Dr. Grillo studied at Albion College in Michigan where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He completed his dental school training at the University of Pittsburgh and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1992. He then completed a one-year general practice residency at St. Lukes Metro Hospital in Cleveland Ohio.
From 1994-1996, Dr. Grillo completed a specialty post graduate program in advanced prosthodontics at the West Los Angeles Veteran Affairs Medical Center and the University of California Los Angeles, School of Dentistry. He also earned a certificate in the sub specialty of Maxillofacial Prosthetic Rehabilitation in 1997 at UCLA.
Dr. Grillo served on the teaching staff at UCLA and as a faculty member in both the Removable Prosthodontics and the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Departments. He has also been affiliated as a faculty member and a consultant for the Graduate Prosthodontics department at the West Los Angeles VA. Dr. Grillo is a member of the American College of Prosthodontics and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and has lectured at numerous dental conferences for government and private organizations.
Born in San Francisco, Dr. Lum spent most of his life growing up in the Bay Area. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and a minor in Economics from the University of California San Diego, he worked in the biotech industry before pursuing a career in the field of dentistry.
Dr. Lum attended dental school at the University of California Los Angeles before completing a three-year specialty program in advanced prosthodontics and implant dentistry at UCLA. Dr. Lum received his certificate and became board eligible in 2008. Later, he completed an additional one-year fellowship in the sub-specialty of maxillofacial prosthetics at the UCLA Medical Center.
Currently, Dr. Lum maintains a career in private practice while working part-time as a clinical instructor at UCLA. He is an active member of various professional organizations including the American College of Prosthodontics, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the San Diego Dental Society. Dr. Lum has lectured at meetings and has published articles in the California Dental Association Journal.

As our office administrator, Lucia has the challenge of caring for our office, the employees, and our patients. With her great sense of humor and charming ways, she does an excellent job in keeping our office exciting and fun.
Janice has been a dental assistant for 30 years. She has worked in pediatrics, endodontics, prosthodontics and general dentistry. In 2006 she attended and extended function Registered Dental Assistantcourse at UCLA and continues to stay updated on her education. She enjoys working as a team and takes pride in her work. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, farming, camping and crafting as well as spending quality time with her husband and daughter.
As a dental assistant, Maribel assists at chairside while also helping behind the scenes with laboratory procedures, digital model scanningand equipment maintenance.With her many years of professional experience, we feel very fortunate to have her as an integral member of our team.
Rebecca was born and raised in Sonoma County California. In 2000 she moved to San Diego and began her journey in the Dental field. She has worked in pediatrics, orthodontics, endodontics along with 15 years in general dentistry. Rebecca feels her light natured sense of humor is the key to helping patients feel relaxed and at ease when working with her. In her spare time you will find her somewhere in nature ready for her next adventure or volunteering within her community.
Stephanie has been with us since the opening of our practice in 2005. She holds a BS in Dental Hygiene from the USC School of Dentistry. She prides herself in providing our patients with gentle and thorough professional dental hygiene and focuses on those with compromised oral health such as radiation induced xerostomia. She is a Southern California native and has lived in San Diego since 1992. Outside of the office, she enjoys time with her husband, Brian, and their 2 daughters, Cassandra and Gabriella. When she is not here caring for our patients, she enjoys cycling around the beach area, yoga, movies, and volunteering for Girl Scouts as a troop leader and adult support team member.

My wife sees this company. No problems with the actual service, however, the backend side of the company with respect to "complementary billing" of the insurance for out of network claims appears dysfunctional. No follow thru and have had to call multiple times now for claims from last year that did not get pushed thru on primary and secondary insurance. Grating experience on this front. No issues with the insurance at all with other companies - just here. Update - I spoke with them again and things appear to be getting better so have amended my review. I have noticed recent staff changes have helped things so looking like we got caught in a transition.

Dr Lum and his team are awesome! I've always had bad experiences with previous dentist. He knew I was terrified and had trust issues and already had a low self esteem regarding my teeth. But that all changed, and they walked me through the procedures and what to expect, I had more confidence to go through work that needed to be done! Now I can't stop smiling and confidence is through the roof! Thanks Dr Lum and team!

I had been seen DR Lum from the last 10 months and it has been a very successful experience. I typically do not write reviews, however, I wanted others to know the excellent quality of care I received from Dr. Grillo and his team on more than one occasion. He has tackled and successfully accomplished very difficult dental issues for me that other dental professionals were unable to complete. He is very pro-active in working with the patient and has always given me his honest opinion. He and his staff are genuine and nice to be around which makes it nice to be there. Recently Dr. Grillo and his team, including Able the lab technician, replaced an existing crown on my front tooth matching it perfectly in size, shape, and color to the adjacent existing older crown. This was next to impossible due to the age and make-up of the older crown. The extreme effort Dr. Grillo, Able, and staff made on my behalf is nothing short of unbelievable, impressive, and so very greatly appreciated. They are truly a "one-of-a-kind" office.

I currently am still in treatment - but I just wanted to write this review to say that I am extremely grateful for Dr. Grillo and the staff. I first came in to the office seeking help after visiting so many different specialists who didn't know how to help me. I had suffered a very unfortunate injury caused by another dentist, and I had been frantically trying to find a way out of my excruciating chronic pain. I was eventually diagnosed with trigeminal neuropathy. Dr. Grillo did a small amount of restorative work which significantly reduced my chronic pain which allowed me to get a huge part of my life back. I have been in treatment with an orthodontist as well during all of this, and will soon be receiving my final restorations on my teeth that were damaged. I can finally say that I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and have hope that my chronic pain will go away completely and I will have my happy, normal life back again after my teeth are completely fixed. It has been a long road to recovery but I feel so thankful that I will soon be comfortable and pain-free again for the first time in years. Thank you.

I've been a patient of Dr Lum for about a year and half and needed his services after surgery for oral cancer. I can't say enough great things about his office and the experience. He takes the time to explain exactly what will be done in each visit. We've had to work around some surgery scheduling issues and he's always happy to help. He has offered sound advice on several occasions when I was faced with difficult decisions and I would trust his recommendations without hesitation. The office staff are also a great group to work with. They make you feel at home and like you're the only patient. During COVID times they have taken pains to make sure the office is safe and still friendly. I would recommend Dr Lum's practice to anyone without hesitation.

Lost my front teeth at a young age and had very limited time until leaving for college to get a bridge to fix my front teeth & smile aesthetics! Dr. Lum not only expedited my bridge, he worked with me around my strict schedule to find a time and place so that I would look great and feel great before leaving the nest - sometimes even allowing me to schedule appointments before opening, and clearing time in his own very busy schedule for my benefit! The team here has truly changed my life and I am so extremely grateful for their kindness and generosity, I will definitely be visiting again!

Dr. Grillo has been my dentist for over sixteen years....I grew up in the 1950's in Ohio and had very poor dentistry...and sometimes none at all....My teeth are precious and priceless to me....and have needed a masterful attention. No dentist or prosthodontic dentist is as knowledgeable, competent and professional as Dr. Miguel Grillo. I have been going to him for 14 years and get compliments on my teeth. I suffer from Trigeminal Neuropathic Pain and Dr. Grillo is also knowledgeable about my syndrome. The staff is accommodating, courteous and professional as well. The best choice in San Diego county.
