Proud Smiles Dental - General dentist in Atlanta, GA

Dr. Brenda Paulen, D.M.D., is a native Atlantan and, as a second-generation dentist, she comes from a family dedicated to dentistry. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University and her Doctorate of Dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.

After serving metro Atlanta for nearly twenty years, Dr. Paulen opened Proud Smiles Dental in Sandy Springs, in August 2002, with the specific vision of providing a more personal health-centered approach to dental care.

Trained in both restorative and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Paulen has attended an extensive array of continuing education courses to remain current with the recent advances in dental treatment techniques and technology. This includes courses covering advanced endodontics (root canal treatments), dental implant restorations, and a special concentration of over 100 hours on treating occlusal (bite) conditions. Dr. Paulen was one of the first doctors in the Atlanta area to offer Invisalign clear aligners and was also one of the first to use a digital impression process (iTero) that replaces the traditional putty-based approach.

The human body is approximately 60% water, so you should drink plenty of water to replenish your body and stay healthy. Dehydration can lead to serious medical conditions as well as oral health concerns.

Dentists and other medical professionals agree that you should drink at least eight eight-ounce glasses of water to maintain adequate levels of hydration. Dr. Brenda Paulen, a dentist serving patients in Sandy Springs, GA, describes three oral health benefits you will notice when you drink plenty of water.

Proud Smiles Dental - General dentist in Atlanta, GA

We practice oral hygiene in order to remove plaque, tartar, and other residues that accrue over our teeth throughout our days. This build-up could hurt tooth enamel, risking the formation of dental problems like cavities. Proper oral hygiene regimens lower this risk and should entail brushing teeth twice every day and flossing daily.

But we consume substances that contribute to plaque formation between these oral hygiene routines. Drinking a glass of water can rinse residues from your smile that could otherwise cause dental damage. Getting rid of lingering food particles will also help you prevent bad breath.

Low levels of hydration may mean that you are producing less saliva in your mouth, leading to a condition called dry mouth. This dry environment feels uncomfortable but also allows the natural bacteria in your mouth to more easily spread across your teeth. This creates a higher chance of contracting oral infections like periodontal disease.

Gum disease can cause major structural damage to your smile, including tooth loss, if it progresses. Once it advances, it is hard to eradicate, so dentists recommend taking preventative measures to protect your gums. Drinking plenty of water will help you maintain a low-risk oral environment, protecting your teeth and gums.

Water offers many health advantages compared to other popular beverages like soft drinks. It contains zero calories and no added sugar. Sugar notoriously hurts your teeth because it reacts with bacteria in your mouth to become acidic. The acid then erodes your enamel, putting your dental health and structure at risk.

Water may also have fluoride, a substance that absorbs into your tooth enamel and fortifies it against agents that may stain or harm your smile. By choosing water over other drinks, you can preserve the bright look of your smile and fight off tooth decay.

I just had the best dentist experience ever. I have put off going anywhere for over 7 years now...and finally a cracked tooth forced me to find a place to go. I was so lucky to find Proud Smiles. I really can't say enough about how well I was treated by every single member of the staff. I'm sure this part was just lucky - but I was able to get in for a consultation in a single day and was able to have procedures done the day after that. I am now very motivated to take care of many years of ....I won't say neglect...but I surely wasn't doing the things I should have been...and I feel like I have a caring dental home where I can work through those all of those things and will receive top of the line care. Dr. Paulen was fantastic!

Very bad experience. They tell you that you HAVE TO pay a $100 of deposit that goes "towards" the procedure and THEN after you sign and FINISH they actually tell you that the $100 was for the "visit, x-rays, etc". Meaning you PAY $100 as soon as you step in their office. NEVER coming back again. They don't know how to communicate with their clients and a simple apology will not bring my money back. Besides, as soon as I arrived there they told me what they would do because I had already informed, I paid $290 for the procedure and there was no valuation or x-rays or nothing similar. But still, I paid $100 "for that". Again, NEVER coming back to this place.

Let me start with saying I believe this place is covered and everyone here is an angel. From the front desk everybody is so nice and sweet to the back where they treat you like you're the number one patient they make you feel so comfortable and welcomed to the Doctor Who is such a sweetheart she's so understanding she's patient and she really tries to find the best results for you. As someone who has "Dentist phobia" this is the only place I have been able to go to and feel comfortable from the beginning to the end I'm so glad that I found her office. Her staff is INCREDIBLE and it's a HUGE difference then any other Dentist office I've ever been to. I would recommend this place to anyone especially if you're scared of the dentist you won't have to worry about that here they'll take great care of you just like they did me. thank you Dr.Paulen!

Excellent Service!!! I came in for the gum depigmentation procedure and was highly satisfied with my experience and the results! Their customer service was the best I've encountered. I walked in a bit nervous for my appointment however Christine, Dr. Paulen, and Dr. Claudy were extremely friendly and welcoming. Dr. Paulen and her assistant Dr. Claudy were knowledgeable and communicative and they provided me with best experience possible easing my nerves. They consistently made sure I was comfortable. The procedure was quick and painless and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results! Proud Smiles definitely lives up to their name as I left my appointment beaming with happiness. I will be recommending this dentistry to everyone! Thank you Dr. Paulen!

Never in my life have I ever been exited to go to the dentist until I became a patient at Dr. Paulen's office. It's the best experience i've ever had in my life that I have even decided to go to Dental Assisting School!! The services they provide is like no other, the entire team always makes sure you always understand all your procedures. Every single employee in this office has the best attitude, super sweet, and make conversation to make you feel comfortable. They are so comforting from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. Aside from that, the results are amazing!!! Dr. Paulen worked on working around my natural teeth to give me such a natural look and i can not explain how in love i am with my results. I'm so embarrassed of how my smile used to be prior to coming to Dr. Paulen. My results are so amazing I can not stop looking in the mirror or smiling to my clients in my office! The amount of compliments i receive a day is crazy! Aside from the beauty, I never knew how important your oral hygiene is. Being that I'm only 19 going on to 20, my teeth and oral hygiene comes before anything!! Highly recommend, and i've recommended Proud Smiles to EVERYONE. I love it here

I went to Proud Smiles this morning to have a fever blister treated. I had this treated 6 years ago by another dentist and it was awfully painful. Dr Paulen treated my blister without using the numbing gel and I felt nothing a slight tingle and that was it!!! If you suffer from fever blisters this is a one time treatment that is NOT painful! Dr Paulen is the best!!
