Metal crowns can be made from various alloys, including gold, platinum, cobalt-chromium and nickel-chromium. These crowns are strong and last the longest of all materials. They rarely break, but their color and the high price of some of the metals, like gold, can cause people to seek another option.

Stainless steel crowns are often used temporarily while a permanent crown is being made. Theyre also used for children to reduce the number of visits needed to care for a primary tooth that has been treated for decay until the tooth naturally falls out and the adult tooth takes its place.

For visible teeth, porcelain fused to metal can create a crown that matches your tooth color. These are a great option if the crowns are being fitted to a long bridge where structural strength is important. However, porcelain crowns chip easily and can cause some wear to their opposing teeth.

Dental crownscan restore previously broken or worn-down teeth or protect weak teeth from decay, breakage, or chips. When the exterior of a tooth is worn away, a crown can cover the filling of the existing tooth and prevent it from being damaged. Crowns are also attached to dental implants to take the place of a missing tooth and are used as a cosmetic modification to improve a persons appearance.

At your first visit to get a crown, you will get X-rays to check the roots of the tooth and assess the surrounding bone. If there is excessive damage due to decay or if there appears to be an infection or risk of injury to the tooths pulp, the dentist may recommend a root canal first.

The tooth will need to be shaped to receive the crown, so you will be anesthetized (numbed) while your dentist does this. If a significant portion of the tooth is missing, the dentist will build up and shape the tooth so the crown can fit well on it.

At your second visit, after removing the temporary crown, your dentist will check the fit and color of the permanent crown. You will be anesthetized again, and the temporary crown will be removed and replaced with the permanent crown.

A dental crown is not a guarantee for full protection of your tooth, so you still need to care for it as though it were another tooth. This means practicing good oral hygiene brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash once a day.

I have been in contact with Racine Dentals oral surgery department for a month, and no steps were taken to try to help set a consult up for my 3 impacted wisdom teeth. The right side of my face is causing a great deal of pain and no one seemed to care. I did the majority of the calling and emailing when it came to sending over info, trying to schedule an appointment, or find someone that would even help take a step and go further. Ive emailed every email that the site mentions and have left multiple voicemails each week. I've heard great things about the general dentistry and know a couple of people that like it there, but when it comes to oral surgery it is very, very hard to get in. Might take a month or more.

All the staff is so nice. They make you feel very comfortable. My 4 yr old daughter had to have a procedure done & Dr. Travis was so wonderful during the whole thing. My daughter was obviously scared but he sang to her & made her feel very comfortable. He didn't mind one but she was crying. I highly recommend this dental group!

I can't believe no one was wearing masks. I don't trust any "healthcare" facility that doesn't try to mitigate the spread of deadly disease.

I love this Dentist Office! I moved to Racine about a year ago and tried another dentist in town with an awful experience. RDG is so caring and walk you through every step. When I got my first cleaning they showed me everything they were doing and were so educational! They use some really neat technology and showed me each piece as we went. Today I had to get a crown put on and I am terrified of needles. When I say Dr. Nowman was not only an amazing human being with me, but gentle and let me work through all my emotions, it doesn't do the experience justice. If your looking for a new dentist please go to Racine Dental Group, you will not be disappointed!!!

First visit to Dr. Burghuis. I have avoided the dentist for years due to extensive dental work in the past and anxiety but not anymore. Dr. Burghuis was welcoming, reassuring and answered questions fully. I feel very confident with the plan she developed to restore my oral health. Moira, hygienist, was gentle, patient and took great care in providing comfortable treatment. The receptionist who signed me in and gathered my information was very friendly. The staff member who helped with pre-auth was very knowledgeable and explained next steps in process very thoroughly. Very happy with experience today!

Dr. Waldau and his staff provide excellent care. You can always tell that everyone genuinely enjoys working together and wants to be there! XRays have always been my least favorite part of dentist appointments in the past but they make it quick, easy and painless. My questions and concerns have always been met with a great deal of care and knowledge. I would HIGHLY recommend! :)

I have been so nervous to see a dentist for many years. Seeing Dr sterner and her assistant Lisa has been the best experience I have ever had the whole procedure and process has been pain free and seamless. I actually look forward to coming in next time and I'm so grateful.

Nice people When your there but with follow up my appointment was canceled and I tried to reschedule and they didn't answer or get back to me for months. By that point I received several bill collecting calls for a bill that was high for a cleaning with insurance at a place that supposedly was covered. Got an email today( the first email and like 3rd call threatening to take me to a collection agency) ugh. Also call me old fashioned but I am used to my dentist being at the majority of the appointment but maybe that's a thing of the past. I will look around for a dentist that keeps appointments and follows through and doesn't threaten me for a shady bill

Mostly great staff and dentists. All I can add is that if you're sitting in the chair waiting 30 minutes or more for dentist, get up and find someone who cares & knows what to do. This happened to me TWICE in a week. The first time I was in agonizing pain...a nightmare.

Thank goodness for Racine Dental Group and Dr. Kemper! I had a dental emergency on my front tooth (of all places) and his receptionist Jenna fit me in to see Dr Kemper right away and they were able to find a solution and accommodate me that day and I was able to go on a business trip. I highly highly recommend Dr Kemper and his office.

I used to like this place b/c Dr. Elcano is amazing but trying to get in for a sedated procedure is like pulling teeth (no pun intended). Had to wait forever just to get in for a consult (even had to resort to getting a friend that works there to get things moving for me to even get the consult set up). I get to the consult, told I will be called within a week to schedule the procedure...that was 3.5 weeks ago and, no surprise, no one called me. I really like my general dentist but the sedation procedures team is just... no.

The dentists themselves are good. My biggest complaint is on scheduling. They are scheduling 5-6 months out for kids. If you're supposed to be getting cleanings twice a year it's difficult -impossible with how booked they are. I have my kids getting one cleaning this month and can't book their next one ( now booking almost into October) Until they get their first ones done? By then they will be well into November or December. I also had one of my children with a cracked tooth. They scheduled her next appointment weeks after looking at it because they were booked and literally half of the tooth was cracked off. Very frustrating.

I am someone who has had horrendous dental experiences which has caused me to have a lot of anxiety as an adult with dental procedures. Dr. Sterner not only did an absolute PERFECT job with my broken front tooth making it look better than it did originally, but she did it all with compassion. She explained every step to me and was patient with my hesitations. All of the dental hygienists, techs, and other staff working with Dr. Sterner are fabulous as well. Lisa sat with me for a majority of my appointment talking me through everything and supporting me.
