Dr. Shahrzad Prater received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. She obtained her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She completed her post-doctoral residency training also at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she was awarded a degree in Advanced Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthodpedics. This intensive post-graduate training exposed Dr. Prater to many different bracket systems, such as self-ligating vs. traditional, Invisalign clear aligners and ceramic brackets, and early treatment modalities to predict and modify jaw discrepancies. Dr. Prater understands that a crooked smile is more than just crooked teeth and may be due to jaw asymmetries or discrepancies.
Dr. Prater understands the multi-disciplinary approach to overall dental health and a beautiful smile. She participates in several multidisciplinary study groups in San Diego. Dr. Prater continues to work with teams of the finest general dentists and specialists in an effort to create and implement comprehensive dental treatment plans for complex adult cases.
Dr. Prater completed her research in cone bean computerized tomography in predicting canine root resorption. As a completely paperless office and all digital X-rays, Dr. Prater is on the cutting edge of orthodontics.
Dr. Praters free time is spent with her family. Her son keeps her very busy, not to mention their two dogs. Dr Prater believes being a parent provides her the compassion to understand and help parents and patients accomplish the smiles they deserve.
Dr. Alfredo de Alba a wonderful, well-respected orthodontic specialist with more than 40 years of experience in teaching and clinical practice. We have hand selected him to be a part of our team due to his excellent clinical skills and personable chairside manner.
Dr. de Alba became a specialist in orthodontics in 1975 from UCLA. Since the beginning of his career, he continued to teach at UCLA and became an Associate Professor with tenure. He has won many awards in academia, as well as the highly coveted Best Instructor Award awarded from UCLA School of Dentistry Student Body. He is a past president of the UCLA Orthodontic Alumni Association from where he has retired. Since 1984, Dr. de Alba has had two successful private practices in Chula Vista and Coronado.
To stay at the forefront of advancements in orthodontics, Dr. DeAlba continually updates his education through courses and seminars on the newest advancements in orthodontics, as well as by staying active in many professional organizations.
While he has a strong focus on clinical excellence, Dr. DeAlba greatly enjoys helping both children and adults have a positive and fun orthodontic experience. He finds it very rewarding to enhance his patients lives with a beautiful smile!
