is the place to go.

I highly recommend Rasmussen Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. My general dentist had referred me to Dr Rasmussen for reverse bone loss and implant procedures. The entire staff was very professional and friendly. I had an excellent experience. On my first visit Dr Rasmussen spent a lot of time with me explaining the procedures and his knowledge gave me the confidence to proceed. The procedures went very smoothly. Dr Rasmussen and his assistant explained each step throughout the process. The level of customer service was outstanding. Dr Rasmussen gave me his personal cell phone number and called to check on me after hours.

Dr "Ricky" Rasmussen III is the best dental surgeon in North America. No, i'm not just saying that. My wife Crystal and I have been performing our due diligence on implant surgeons for over three years. From Mexico to Canada and all points in between we searched and studied what questions to ask from the type of implants, etc. Dr. Ricky explained in detail our options. He guided us through the implant procedure we decided on. And everyday thereafter has been there for us. Dr. Ricky is all about your health and it shows. I would highly recommend Dr Ricky and in general dentistry Dr. Rebecca Benedict. The both care about us. Follow up: Great follow up today and everything is going well. Oh, I have lost 20lbs. I was 236 lbs now I'm 215 lbs. That's due to not eating fast food, chips, etc.. Because of the surgery I have been drinking smoothies with protein and peanut butter. Also I pick up muscle milk drinks. Only 109 calories. I feel and and have been told I look great. Can't wait to get my permanent teeth. I'm forward to February and getting my fitting for permanent teeth. Dr. Rasmussen III is the best in the world! Feb 2022 update: Note: warning:only go see Dr. Ricky at this location!! Do not go to the Ricky's dad for any dental work. After what Rickey's Dad did destroying his family by dating someone more than half his age. I'm afraid to even let my mid-twenties daughter go see his Dad. When we tried to move our dental files and everything to his son who works he. We were told emphatically "NO". I'm sorry, but ethically I'm not staying with the father and am enrolling as a new patient with the son who works here. I believe everyone else should too. Update: 2022 Dr. Rasmussen Jr. is not someone I want to do business with after I heard he is dating someone more than half his age and destroying a family to boot. His son Ricky the III left the practice and started his own in Wesley Chapel because of this. When I asked to move my information and appointments to the son. I was abruptly told I could not do that. Well, I'm sorry, I will find a way and I will. Ricky Jr. is pissing off clients. I would be afraid to send my mid twenties daughter there now if she needed dental work. Makes you question a lot more things now.

No need to fear the periodontist! For the past 15+ years, I had dreaded getting a much-needed gum graft. Finally accepting the inevitable, and trusting my general dentist's referral, I made a consultation appointment with Dr. Rasmussen. Concern for the individual patient was evidenced from my first contact with Dr. Rasmussen's staff. Leandre's bubbly personality and consummate professionalism came through over the phone putting me immediately at ease. Her calm approach further alleviated my fear as she explained the processes and procedures in common sense terms, making certain I understood what to expect from the surgery and recovery. The comfort I received from that first conversation continued throughout all my encounters with everyone on Dr. Rasmussen's staff, as well as the doctor himself. Walking into the office, Kyla's warm smile and gracious manner reassured me that everyone working in this office understands that for the patient dental surgery is an uncommon and potentially scary event. Concern for the physical and emotional comfort of the patient is evident. During the process of surgery, Dr. Rasmussen explains what he is doing and what the expected outcome will be. The concern for the individual is office wide. From Meya taking pictures in the initial consultation, to Bri who did the final evaluation, all questions and concerns were treated with respect and answered carefully, without any condescension or needless jargon. Dr. Rasmussen received the Tampa Magazine award of Periodontist of the Year 2021. The recipient of this award is selected by his peers demonstrating his professional as well as personal skills. My personal experience supports this accolade; with Dr. Rasmussen, there is no need to fear the process of periodontal surgery. I would recommend him to anyone in need of periodontal treatment or assistance.

I had a tooth and crown pulled, bone build up and gum grafted on to 3 tooth areas. I was nervous that recovering would be painful . It was not. Minimal to pain to more a discomfort. Nothing to have worried about. Dr Rasmussen and his staff are great!
