Every time I see one of my patients out in public smiling back at me, it makes me smile too. I chose to become an orthodontist because it is such a rewarding profession that allows me to improve peoples lives by transforming their smile. The best part about my job is getting to know the patients and their families throughout this process. I have the best patients around, and I love the connections that are made as I learn about my patients interests and life happenings.

I take great pride in my work, and it is very important to me that your end result is a beautiful smile that you have always wanted. Along with my entire staff, we are committed to giving you the highest quality of care and service every time you visit. We want you to enjoy your time as a patient here, so we have created an office atmosphere that is both relaxing and fun. We promise you will be in a good mood when you leave!

After working in the pharmaceutical industry for a few years, I decided that I needed to pursue a profession that was more hands-on and would allow me to have a more direct impact on peoples lives. I attended Marquette University School of Dentistry and graduated at the top of my class in 2006. I went on to specialize in orthodontics at the University of Iowa and received my certificate and masters degree in orthodontics in 2008.

One of the many reasons I love orthodontics is that it allows me to be a lifelong learner. I dedicate myself to staying on top of the most recent advances in orthodontics so I can provide the best and most innovative treatment to my patients. In addition to traditional braces, I am also a certified Invisalign and Invisalign Teen provider. Lastly, I am a Board Certified Orthodontist. A board certified orthodontist has successfully completed a voluntary, rigorous written and clinical examination process through The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). ABO certification is recognized throughout the world as representing the highest level of commitment to orthodontic patient care.

I am proud to make my home in Pewaukee. My family and I love Pewaukees vibrant character and its beautiful lakeside setting, but most of all we chose to live and work here because of the wonderful people that make up the community.

I have been married to my wife Ellen since 2002, and we have two wonderful children, Eden and Wesley. We enjoy traveling as a family and being involved in our childrens long list of activities. In my free time, you will find me outdoors! I love downhill skiing, working on landscaping projects, and going on bike rides.

Are all orthodontists Board Certified? No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, however board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), an individual orthodontist is thoroughly tested by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment. The most fair, reliable and valid testing methodology is utilized to test clinical proficiency in an objective manner. The ABO certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics.

How many certifying boards are recognized by the American Dental Association in the specialty of orthodontics? One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Why would an orthodontist choose to complete this voluntary certification process? Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists personal commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

What steps are required to complete the ABO certification process? Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of orthodontics and dental facial orthopedics which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board examination allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Scenario-based Oral Clinical Examination where they are objectively evaluated on their knowledge, abilities and critical thinking skills based on proficiency and clinical excellence in four core performance areas/domains. Both examinations take significant preparation and time. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a limited time period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.
