Dr. Oates decided to become a dentist in the second grade and never looked back. She obtained her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Georgia and graduated with her DDS (doctorate of dental surgery) from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Oates worked for a year at a pediatric clinic in Chicago and for several years in private practice in both Franklin and Columbia, TN. Her varied background allows Dr. Oates the ability to give you the most effective treatment possible.
Dr. Oates volunteers her time in the community to help those who are less fortunate. She participates regularly in Interfaith Dental Clinic and also donates her time with Loaves and Fishes, an outreach program that feeds the homeless.
Dr. Oates is married to a Navy veteran, and they have two beautiful girls, Olivia and Annie and her beautiful boy Teddy. In her spare time, Dr. Oates loves to bake, spend time at the family beach house in Oak Island, NC, and hike with her family. They are avid college football fans.
Dr. Waits received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Science from Florida State University and was awarded her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine. She was born in Greensboro, NC but grew up in beautiful Destin, FL. She and her husband fell in love with Nashville while her husband attended Vanderbilt University for graduate school in 2011 and love being a part of this community.
Dr. Waits is committed to establishing trust with each patient by listening carefully to their individual needs so she can deliver the highest quality of care in a compassionate, painless environment. She is constantly looking to expand her skills and is a member of a number of dental organizations to further this goal, including Spear Study Club, Southern Womens Dental Study Club, and the Nashville Dental Society.
Dr. Waits is married to an Auburn/Vandy graduate. She has a son, Crew and a little girl on the way due in April! In her free time, she enjoys fitness, spending time at the lake, walking outside with their dog Tucker, being active in her church, and serving the underserved in our area through volunteering at the Interfaith Dental Clinic.
Dr. Lilly received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loyola University in Chicago, IL and graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, followed by completion of a one year Advanced General Dentistry Residency program.
Dr. Lilly subsequently served in the United States Air Force at Eglin AFB in Ft Walton Beach, FL for three years. She then became an associate dentist in a large group practice in Tallahassee, FL. Eventually, she and her husband relocated to Franklin to raise their two children, Katrina and Adam, and to be closer to family.
Dr. Evan Cox was born and raised in Campbellsville, Kentucky. As a son of a dentist, he gained an early appreciation for the positive impact his father could have on the lives of his patients and throughout the community. As a result, that example led him to pursue a career in dentistry. After high school, Dr. Cox attended the University of Kentucky, where he received his degree in Business Management and Administration. He was then accepted to the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree and graduated with the highest distinction. After that, he continued his education and completed his specialty training at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where he received his Master of Science in Dentistry (MS) and Certificate in Orthodontics.
Outside the office, Dr. Cox enjoys working out and staying active. He loves doing anything outdoors, especially golfing. He also loves watching and playing sports, traveling, and taking every opportunity to spend time with family and friends.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU NEED AN ABUTMENT AND CROWN FOR AN ANTERIOR (FRONT) IMPLANT!!!! THEY USE METAL ABUTMENTS THAT WILL SHOW THROUGH ONCE THE CROWN IS PUT ON. MY FAMILY FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY. WE WERE NOT TOLD!! EVERY OFFICE THAT KNOWS IMPLANTS KNOWS TO USE SHADED ZIRCONIA (LIKE WHAT THEY USE ON CROWNS) SO THAT THE METAL DOESNT SHOW THROUGH OR DISCOLOR THE CROWN. IMPLANTS/ABUTMENTS/CROWNS ARE EXPENSIVE ENOUGH. BEWARE!! (side note) if this office doesn't want to pay for a small upcharge from their lab for the CORRECT type of abutment, ask the patient to pay the difference! ***edit to response from the office: I am not a patient with you. My family member is... or WAS.

I was visiting from out of town and had a horrible toothache. After calling a few places Dr. Oates office got me in for an appointment almost immediately. They were all so compassionate, professional and took excellent care of me without charging a fortune! Their office has all the modern equipment and was spotless and every person there greeted me with a smile. I might have to fly here from NY for future dental work!

