An honors graduate of NYU College of Dentistry, Dr. Zatzkin stays up to date on advances in his field through extensive continuing education. He is one of the few periodontists in the area performing the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique, a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for correcting gum recession, and is also skilled at computer-guided implant surgery and All-on-4 Treatment Concept implants. His office is equipped with a 3D CT scanner, digital x-rays, laser technology and a computerized pain-free injection system. Sedation options are available, as well. The leading cause of gum recession is periodontal (gum) disease. Other causes include trauma, over-brushing, poor oral hygiene, genetics, hormonal changes, tobacco use, crooked teeth, and bruxism (teeth grinding). Gum recession can result in exposed roots, leading to major tooth sensitivity. It can also lead to teeth that appear longer and are at a greater risk of decay, infection, and extraction.
Periodontal disease is an infection caused by the harmful bacteria found in plaque. Over time, this infection can spread the gums, connective tissues, and even the underlying jawbone. Eventually, tooth loss will occur. Gum recession is a major symptom of advanced periodontal disease and usually requires immediate treatment.
The Chao pinhole technique is scalpel and suture-free. Even though discomfort is minimal, we begin with a local anesthetic to numb the area. During the actual procedure, we use a needle to make a tiny hole near the recessed gum tissue. Next, we will use a special hand tool to loosen the healthy tissue underneath gently. This makes it possible for us to slide the healthy tissue over the recessed area.
The new tissue will eventually heal over the deteriorated gums and cover the exposed root structure. This eliminates the need to remove healthy tissue from other areas of the mouth, such as the palate. The procedure usually takes one to two hours to complete.
The Chao pinhole technique had some benefits over traditional gum recession treatments. Eliminating the need for scalpels and sutures makes the procedure much more minimally-invasive. It can also lead to a faster, more comfortable procedure and healing period.
The results of Chao pinhole gum surgery are also permanent. Once your tissue is fully regenerated, be sure to practice proper oral hygiene. Regular brushing and flossing can help ensure your gum recession does not return. Follow these steps, and your gums should stay healthy for years to come!

Dr.Zatzkin performed pin hole surgery on me over two years ago and the results were fantastic. He is an excellent periodontist who spends the necessary time to fully explain things and answer all questions. I go for two teeth cleanings per year and I could not be happier with the service provided. Everyone in the office provides excellent service and they are all wonderful people. I would highly recommend.

I'm in the process of having an implant done, but had to have a bone graft done first. Everyone has been very nice and helpful. Dr Zatzkin has been very clear and honest about each procedure and concerned about my pain levels and healing. So far, I've experience no pain and quick healing.
