Richard G. Rosenbloom, DMD earned his undergraduate degree from Binghamton University, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honors organization. He then pursued his dental education at the University of Connecticut where he earned his D.M.D. and graduated with honors, near the top of his class.

Locally, Dr. Rosenbloom has served for many years on the Executive Board of the Dutchess County Dental Society and is currently the Treasurer, and former Editor of their monthly Bulletin. Dr. Rosenbloom is honored to have been nominated by his peers as Best Of The Hudson Valley by Hudson Valley magazine every year since the poll was initiated in 2008.

Dr. Rosenbloom is married and he and his wife, Louise, are the parents of six children. His interests include skiing, cycling, golf, and hiking- the local availability and proximity of all of these activities makes the beautiful Hudson Valley such a great place to live (and work)! If asked, he will also enthusiastically discuss baseball and football (including fantasy football) especially regarding his two favorite professional sports teams- the New York Yankees and the Miami Dolphins.

Barbara has been an Office Administrator with R & R Orthodontics since 1994. She is married and has three children, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and two grandsons, Jeffrey and Jack. On her days off, she can be found delivering meals to the home-bound. She also feels blessed to work with the Glens Falls Medical Mission to serve the people of Guatemala.

Brenda has been with R & R Orthodontics since 2003. She proudly serves as an office administrator alongside Dr. Roenbloom. Brenda is married to retired Police Sergeant, Mike, for over 25 years and they share a love of traveling in their motor home. She has two children. Bri, who has followed in her footsteps and enjoys a career in the dental field. And Jake, proudly serving our country in the US Navy, currently stationed in Sasebo, Japan. Whenever she can, Brenda enjoys a good book, a nice Chardonnay, spending time with her friends and family as well as charitably serving her community.

Louise has been an orthodontic assistant for over 25 years and also serves as the office treatment coordinator for new patients. She is NY state licensed and attends continuing education classes regularly so that she can provide the best care for her patients. She says she loves her job and cannot imagine doing anything else!

Amanda has been working in the orthodontic field for more than 10 years. She has tried other fields in dentistry, but seeing peoples smiles transform has made her love and stick with orthodontics. She has 2 children at home- Layla and Jason- who she enjoys spending time with as well as her nieces and nephews who are a big part of all of their lives.

An orthodontist is a dental specialist, who after graduating from dental school, completes additional full-time university-based education in an accredited orthodontic residency program supervised by orthodontic experts. Specialty training requires 2-3 additional academic years and admission is extremely competitive. Mastering the physics of tooth movement and understanding the biology of facial development and guidance, orthodontists are the specifically educated experts in dentistry to straighten teeth and align jaws.

Orthodontists limit their practices to orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics. This means that orthodontic treatment is what they do, and all they do. Selecting an orthodontist who is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) is your assurance that you have chosen an orthodontist: the dental specialist with at least 2-3 years of advanced speciality education in orthodontics in a university-based program accredited by the American Dental Association.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children should have an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. An experienced orthodontist can clearly see by age seven whether developmental issues can turn into problems. Early detection of common orthodontic problems such as crowding, premature loss of baby teeth, cross bites, or many other unfavorable developmental issues can lead to the implementation of the most appropriate treatment, that can result in a shorter course of therapy, and is less painful for the patient.

Frequently, no early intervention will be necessary, except careful monitoring of your childs dental development. This will give you peace of mind when it is not clear to you whether an issue you see is really a problem or just a stage of development that doesnt require intervention.

Although orthodontic treatment is possible at any age, there is an ideal time when the most conservative techniques will produce the best results. And, the orthodontist is specifically trained to determine this ideal time. Skeletal (jaw size) discrepancy treatment must be initiated while there is enough growth remaining, otherwise, compromises and compensations will be needed. Crowding is often the result of narrow jaws and early orthopaedic expansion can create more room for tooth alignment and a broader smile. Expansion has to be started at the right time and will not be successful if initiated too late. This is why early evaluation is advised.

Orthodontics is a long-term commitment with a possibility of 2 to 2 years of active treatment and 1 to 2 years of retention follow-up. Orthodontic associates in a general dentistry practice may change their location before your orthodontic treatment is completed. This may result in an increase in treatment time, an undesirable orthodontic result, and/or the need to find another orthodontist to finish treatment. Dont think that now that you have braces you dont need to worry about flossing or brushing. Regular brushing and flossing is required more than ever before. Your efforts in keeping your mouth clean will ensure the health of your mouth and gums. You dont want your time and investment to go wasted simply because you were too lazy to clean your teeth. If you are unable to keep your gums and teeth clean, you may need to visit a dentist more often than usual to get your teeth professionally cleaned.

What can you eat? Lets talk about what you shouldnt eat! For the first day or so, stick to soft foods. Avoid tough meats, hard breads, and raw vegetables. Before long, youll be able to bite a cucumber again. But youll need to protect your orthodontic appliances when you eat for as long as youre wearing braces.

When you get your braces on, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and teeth may be tender to biting pressures for 3 5 days. Take Tylenol or whatever you normally take for headache or discomfort. The lips, cheeks and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become accustomed to the braces. We will supply wax to put on the braces in irritated areas to lessen discomfort.

To successfully complete orthodontic treatment, the patient must work together with the orthodontist. The teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears the rubber bands or other appliances as prescribed. Lack of cooperation following instructions and damaged appliances lengthen the treatment time so, please follow instructions.

In order to achieve the perfect smile with a flawless alignment of the teeth and jaws, a patient needs to follow the treatment plan with consistency.Follow the plan, care for your appliances, and ask us if you have questions!

This includes wearing the prescribed appliances such as head gear and rubber bands recommended by us. The more inconsistent a patient is during the treatment, the more time treatment can take. Therefore, to minimize the treatment duration wear the prescribed appliances as directed.
