Dr. Joy Troxel completed her undergraduate studies on a full academic scholarship to Indiana University graduating at the top of her class with Bachelor of Science Degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. She continued her graduate education at Indiana University earning her Master of Science Degree in Biology. Dr. Joy was awarded her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at the Indiana University School of Dentistry with highest distinction. Dr. Joy was accepted to Harvard University School of Dental Medicines Public Health Residency and Master of Public Health Programs. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Society of American Indian Dentists, American Association of Women Dentists, Colorado Dental Association, and the Western Colorado Dental Society. Dr. Joy practiced dentistry for several years in Indiana before moving to Colorado with her husband, Alex. In her free time she enjoys all things outdoors; ultramarathon trail running, nordic skiing, and camping with her dog, Olive.

It has been my greatest pleasure to serve you and your families dental needs over the past 20 years. I want to thank you for your continued support and loyalty. I also wanted to inform you of some exciting changes at our office. I have decided to bring my clinical career to an end and pass along Rabbit Ears Dental to another exciting and promising dentist.
I would like to introduce Dr. Joy Troxel. She is a previous resident of Indiana, where she did all of her undergraduate and professional training. She and her husband moved to Fort Collins in 2017 and relocated to Steamboat in 2019. They saw what we all seea beautiful community with wonderful people and stunning resources. Dr. Joy has decided to invest her life in Routt County, in Rabbit Ears Dental, and in Youour wonderful patients.
Dr. Joy has been a practicing dentist for over 5 years, and I have seen both the quality of her work and the kindness with which she treats her patients. I feel truly fortunate to have her on the Rabbit Ears Dental team and in our community!

Dr. Joy has been well a joy to work with! The staff at Rabbit Ears dental are professional and kind. I have had some major dental work done and my teeth haven't been exactly happy about it, however Joy was very fluid with the situation as well as understanding and compassionate. While my teeth need some more work done I will keep coming back because of their outstanding service. They are committed to helping people keep their oral health in the best shape without any judgment. (And let's be honest, that is the hardest part about going back to a dentist). Thank you Dr. Joy and your entire team! Me and my teeth thank you!

Dr. Joy is wonderful, she took the time to sit down and explain everything that was going on in my mouth and give me treatment plans options to allow me to make an informed decision. The only reason I give them 3 stars is that the cleaning experience was the worst I've ever had. Maybe I've just been lucky with great hygienists in the past, but I feel like this experience made me understand why people hate going to the dentist. I hope the hygienist was just having an off day, so I'll try going back again (mostly because I really liked Dr. Joy), but it was really painful, and there was no reaction to my constant wincing.

I have hated going to the dentist for over a decade. Then Dr. Joy took over Rabbit Ears. Under her care, I have had a number of rotten filling replaced and received cleaning every 3 months due to a deep root scaling years ago. Today, I was told my gums and teeth look much better than in the past year. Dr. Joy and her staff have done such impeccable work and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed that I am now making the effort on my own to keep my teeth and gums healthy. Thank you for all your help and support.

The new location is beautiful and state of the art. All the hygienists are gentle and thorough. Dr Joy is also very gentle and straight forward. You can tell her passion for dentistry and providing her expertise. Highly recommended based on all my experiences the past 5+ years.
