No I cannot say I always knew I wanted to be a dentist! In high school I started to realize I wanted to work in the medical field. I initially wanted to be a Physical Therapist, then a Pharmacist before deciding dentistry was my true calling.
Dentistry speaking I enjoy working with my hands. I like the immediate benefit that I can provide for someone when they are in pain. I also like the wide variety of treatments that I can provide for people.
Personally I like exercising, golf, and traveling with my family. I enjoy watching the Cornhuskers play football on Saturdays in the fall as well as watching Creighton Bluejay Basketball in the winter.
Im most passionate about providing exceptional care to my patients but even more so developing and maintaining life long relationships with them. I am an enthusiastic learner and strive to become a better dentist everyday so that I can provide better care for my patients needs.
My family. One of my favorite things to do is attend and support them in their activities. I love watching them play soccer, baseball, basketball, football and dance. We love to travel and I enjoy that they can spend time with their grandparents.
I am truly blessed to be dentist so, any opportunity that I can, I try to provide assistance to people in need. We hold an annual event, Dentistry From The Heart, in which we provide free dental care to the people of Omaha. This is very gratifying there are a lot for people that do not have regular dental care and they are very appreciative of our help. We also enjoy cooking meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
I think I always had the idea that dentistry might be the path for me. I had an absolutely fantastic and kind dentist when I was young, so I always saw dentistry as something very fun so much so, that I was gifted a dentist barbie for Christmas around age 5. As I grew older, I started to gain a stronger interest in science and knew I wanted to do something in healthcare, but it wasnt until high school when I really started to cultivate my interest in dentistry specifically. I had the opportunity through a program at my school to shadow a pediatric dentist every day after school for about three months, and my time spent with her really solidified my passion for the field. I think its a perfect combination of science, art, and interpersonal relationships exactly what I was looking for!
My mom and dad. They have been there for me every step of the way and have helped me get to where I am today. They are two of the hardest working people I know and have taught me that its okay to fall down, as long you get back up and keep working! They are also incredibly selfless and have always encouraged us to lend our time, talents, and compassion to everyone around us.
One of my favorite things is exploring new places with people I love. Anytime I can see a new part of the country or get out in nature to see something new with friends and family I am in heaven. I also really enjoy baking, concerts, and catching a Creighton basketball game. Im originally from Minnesota, so you can also find me cheering on the Golden Gopher hockey and football teams (sorry to disappoint all you Husker fans!)
I am passionate about fostering meaningful relationships with my patients and providing excellent care. I strive to be a life long learner and to continue to expand my skills and knowledge to become a better dentist and community leader.
I would say my friends and family. My parents and three younger brothers live in Minnesota so anytime we can actually all get together is something I really cherish since it doesnt happen too often anymore. Being so far away from them has in some ways been a blessing in disguise because it has allowed me to form extremely close and meaningful relationships with friends here in Omaha they are like my extra family members!
One that I really love is First Book. Their mission is to make books and other educational resources more readily available to all children so that the opportunity to receive a high-quality education is equal, regardless of geographic location or socioeconomic status. I also love any time I can use my knowledge in dentistry as a way to serve others. One of my favorite memories from dental school is serving on a five-week mission trip to the Dominican Republic with the ILAC program at Creighton. My goal is to one day make that trip again (or several times!) as a professional.
I did not know I always wanted to be a dentist. I always thought I wanted to be a physician. Dr. Trumm was actually my dentist and while I was in college he encouraged me to look into dentistry. I shadowed him and learned more and went for it!
I am most passionate about mastering my skills as a dentist. I also love being a business owner. Its very motivating to be in a position to shape the environment and culture our team members and patients experience every day.
Personally I am very passionate about improving as a person. Some of the areas I focus on are my relationships, health, fitness, leadership, and interpersonal skills. I love to golf (golf doesnt love me), fishing, working, and spending time with family.
I dont have a specific charity but the times I have been able to do charity dentistry (whether an event for helping out a patient of mine) really makes me appreciate the value of what we can do as a dental office.
