The hygienists and doctors have always been great, no problems there. However I can no longer recommend Portsmouth Dental to anyone. They have a long history of problems in the billing department: overcharging, undercharging, sometimes charge at time of visit, sometimes don't, failure to disclose at time of service whether the services will be covered by insurance or not, how much the service will cost, failure to disclose when a service has a lower cost alternative, incorrect codes sent to the insurance, bills lacking in detail or explanation. Dealing with them to resolve the issues is a nightmare. They repeatedly demand payment without providing explanation or breakdown of costs, lumping services together with others which haven't even been processed by the insurance yet. They refuse to acknowledge or abide by information provided in writing from the insurance company with which they hold a contract, and they refuse to contact the insurance company to resolve the discrepancy. Their behavior is unprofessional, they are incapable of having a discussion and coming to a mutual understanding, they throw insults at the insurance company, they refuse to answer your questions, talk over you, give you ultimatums, remove your children from service, and hang up on you on the phone. Don't waste your time with Portsmouth Dental, find a more professional dental practice that is fair, honest, and that you can trust.

I have been with Portsmouth Dental for many many years..for a reason. Everyone that works In there are true professionals and they make you feel at home. Jenny is amazing!! Highly recommend making an appointment. You will not be disappointed.

Dr May's office staff was very helpful, made me feel welcome and answered any questions I had. Dr May explained what he will be doing to correct my issues and eased a lot of my fears. I'm looking forward to having my dental work done by Dr May. Thank you for seeing me so quickly!! I highly recommend Portsmouth Dental Associates!!

3rd visit and the experience is superb! Becky and Jenny are great not only are their hands perfect for the work but kept me at ease and held as much of a conversation you can in such an environment. We came because of our familiarity with Dr Tillman and are very happy with the team of Doctors they have brought in.

Dr May diagnosed a problem a year ago. I postponed to get a second opinion from a dentist I have used in nyc. They did not see then, or back in May when in city for a cleaning! However, I could feel something not right. In R.I. for our twice yearly visits this week and saw Dr. May again. Happy to say he performed a root canal effectively and painlessly. It's just the next day and off Tylenol!...only slight soreness!! I will not see anyone else again! Staff was exceptionally accommodating & friendly. Would highly recommend Dr. May to anyone!!

The receptionist Brittney was awesome for getting me in for an appointment. Barbara my hygienist was great along with Dr. May had such great advice for dental care.

I was hesitant to switch dentists at first after going to my previous one for the past 10+ years but I couldn't have been happier with my decision to go here. I wish I made the switch to Portsmouth Dental Associates years ago.

Good, efficient and friendly dental hygienist. I did not see the dentist which I used to part of the bi-annual visit. Are services being cut? Then when I checked out to update new address for 3 of my family members I was told by the receptionist that I couldn't make an appointment for my husband because of HIPAA. When I questioned it she was not going to change her mind. Bad form Portsmouth Dental Associates!
