Came to the United States with her mother and two brothers in 1980. She earned Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biopsychology from the University of Michigan in 1996. She gained her Doctorate at University of Detroit Mercy School in Dentistry in 2001.
After graduation, Dr. Portnoy began practicing dentistry in the Lansing area and shes been proud to call Okemos home ever since. She lives with her husband and three children. She enjoys cooking, snowboarding, tennis, traveling, knitting & crocheting.

Hello, it's me! I graduated from Career Quest in early 2019 for Medical Billing and Coding. I worked in the medical field a little over a year before being offered a position at this wonderful dental practice of Portnoy & Tu, DDS, PC. I enjoy meeting all the patients and being able to help answer all their questions and concerns regarding to their dental experience. The care that I received was fantastic. Post care, I was set up for a payment plan stating how much in total I would pay for the care I received. I was told if there were any changes to this plan I would receive a phone call. I had called to make the last payment early and was told that I owe $669 more than what I was originally told. I never received a phone call stating I had owed more than I expected and the office had a hard time finding how this was missed, had to call me back after looking into it, and blamed it on the computer system.

After years of trial and error and other dentists telling me there was no bite guard that I could tolerate, Dr. Portnoy performed magic for me! For decades I'd suffered with facial nerve pain and TMJ pain, making me grind my teeth at night to the point of knocking a dental crown off repeatedly. Dr. Portnoy mounted a DETAILED CASE STUDY OF MY JAW JOINTS, modeling my new bit guard to fit precisely. Thank you, Dr. P.!

Just had my new patient visit and cleaning. The staff here is the best! Catherine was my hygienist, and is the best hygienist I've ever had. The thoroughness was incredible, and they really do take the time to explain & teach. They also clearly explain my treatment plan & costs. Very professional.

I just moved to Okemos and am happy I found this dentistry. I got my cleaning with Catherine - she did a very thorough job and took time to answer all my questions. I also saw Dr. Portnoy who is very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Highly recommend!!

THERE AREN'T ENOUGH STARS TO DESCRIBE THE LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE AND CARE AT THIS DENTAL OFFICE. The individualized care I received on my first visit to Dr. Tu is something that I've never experienced in many years of dental care. Seriously. She took time to ask thoughtful questions about my dental habits, dental issues, and general health to understand how to build a dental health plan for me. As she examined me on my first visit, Dr. Tu noticed two issues created by former dentists that had bothered me, and fixed them on the spot! She is more than a dentist, she's an amazing individual who actually CARES about her patients. The staff was cheerful, efficient, and welcoming. They make every effort to give you a quality experience. This is a spectacular dental practice. If you want the highest level of professionalism, dedication and technical skill in your dentist, look no further. THESE are the dentists, and this is the place.

To be very honest, here dental cleaning is a good place to go, and also they have a nice group of assistants. But I don't suggest for anything else important treatment here except cleaning, if you have to then try to ask to be referred to professionals, you never know how much pain you will suffer from a not good quality of treatment, and also maybe pay an extra repair payment that suppose to be free, I would think that their charge system need to be supervised. I am sorry that I just try to give a very reasonable comment here and also would like to give myself a lesson how to choose a qualified family dr.

I can tell you Dr. Gianh Portnoy is committed to providing exceptional patient care. Having been recently diagnosed with sleep Apnea, I decided on the mouth piece/appliance instead of the cpap machine. Dr. Portnoy's office has all the latest equipment and expertise to diagnosis and accurately customize the mouth piece. She explained everything she was doing and answered all of my questions. I sleep so well and no more snoring! I would 10/10 recommend her!

Both Drs. Portnoy and Tu have worked on my teeth, and their dental assistant, Catherine, has cleaned my teeth every six months for quite a few years. I highly recommend this dental practice for any members of your family who need teeth cleaning or dental services.

Ever since I was in high school, I have been going to Dr. Tu. I went to many other places before I found her, and I can honestly say that her practice is a place that still makes me feel welcomed and taken care of, even after so many years. She takes the time to explain things and always takes the extra step to care for her patients. Her staff members are very supportive and helpful. They are also very understanding of the different circumstances of patients.

I would give Dr Tu a zero for trying to pull a perfectly good tooth that wasn't broken and charge me for it and all the associated repair work. I had been going to this office for two years when they said I needed a new bridge. The bridge Dr Tu put on for $3,666 broke within a month. When I went back to get the bridge repaired, she said it broke because I had a broken tooth underneath the bridge. She gave me a written treatment plan which clearly called for the extraction of the tooth (See below) with another $4000 to $6000 in cost, to me, on top of the $3,666 for the initial bridge. She made an appointment to pull the tooth. I went to another dentist (a prosthodontist specialist) for a second opinion and they said the tooth was fine and not broken after 3D x-rays and the physical examination of the tooth. Dr. TU also put permanent glue on a temporary bridge so I could not get a complete second opinion without having the temporary bridge cut off. I recommend finding another dentist and not going here. The Dr Tu treatment plan to pull a good tooth that wasn't broken (confirmed by a specialist) is below..
