Dr. Proffitt attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he earned his business degree in Transportation. Before graduation, he made the decision to pursue a career in dentistry. That decision necessitated him to take some additional science courses before applying to dental school.
For his dental training, he attended the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis. He then returned home to Maryville where he joined his uncle in practice. After four years he took over the practice and continues to serve patients in the community.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association and the Second District Dental Association. Other affiliations include the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists, and the academy of Biomimetic Dentistry.
He has completed advanced studies at the Pankey Institute in Florida and at the Alleman-Deliperi centers for training in biomimetic dentistry in Salt Lake City and Italy. His passion is educating patients about the latest developments in conservative restorative dentistry.

I was referred to Dr. Proffitt through a friend at just the right time. I had just been told by my then dentist that I had a cracked tooth and needed a crown. This would be my third crown for the same reason within just a few short years. Crowns are incredibly pricey, and for someone who does not enjoy being in the dentist chair they are also quite traumatizing. I left that dentist frustrated at the concept of another crown and saw my friend's FB post about her personal experience with Dr. Proffitt. I decided to check into the option, and my only regret is that I didn't know about him two crowns ago. I know without a doubt I wouldn't have a single crown had I known about Dr. Proffitt and his Biomimetic option for tooth restoration. I hands down would recommend this method for anyone. It's incredible to feel like there are finally other ways available to manage your teeth that doesn't always resort to drilling an otherwise perfectly good tooth down to the nub and making a crown. You should check Dr. Proffitt out. You won't be sad you did.
