Alka Mahajan, DMD, brings passion and care to every patient interaction at Progressive Dental Care in Fairfax, Virginia. Skilled in all fields of dentistry, she has a special interest in treating the restorative and cosmetic dental needs of patients. From investing in digital X-rays and CariVue, a novel radiation-free cavity detection system, Dr. Mahajan stays current in the latest and greatest technologies to best serve her patients.
Dr. Mahajans dental knowledge and experience is extensive, extending over 15 years, but its her gentle approach to care that makes her so well-loved by her patients and respected by her staff at Progressive Dental Care. Her dedication to and compassion for each and every patient is what makes her practice so unique.
Dr. Mahajan has two dental degrees, having earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Mangalore, India, prior to coming to the United States. Passionate about continuing her dental career, she attended Tufts University in Boston, earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2004. Since then, her enthusiasm for learning has never waned, as youll find Dr. Mahajan often at continuing education courses, most recently obtaining certifications in Lumineers, which are a special type of veneer, and Implant Dentistry.
Despite her busy schedule, Dr. Mahajan makes time for her family. She loves cooking with them and volunteering at her childrens school. But she can never stay away from dentistry for too long. She often volunteers at the Northern Virginia Dental Society clinic, providing dental care to those who need it most.

Whole experience was very pleasant. Dr. Mahajan was flexible in accommodating me on a Saturday. Good latest equipment made x-rays easy. Best part was Dr. Mahajan does the cleaning herself and not a dental hygienist. She suggest treatment if needed and does not scare you with unnecessary procedures. I definitely recommend her practice

Dr Mahajan is a wonderful dentist who uses modern technologies and has great skill. When our former "old school" dentist retired some years ago we were fortunate to find her and we have had much work done for our family, all with excellent results.

We are so lucky to have found Dr. Mahajan! All good things to say: 1. VERY reasonably priced. Will never push a procedure or anything on you if it's not necessary. In fact, she will try to find ways to make things cheaper for her clients. 2. Always takes time to explain things in an accessible and detailed way. 3, wonderful family run business - warm, friendly, kind and the best people!

Not that I've been to lots of dentists before, but from the four that I've visited so far in the United States, Dr. Alka Mahajan has been my best experience. She's very thorough in explaining things, extremely kind and comforting individual; she is very honest, transparent and answers all your questions very patiently (the questions I asked other dentists/PCPs/urgent care/ER Doctors, Dr. Mahajan answered those without me asking ). I loved the dental care she's provided so far; I'd certainly recommend her to anyone and everyone! Thanks so much Dr. Mahajan, you and your staff is the best!

Highly recommend this dentist office for someone who feels anxious about seeing a dentist! It's a small and private setting that is safe and accepting. The staff are very kind and non judgemental, and are great at setting their patients at ease.

Dr Alka Mahajan is very cordial and thorough. I always know she uses the latest information learned from each visit to provide the best care. This visit was no different. This time we got to work on a daughter who has been living out of the states most of the time. This was the most laid back, no pressure to do what you don't need to be done. If there is any chance at all that the tooth/teeth can be saved, they will do it! Very personable and friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend Progressive Dental Care!
