Dr. Shelley Shults is truly a unique individual. Quadruple board-certified as a general dentist, registered nurse, family nurse practitioner (with study emphasis in sleep medicine and therapeutics), and dental sleep medicine provider, she brings a unique level of expertise and skill to every treatment and exam she provides. The only thing that matches her knowledge is her unbridled passion for improving the health of our patients, and you can start getting to know her by reading on below.
Dr. Shults attended Wichita State University and received a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1982. She went on to gain experience in neonatal nursing, community health nursing, internal medicine, urgent care, and out-patient care. In 2001, she obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from The Ohio State University. In the years that followed, she furthered her education on a wide variety of dental topics, particularly sleep apnea care, and eventually, she graduated from South University with high honors with a Master of Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner. She is also quadruple board certified (BSN, DDS, ABDSM, CNP-BC), as well as a Diplomate with the AADSM (a distinguished honor, as there are less than 300 in the country.)
After spending nearly 20 years as a nurse, why did Dr. Shults decide to go back to school to become a dentist? She became a dentist because of the opportunity to practice with a comprehensive whole-body-oral-systemic approach to health. She can combine her medical and dental knowledge along with her artistic talents to achieve both general dental and periodontal rejuvenation, provide excellent results with cosmetic esthetic single or complex cases, provide comprehensive prosthodontic rehabilitation including implant supported dentures of various types, and safely care for those who are anxious or medically compromised.
Dr. Shults enjoys problem solving health issues and has a strong medical referral base for those who are not connected within the medical system. Dr. Shults thrives on delivering care that surpasses the patients highest expectations while additionally practicing with honesty, integrity, highest value/quality, and enjoying the trust, friendship, and appreciation that patients express to us. Her patients are like her family and she always provides them with the same high quality and compassionate care that she would want to have.
When not at the office or lecturing for various educational groups in Dental Sleep Medicine, Dr. Shults likes to spend her free time playing music, specifically the trumpet and piano. She also enjoys cooking, taking pictures, reading, swimming, and traveling. She and her husband Kip have been married for over 44 wonderful years, and they have one daughter, Krista, and three beautiful grandchildren. Their daughter is actually the Office Manager at our practice, so youll be sure to meet her when you come to see us!
Dr. Phillips graduated from Sahuaro High School in Tucson in 1988, and he went on to attend the University of Arizona, graduating with a B.S. in Microbiology in 1992. He then continued his education at Oregon Health Sciences University and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1997. After graduating from dental school, he practiced general dentistry for five years in Tucson.
During this time, he discovered that there was an unmet need for in-office sedation services. He decided to further his education in anesthesia by attending The Ohio State University dental anesthesia program, where he eventually received his Masters degree in Dental Anesthesiology in 2004. He then returned to Tucson and began providing in-office anesthesia services for children, adults, and special needs patients. He eventually moved to the Columbus area in December 2012.
Dr. Phillips enjoys spending time with his wife, Tonya, and their four boys, Alec, Jacob, Brayden, and Gavin. In his spare time, he likes to play lacrosse, cycle, read, and play guitar in a praise and worship band at his church. He and his family currently reside in Westerville.

I'm a career USAF officer (retired) and we've lived all over the country. We have had MANY dentists...but none...I repeat...NONE are as helpful, professional, knowledgeable, and friendly as Dr. Shelley and her practice colleagues. Most people dread the dentist...I welcome my visits. I talked my wife into coming here, too. I feel cared for...my teeth, and my health. If you don't have a dentist, go here (and I know saying this may make it harder to get an appointment).

I hate going to "the dentist". Several weeks ago, I broke a front tooth in half and, despite looking like a homeless person, I chose to go around looking ridiculous rather than facing a trip to the dentist. Ultimately, I was shamed by friends into getting my tooth fixed. I decided to try my luck with a new (to me) dentist, Dr Shelley Shults who was recommended by a friend. My experience was excellent. The staff of the Powell Dental Group was friendly and accommodating. The office was tasteful and comfortable. I was especially pleased that I felt relaxed in the waiting room as well as in the dental chair. Dr Shults did a great job outfitting me with a temporary crown and I am not dreading the permanent "installation" in a few weeks...which is a major victory for me. And it is especially nice that my temporary tooth looks better than my "real" tooth had before I broke it! While I'm not thrilled with the prospect of the need for ongoing dental care, I was sufficiently comfortable with my experience to make an appointment for a cleaning and full evaluation as I have a number of teeth that need some attention. Thanks to Dr Shults and her staff for a pleasant office experience...high praise from this dental-phobic!

The staff and Dr. Shults are all very professional from the front desk to the dental technician who assisted Dr. Shults. I had an appointment prepping me to have three implant crowns placed in my mouth in three weeks and the technician who did all the preliminary work and Dr. Shults were both great. Since this was a new experience for me I wasn't sure what to expect and it could not have been any better.

Been going for 19 years. Never a negative experience. They go out of their way if needed. Dentist met me after hours at 7:30pm to fix a tooth as I was leaving on vacation the next day.

I recently became a patient with the practice Powell Dental Group after having been with another practice for almost 20 years. My insurance coverage changed so I was forced to look elsewhere. After going to a now defunct practice for a couple months, I was looking for another. My wife's and my choice was Powell Dental and we couldn't be happier and more comfortable. At 62, I even learned better ways to practice good oral hygiene. Two thumbs up all around.

From the warm greeting as I walked through the front door, to my cleaning with the hygienist, all the way to my exam with Dr. Shelly, everyone makes you feel like family. Aetna insurance are not covered here and staff would inform you about this once your process started instead of before so you will not have any option other than paying from the out-of-pocket.

I love this place. I am given a quote before the procedure, and no surprises! They do quality work and spend a little extra time to make sure it's right! I have sleep apnea, and I prefer the mouthpiece to having a mask that I have to change out the parts frequently! I looked for a dentist that would help me, for a long time, before I found her, and I'm glad I did! Dr Shelly gave me the answers I needed!!

I was career military and have lived all over. I've had the best military dental care then the best private practice dentists. None compare to this one. It is THE best. Safe, caring, smart, professional, relaxing, and keeps you informed at the visits and between visits. I hesitate saying ditch your dentist and go to this one as it may make my getting an appointment harder, but I have to say it. Drop yours, and go here. You'll see why with one visit.

I always have a great experience when I am at Powell Dental Group. Even through covid protocols, they are very accommodating. I was informed this morning that there was an opening in the early afternoon. They were aware of my schedule and did a great job fitting me in!

As always Dr. Shultz and her team were fantastic. They treat you more like a member of the extended family than as a just a patient. Great care is taken and the attention to detail is superb. Their COVID protocol is great as well. I really feel that they are concerned about my well being.

From the care for our health and safety, to the professionalism, to the ambiance, to how great they treat you...and above all, how knowledgeable and clear they are with your treatment. They KNOW what they are doing, and treat each person as they are the most special person they have ever met. If you have a dentist, but are not sure if he/she is right for you...try Dr. Shelley. She and her staff are TOP SHELF ALL THE WAY...start to finish. Plus, she fixed my sleep apnea with a tailored dental appliance. No more CPAPs. UGH!

Powell Dental Group is absolutely amazing!! My daughter had a severe toothache over the weekend. When I called in to their office and requested for a same day appointment, they worked it out and saw us right away. Dr. Shults was also very warm and polite.
