Patient advocacy has always been a passion of mine. My knowledge as a licensed insurance agent since 1996 gave me the tools to navigate the world of dental insurance when I entered the field of dentistry in 2002 after the birth of my second child.
I have lived in East Setauket, NY since 1998 and have the pleasure of seeing many of our patients around town. I have a 17 year old daughter entering college next year and a 13 year old son who keeps me busy on the weekends with Travel Lacrosse. I love summers on Long Island and you can find me at the beach or on a Stand up Paddle around Conscience Bay.
Danielle has been one of Dr. Halperns dental hygienist since 2013. She has been a practicing dental hygienist since 1996. Danielle is excited to be a part of Dr. Halperns team and loves the fact that Dr. Halpern is cutting edge yet conservative. Her favorite part of being a dental hygienist is building relationships with her patients.
Leigh Ann Pfeifer is a dental hygienist with 16 years experience. She graduated from Farmingdale University in 1999. She is CPR Certified and licensed to administer local anesthetic and Nitrous Oxide. Leigh Ann keeps current with continuing education classes and takes great pride in being a dental professional. Leigh Anns role as your Dental Hygienist is to provide comfortable care, a thorough assessment of findings, dental hygiene treatment planning, combined together with patient education and oral hygiene instruction. Leigh Ann takes great pride in being a health care professional.
Elizabeth was born and raised in south Louisiana. She went to the LSU Dental School in New Orleans where she graduated with her BS in dental hygiene. She has been a hygienist for 12 years. She is CPR certified and licensed to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. She is excited to be the newest member of Dr. Halperns team. Her favorite part about being a hygienist is the unique interaction with her patients. When she is not working, she is home withe her family, She is usually running from soccer to gymnastics with her three children.

I cannot say enough good things about PJ Smiles. As I child I had a dentist who did not use novacaine and that set me up to be phobic of any dental related procedure. For the last 8 yrs at PJ Smiles I've encountered quality care, professionalism, prompt service in emergencies from all the staff I have had contact with. Special shout out to Dr. Halpern, Danielle my hygienist and of course Michelle the receptionist who keeps it all together.,

All the staff at Port Jefferson Smiles are highly professional! I am someone who is highly anxious about dental work and they are always empathetic, caring, and make sure I am comfortable at all times. Dental work can be pain free! Dr.Karyn Halpern is truly one of a kind, she is a master in her field while being gentle and thorough in everything she does. I have had great experiences with Dr. Brandon Katz as well. He goes out of his way to make sure you're comfortable and is very thorough. Very talented and compassionate staff all around. I would highly recommend Port Jefferson Smiles!

Been to several dentists in my life and this is by far the best one. Dr Halpern has state of the art equipment in her office that amazes me every time and she's very thorough with explaining what is needed and why. My family has been going here for about 2 years and she's already fixed issues other dentists have made with our teeth! Danielle is exceptional with cleanings and Michelle is great with scheduling appointments and double checking out of pocket expenses in advance.

I'm not sure why this place has a 4.9 rating. I called about getting veneers and the office manager Michelle said well I'm going to be honest you should go somewhere else before even getting my background. Somebody else also wrote that they convinced her to go elsewhere- what a bizarre place?! How do they make money? Is this some kind of underground shady place that doesn't do dentistry at all. Then I asked if the dentist did root canals and she said nope only a endodontist does that. That's false- general dentists do them as well maybe not as many. I called her out on that and she said well I don't know what you're talking about. Such an odd place and odd manager. Not a good experience

As an update, this office is my favorite dentist I've been to ever. Every couple of months, I begin to dread going to the dentist, however every-time I step foot in this office. They are personable from the reception area, to the dental assistants and of course the Doctor. My anxiety begins to subside because these people genuinely do care about making these visits as easy for their patients as possible. Never have I felt more comfortable being in a dentist's chair. Thank you to Dr. Halpern and the wonderful team for making Dental Care more pleasant.

I am updating my review. I do not recommend this dentist. She put a crown on a tooth that needed a root canal. Went into pain a week after she put it in. In addition to that she wouldn't see me when I went into pain. Referred me to an endodontis because she already knew I needed a root canal. That dentist couldn't see me for several days. She still wouldn't see me to at least get me out of pain. If that wasn't enough I had an appointment for her to fill a cavity that no other dentist I've gone to since can find. I shutter to think what she was going to fill.

I am a new patient to Port Jefferson Smiles. Due to circumstances beyond my control, it has been a while since I've been to the dentist. To say that I am glad I am a patient, is an understatement. Everyone from Michelle at the front desk, to Danielle the hygenist, to Dr. Halperin, are so warm and welcoming. The office is beautiful and so high tech! I am referring multiple family members. I am so grateful that I found this office!

I have been going to Port Jefferson Smiles for many years. I would never, ever go anywhere else. The staff is amazing! Everyone is friendly, professional, and caring. You are made to feel welcome the minute you walk in the door! Michele, at the front desk, is one of the most pleasant people, I have ever met. She tries to accommodate your appointment to your schedule, fits you in if you have an emergency, and carefully, and clearly explains the billing. Danielle, the dental hygienist is the ONLY person on earth, who I will let clean my teeth. Then there is Dr. Karyn Halpern who is a dentist extraordinaire. There are no words to describe how talented she is. She can make a crown right there in the office, no temporary needed, no waiting for a lab. I have had a lot of work done, and there has never been any pain involved in any procedure. I know that no one likes going to the dentist, but oral health care is very important. I highly recommend this office, this staff, and most importantly, this dentist. Dr. Halpern amazes me with her work. You will always walk out feeling better, and looking better, than when you went in. Promise!
