Pure Pediatric Dentistry - Pediatric dentist in Atascadero, CA

Dr. Kristin Newsom is a 2005 graduate of University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco, CA. The doctor and her family have lived in San Luis Obispo County since 2007. After achieving her Bachelors degree in Biochemistry from UC San Diego, the doctor went on to pursue her dental degree at UOP. Knowing her love of children, she decided to specialize and did a residency in Pediatric Dentistry and received a Masters in Oral Health at the University of Illinois in Chicago where they lived for 2 years. Having grown up in Visalia and visiting the area every summer, she and her husband decided to move to the beautiful Central Coast where her in-laws have lived for the past 21 years, to be closer to family. Dr. Newsom is married to Sean Newsom and they have 4 beautiful children, Wyatt, Scarlett and Violette, and baby Sawyer. She enjoys spending time with her children and if theres any extra time, traveling and playing tennis. She has practiced locally, in San Luis Obispo, for the past 8 years.

Precision and patient comfort is a prerequisite to Dr. Newsom's work quality. Being a Mom herself, she understands the needs of kids and their parents. She believes in conservative dentistry, tailored to each childs individual case. She is always seeking new knowledge and ways to improve her practice of pediatric dentistry

Upon graduating from Allan Hancock College in 1992, I was hired at Pure Pediatric Dentistry on my 20th birthday. What a wonderful gift that turned out to be. Having always wanted to work with children, adolescents, and those with special needs, this job has been a perfect match for me. I work with an amazing group of girls and always look forward to seeing the faces that walk through our doors each day. Over the years, I have found that it is our patients with special needs that have touched my heart tremendously. I moved to Atascadero when I was 4 and love living on the Central Coast. I was blessed in 2009 when I became a proud Aunt of twins, Max and Sophie. They are a joy to be around, and I cant wait to see whats in store for them and their future.

Being the Treatment Coordinator, I do my best to help you understand and utilize any insurance benefits that you may have. I very much enjoy our team at the office. The diversity in personalities always keeps me smiling. Working with our wonderful patients keeps me on my toes. There is never a dull moment in our office. I was born and raised here on the beautiful Central Coast, graduated from Atascadero High School, and attended Cuesta College. With my free time I like to spend as much of it outside as possible. Whether it be walking our dog Diesel, reading, horseback riding, camping, , or gardening with my husband, Luke and son.

In March of 2009, I was presented with an amazing opportunity to join Pure Pediatric Dentistry. I was delighted. I enjoy working with children as well as being in the dental profession. I love teeth! Having two of my own children has really helped me in what it takes work with and understand children. It also gives me a parents perspective on every day cares and concerns. My husband and I play an active role in our church and community groups where we love spending time with our girls and our family My other love is running and you can often find me running around our local area and competing in marathon and half-marathons.

I graduated from the Monterey Peninsula Dental Assisting Program in 1997, earning my RDA, CDA, Radiology, and Coronal Polishing Certifications. Soon after, I began assisting for a local family practice where I spent the next 7 years. While I enjoyed working with a variety of people of different ages, my true passion came from the little people. So in 2007 I was thrilled when the opportunity to work with children became available with Pure Pediatric Dentistry. The constant energy and enthusiasm from the children and staff alike have made this my most enjoyable and rewarding experience yet!! It is my goal to not only get to know each and every child but to help them have the BEST and MOST positive dental experience possible! On a more personal note, I have a wonderful husband of 10 years and 2 amazing little munchkins of my own! I love nothing more than spending time with them! Watching them watch the world brings out my inner child, and is the most exciting and fun part of parenting! And lets not forget about time alone with the hubby whether it be snowboarding, taking a cruise or just hanging out watching all of my favorite reality TV showsnow thats a good husband!

Dr. Newsom was great but when I asked what was in the sealer recommended for my daughter's teeth, the hygienist got very offended and began making comments while cleaning my daughter's teeth about everyday plastics being more harmful. She wasn't talking directly to me and it made the whole thing very uncomfortable. I thought it was a simple valid question.. just curious. The next time we went in a different hygienist assumed I did not want the sealer and acted very strange when I brought it up. We never went back. It was so awkward.

If I could put zero stars I would. My 3 year old daughter had work done by Kristin Newson and I must say I will never be bringing her back. After her procedure that she had to be put to sleep for , she had insane bruising on her neck, under both eyes and the side of her face. She should not have had very much bleeding (as my oldest had the same procedure done and had little to no bleeding) , my 3 year old had nonstop bleeding for 4 days straight. Did not I guess have the time to talk about aftercare because when I asked I was waved off. My daughter woke up on the 2nd day after her procedure and vomited blood. When calling the hospital, they said to call her dentist and I was told I couldn't get a hold of her until Monday which was about 3 1/2 days away, that she wasn't available. I paid over $3500+ And was treated with the worst service , being waved off as if it was no big deal when I had tried speaking with her there at the hospital, and then the most traumatizing experience ever for my sweet baby. After everything I would NOT trust bringing your children here for they are extremely rough. I wish I knew all of this before, for I would've never trusted my 3 year old in her hands. . I forgot to mention they left my daughter with a huge gap between her front teeth that was not there before, for I took plenty of before and after pictures , and one of her very front teeth is larger and longer than the other. So on top of the traumatic experience they left her with funky teeth.

We just adore Dr. Newsom and all the lovely people who work in her office! I was terrified as a kid to go to the dentist - the office was in a basement and was so dark and all I could picture was Little Shop of Horrors! My how things have changed!! My kids look forward to their routine visits twice a year. Erica always remembers what they talked about 6 months prior... I'm not sure how she does it, I barely remember what we talked about at dinner! We have had to go in for some procedures and they knew how to handle the anxiety my daughter was feeling about having a tooth pulled with ease and before she knew it, the tooth was out! I whole heartedly recommend Dr. Newsom and her team to any friends or family members looking for a pediatric dentist.

Although my wife did her due diligence by calling ahead and assuring our Delta Dental insurance was COVERED, they billed us $236 for the routine check-up of our two very young children (one of which just had a peek taken at his mouth as he was under 2 yrs old). We come to find that they are a Delta Premier, not Delta PPO dentist. (Although in Delta's extensive search system, they don't even come up as a "Premier" network dentist") Despite the omission/deception, they were unwilling to help with any sort of credit to the charges and preferred to keep our hard earned money.

My daughter is 2.5 and had her first dental appt. They were Amazing! Cute office that totally caters to kids. She didn't seem scared and let them do a check and cleaning which I didn't think would have been possible. They also give the kids a coin to use on toy machines after which is a great treat for your little one :-)
