Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. Gum disease has two primary stages. If diagnosed and treated in the first stage, the condition can be reversed and tooth loss can usually be prevented. In order to prevent gum disease,practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist for cleanings and check-ups twice a year.
This stage only affects the soft tissue of the gums, and the patient may not experience any discomfort. Although the symptoms may be very mild, it is important to diagnose gum disease in this early stage before it progresses to periodontitis.
Periodontitis is the name for more advanced periodontal disease and if permitted to progress to this point, not only the gums are affected but the bone structures supporting the teeth will be compromised.
A build-up of bacteria causes Gingivitis. In its early stages, inflammation around the gums is observable, with gum tissues appearing red and swollen. Gums that are easily irritated or that bleed during tooth brushing indicate the presence of Gingivitis. Removal of the plaque buildup is necessary to prevent the development of gum disease.
As the gums become more inflamed, they start to pull away from the teeth, forming spaces known as periodontal pockets. Food, bacteria, and plaque begin to collect in the pockets, leading to infection. The surrounding bone becomes damaged both by bacterial toxins and by the immune systemsresponse to infection.
Dr. Williams, a native Texan, has now practiced dentistry for well over three decades. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas Wesleyan University in 1980 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the School of Dentistry at theUniversity of Texas Health Science Center at Houstonin 1985.
And the rest is history. Not only does he run his own private practice, Dr. Williams is also a member of the teaching faculty at the Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry. In addition, he is an active member of the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association.
Over the years, he has played a large role in shaping the face of dentistry in the North Richland Hills area and Texas as a whole. He is a member of the Honorable Order of the Good Fellow in the Texas Dental Association for his many years of service to the organization.
Dr. Williams says his favorite part of dentistry is having the opportunity to build long-standing relationships with patients while improving their quality of life. He loves giving his patients the personal touch, even calling to check on them the night following their treatment!
In his free time, he enjoys training for his annual birthday triathlon, being active in his church, and spending time with his wife, Patty, and their grandchildren. He also enjoys reading and traveling, and he has had the opportunity to perform mission dentistry in many parts of the world.
Dr. Williams and his staff believe in supporting the community around them and have given much back to the North Richland Hills community. In past years, we have volunteered to host a free dental day in our office on the Friday before Thanksgiving. This service is an expression of compassion to our community, and we plan to continue this tradition in the future.
Our dentist office is also active in the American Dental Associations Give Kids A Smile program and the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation, which provides charitable dental care to the underprivileged.

I highly recommend Dr. Williams office. I felt very comfortable due to the hospitality and professionalism of each staff member. I was told I was in good hands and it was true indeed. I really want to mention the lack of pain and discomfort I experienced after four extractions in one sitting. Dr Williams is truly a treasure.

I've been a patient at this practice my entire life, so I'm right at home here. The environment is as comfortable as can be for a dental office. Dr. Williams and his staff have always been excellent and I'm thankful that my dental health has been in such good hands all these years.

Asked to have Temp. Dentures done, because mine broke. Was told they could make one by the front Clerk. Have to go through an x-ray and exam first. Cost $229. I said cool. After the exam and x-ray i was told they do not do temp. Dentures. And to get something that works so i can smile at all. Will take 3 to 4 visits and $4,000. Liked the people, very nice. Did not like being played like a fool.

We absolutely love this dentistry. We've moved cross country twice now, and multiple cities in each state. Needless to say we've had our fair share of experience with practices. Dr. Renan's office is by far the best!! Super personable, friendly, and caring. Coming here we don't feel like a patient, but friends. Not to mention the care is top notch! The hygienists are diligent but not overly rough. Dr Renan is hilarious and very thorough. And the lady up front is the sweetest! She always makes us feel like family. Truly recommend!

This has, by far, been the most positive experience I have ever had with a dentist. I came in thinking I had broken a tooth, scared and ashamed because I had not seen a dentist in about ten years. Not a single time did anyone shame me. Each time I came in, I was greeted like a family member. The procedures I had done were as painless as they could have been under the circumstances and when I was scared or my anxiety flared up, everyone was so kind, patient and accommodating. I genuinely cannot recommend these people enough.
