Hi, my name is Dr. Susan Polis and thank you for checking out our website! I have been involved with dentistry since 1980 in the State of Alaska. I graduated from the University of Minnesota in Dental Hygiene that year and immediately moved to Alaska and began providing preventive care in many areas such as Anchorage, Seward, Valdez, Dutch Harbor, King Cove, Sand Point and Glennallen. I love Alaska and eventually found a full-time position in Homer, AK, where I worked from 1985 to 1990 as a registered Dental Hygienist.
In 1990, I decided to go further and began my journey to become a dentist. I went to the University of Anchorage, Alaska and took a few requirements and refresher classes to pass the Dental Admission Test (DAT). I was accepted to Loma Linda University School in Loma Linda, California in 1993 and graduated in 1997 with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery.
Since earning my dentist credentials, I have had practices in Yakutat, Barrow, and Homer. I now spend most of my time in Homer where I live three weeks each month. One week a month I am in Barrow providing high quality dental services. I absolutely love the field of dentistry and helping people to achieve their dream smiles.
As a member of the American Dental Society, Alaska Dental Society, and Academy of General Dentistry, I keep up with all the newest innovations in the field. I recently underwent training at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in neuromuscular, aesthetic and implant dentistry and am committed to providing excellent, caring dentistry.
Skya was born and raised in Homer, AK, and graduated from high school in 2004.a She then proceeded to get bachelor's degree in heath ecology from the University of Nevada Reno. After graduation, she worked for Preventive Dental Services as a dental assistant and then went back to school to become an oral hygienist. Then she received a bachelor's degree in science of dental hygiene in Orem, UT. At her graduation ceremony, she was awarded the Golden Scaler award. In her spare time she enjoys fishing in Alaska, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Mya started working at Preventive Dental Services in 2019 as a certified dental assistant. Dr. Polis calls her a utility player because she helps maintain dental and oral care equipment and jumps up to reception when needed. She loves the dental field and seeing the patients walk out the door smiling and happy. In her free time she enjoys beach combing, camping, and spending time with loved ones.
Kalah started working as a dental assistant in may of 2021. She is new in the dental field and flourishing in the office. Kalah is a quick learner and is a true team player. She grew up in Denver Colorado and has been all over the states. After settling in Alaska in 2015 shes here to stay! In her free time she enjoys riding her horses, making art and is always ready for the next adventure.