When moving to the area, locating a new dental home was difficult. I tried several but none quite matched my hometown dentist. After leaving my first visit with Dr.Oates, I was apprehensive about numerous ex-rays and discussion of problems. Now, I believe, we have a mutual understanding that I'm less anxious if I just know and concentrate on one problem at a time. Dr. Oates is very compassionate, knowledgeable and sincere about her role as a dentist. I feel as though she treats me as she might treat her mother (I am older). She tries to evaluate and solve the problem with the least amount of drama and I appreciate that! Also, she won't hesitate to refer you to a specialist if the need arises. My family has been patients of Dr. Oates and company for the last few years. We've always had great experiences with the whole staff, including Dr. Oates. Yesterday, my 12yo (who has had traumatic dental work in the past and has severe medical anxiety) had an appointment for tooth extractions and was very nervous and scared. Dr. Oates went above and beyond to explain the process, why it was needed, give him honest answers to his 100 questions and walked him through the whole procedure. She took her time and didn't make us feel like we were slowing her up- making sure that my son was comfortable the whole time. She was absolutely fantastic and my son did great thanks to her. I already recommend her practice to friends, and will definitely continue to do so in the future! Thanks Dr. Oates!

BEST EXPERIENCE EVER at "any" medical office not just a dental practice! The entire staff from Ashley on the phone setting up my 1st appt, to Lauren & Chelsea in the office & Brandy were so nice & friendly and I was impressed with the knowledgeable technicians and Dentist. Dr. Rachel Oates is amazing. Dr. Lily worked on me with Haley & they're real pros. After my dentist retired I needed a new one & thought I'd never feel at home at another practice. Today was my first visit for a consult & I needed some work done, but they not only got me in earlier than expected, someone cancelled & I got my work done today. To say I was delighted with the entire experience, is an understatement, even though my mouth is still numb, ha! ;). My wife came in and scheduled her 1st appt. Today too, after I raved about them. Please keep doing what you're doing, and if anyone is looking for a great family practice in Middle TN, I'd highly recommend you visit. You will NOT be disappointed.

The literal best dentist around. Dr Oates and her staff are amazing to their patients. I have spent a lot of time their getting my teeth cleaned and repaired and they have always went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and well taken care of!

I have been to many dentists over the years and I feel very comfortable with Dr. Oates! She is so kind, knowledgeable and confident. The office is very clean and high tech. All of the hygienists, office staff and techs are very knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend for adults and children.

This dental office cares about their patients. I came to them looking for a second opinion and they were kind, gentle, and thorough. When I've had billing questions they have taken time to explain everything. My favorite thing about this office is they are on time! Every time I've been there they have called me back at my scheduled appointment time. The best!

If you're looking for a new dentist Dr. Oates is the one! She is so personable and every single person in the office is SO NICE always have smiles on their faces. I love the TVs in the ceiling and always have a comfortable visit. Dr. Oates makes sure you're doing okay during any procedure and always so honest!

We love Rachel Oates Family Dental. Best dentist our family has had. My 6-yr-old gets so excited to go because the technicians are so sweet and friendly. I also love that they will work with you in the timing of major work like crowns and such. They also go out of the way to make sure you are comfortable with the procedures.

Extremely sneaky, dishonest, and ill-informed. I called three months ago and my first question posed was, "Do you take Cigna?" To which I was told yes. I came in and did my exam, a plethora of X-rays and built a plan that included oral surgery, endodontics and more. I then went to their preferred specialists for all of my work and needed to now loop back with them for my Crown on 5/13. When I got there I was told to pay $2244. Which seemed insane. They told me they did not know why Cigna wasn't covering anything, that there had been a recent consult denial and proceeded to go on Cigna's website to see what the issue was. Told me I maxed my Cigna policy (which I knew I had not). I was there for AN HOUR sitting with billing trying to find the issue. Welp, today I called Cigna and found out that they are not in network with Cigna. Which may have been nice if this was mentioned at any time. I called to confirm and the girl ACTUALLY LAUGHED and told me that when they say, "They take Cigna" it is correct because they can file with them - but they're not in network. I have never seen such an underhanded way to overcharge in my life. I am sick at how devious this was and I work in advertising, that is a breach of FTC to say you take something that you do not. Their customer service laughing?????? Really? I am a former director at both Amazon and Chewy, two of the greatest CS companies in the country. This was deplorable.

I trust Dr. Rachel Oates and her friendly team of professionals wholeheartedly! Dr. Oates and I have spent a lot of time together within the past 6 months on my dental implant and crown, which didn't exactly go according to plan. Dr. Oates never seemed frustrated and was determined to make it right. This allowed us to get to a solution we were both beyond happy with. From my experience, I can tell they are 100% committed to their patients in everything they do. I would recommend the Dr. Oates family over and over again!
