Nitrous Oxide Nitrous oxide and oxygen are mixed together and inhaled through a small mask worn over the nose to aid in relaxation. This helps in the reduction of anxiety and suppresses the gag reflex. Note that this procedure may provide insufficient anxiety reduction for some patients.

Local Anesthesia Medication is administered topically or by injection. This helps by makingit more comfortable during dental procedures. Local anesthesia may cause pain, swelling, tingling, pressure or damage to the nerve.

Dental Exams A pediatric exam includes a review of the childs medical history, diet, homecare, and chief complaints, followed by a digital clinical extraoral and intraoral evaluation. The purpose of the exam is to obtain a diagnosis and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Dental RecordsRecords include intraoral and extraoral digital images, digital impressions of the top and bottom teeth, and bite registration. The purpose of obtaining records is to ensure an accurate diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan.

Dental ImagesTo detect potential disease in its early stages, intraoral and extraoral pictures are taken periodically, using radiation. The images allow the dentist to see inside and between teeth. In the absence of digital images, disease may otherwise go undetected until more obvious signs and symptoms develop. Digital x-ray equipment is used to reduce the size of the beam, and to eliminate scatter radiation, and lead-free, nontoxic, biodegradable barium aprons are used for additional protection.

Prophylaxis/Cleaning Prophylaxis, also referred to as a cleaning, involves cleaning and polishing surfaces of the tooth with hand instruments, floss, electric rotary instrument or sonic scaling. Cleanings help to remove plaque, bacteria, stains and tartar from teeth.

Topical Fluoride Varnish Fluoride varnish is a topical agent used to destroy bacteria. It adheres to the tooth surface and absorbs into the enamel structure to strengthen the teeth, thereby increasing the resistance of the tooth. Note that high doses of fluoride varnish could potentially be toxic. Potential alternatives include: calcium phosphate, xylitol, chlorhexidine, and baking soda.

SealantsA sealant is a composite resin applied to the grooves and pits of healthy back teeth to provide a barrier. This procedure is performed in order to prevent demineralization and cavities. Note that sealants can break down without properhome care and diet.

Space Maintainer A space maintainer is a fixed appliance used to maintain space from premature primary tooth loss. It works to maintain space for eruption of permanent teeth. Note that the space maintainer appliance must be monitored, adjusted, and sometimes replaced. It also may cause interference with adjacent erupting teeth. Decay and decalcification are more likely if oral care and diet is poor.

Endodontic Therapy/PulpotomyPulpotomy is the removal of coronal pulp/tissue. This procedure is performed to remove infection and relieve pain and sensitivity. Note that this may result in residual infection or abscess. Alternatives include extraction or root canal therapy.

Exodontia - Extraction - Tooth Removal Exodontia is a procedure in which a tooth is extracted, for the purposes of alleviating pain and discomfort, by removing the cause of the infection. Note that this procedure may cause a fracture of the root, infection, bone loss, shifting of adjacent teeth, and space. The alternative is no treatment.

Composite Restoration (Tooth-Colored Filling) During composite restoration, a resin-based material is used to fill and replace decayed areas of teeth. Composite fillings are made of stable material, and offer esthetic quality. Note that composite fillings can break and stain, may cause filtration (leak), and shades may not match exactly. Alternatives include: glass ionomer.

Oro-Maxillofacial Orthopedic and Orthodontic Treatment Maxillofacial Orthopedic and Orthodontic treatment uses procedures that enhance the growth and development of the oro-facial system, as well as enhance the positioning of the teeth. At PUREDONTICS, our orthopedic and orthodontic treatment starts with a comprehensive evaluation, followed by a series of records. After records are obtained, a case study is performed, and presented to the patient to discuss appropriate treatment options.

Dr. Posada goes above and beyond her training, reaching high levels of expertise in her field. She is very skilled and very kind with her patients and to her staff members as well. Her heart is bigger than all the East Coast and we are so lucky to have found her!! I have two children with significant dental needs. Dr. Posada embraced us like family from the beginning. She gave both girls their smiles, after lots of care, consideration and effort on her part. She created the plan and with dedicated follow through she gifted them beautiful and healthy smiles through adolescence and now into adulthood. She continues to guide us in the next phase of care as the girls dental needs show up. She's an angel and you can trust she has your best interest at heart. Dr. Posada is a brilliant perfectionist and I believe you'll be happy, confident and grateful in her care, like we have for over 8 years now. Thank you Dr. Posada, Grace, Renee and Gretchen

We have been going to Dr. Posada since my child was very young. Our child was having tooth pain, and was in speech therapy 2 times a week for a year because of an extreme lisp. Our previous dentist brushed off our concerns. Immediately Dr posada discovered the issue with our child's teeth and began fixing it. She also discovered our child was severely tongue tied. We did a laser procedure (which was pretty relaxed and our child wasnt scared about at all) and within a month the speech therapist said that our child no longer needed help because their lisp was gone. As for the office, I have never in my life seen another doctors/dentist/medical office as clean. I looked up their sterilizing equipment online and it's top of the line. There is not a bunch of clutter or junk or excess cabinets or Knick knacks. There aren't hideous kids paintings of Winnie the pooh. Many of the walls are glass (which in an office for children, the fact that it's spotless tells you something about the cleanliness) which provides a very transparent work atmosphere and makes parents and kids more relaxed. She explains every detail to my child so that there is no anxiety or fear. The staff treats children like people. And my child genuinely loves going to the dentist. I wish that I could get my dental work done here haha!

Dr. Posada is one of the kindest, most thoughtful and compassionate providers (and person) I've ever had the pleasure to meet. The practice is immaculate, her staff are wonderful and it is always the gold standard of care.

Dr. Posada is awesome! She is very kind and truly cares for her patients. Yes, her new office is very white and clean but I find it comforting to know that she takes pride in keeping things sanitary. Kelsey is awesome too! She is a very sweet and great with the patients. We have been coming to see Dr. Posada for a long time and appreciate the time she has spent with myself and my daughter.

Unexceptable dentistry. A filling they said might go away on its own, ended up being decayed on half the tooth. Another tooth was full of decay but I was told it would fall out on its own, it was spreading decay to the tooth next to it and Needed extraction. Another filling they performed needed retreating. Poor work and communication.

Firstly, it should be noted that posada is no longer in downtown Portsmouth, overlooking the water. The new office is on route one and is terribly stark, clinically white, and entirely void of anything child related. It is very disappointing for a pediatric dentist. How do you keep your child entertained while waiting? The staff is generally pleasant. She is efficient in dealing with the kids although slightly transactional.

This may not seem like a big deal to some but to us this was a huge deal. After my son had such a traumatizing dental experience with our previous dentist office, we thankfully found Dr. Posada! Her team was patient, calm, understanding, were very informant on what to expect and were accommodating to my son's needs along the way. I highly recommend her! Thank you Dr. Posada! -Marissa & Reggie

This pediatric dental office is amazing! She has a dentist there, Dr. Lindsay Decker, and when I tell you amazing she is amazing. My 5 year old had a cavity and when she went to go have it filled (remove the sugar bugs) Dr. Decker was so wonderful, my daughter didn't even know she had a shot in her mouth and she didn't even use the "laughing gas". She is especially great during cleanings as she shows and explains to the kids everything she uses. My daughter was terrified of dentists before this but now she loves going to see Dr. Decker. I would highly recommend her.

Love Dr Posada and her staff! Switched to her from another pediatric dentist. My kids love her too and say "she's so gentle". :-) The office overlooks the water in downtown Portsmouth. The only negative is parking...have to pay a meter.
