Dr. Proffitt received his undergraduate degree and his doctoral degree from the University of Tennessee. Since graduation he has pursued additional continuing education at the Pankey Institute in Florida and the Dick Barnes Group in Utah while maintaining a general dental practice. He continues to improve his skills through associations with various organizations including the Pankey Institute and the Seattle Study Club.

Dr. Proffitt is a member of the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association and the Second District Dental Association. He is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and he is a member of the American Society of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Academy of Biomimetic Dentistry. He is pursuing certification in Biomimetic Dentistry, a new form of dentistry that is kinder and gentler for his patients and their teeth. This technique is more conservative for tooth structure than any other method today.

Having worked for many years with patients of all ages and having participated in providing care for nursing home patients in Virginia, he is aware of the need for dental care for the elderly. He continues to look for better ways to provide seniors with better dental health.He presently holds dental licenses in Tennessee and Virginia.
