Dr. Kyle Hammer loves dentistry because it provides the daily opportunity to interact with people within his community.Dentistry combines Dr. Hammers talent of art, problem solving ability and his inner desire to be an entrepreneur. Most importantly, he enjoys succeeding in these aspects in a fun-loving manner alongside his wonderful team of employees and patients.
Dr. Hammer earned a BS in Biology from the University of North Dakota and then completed his DDS degree in 2013 from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. While earning his degrees, Dr. Hammer was committed to both community service and academic excellence. In dental school, he volunteered and coordinated the Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinic in St. Paul. Dr. Hammer also acted as a student ambassador to prospective dental students and upon graduation, received the Academy of Osseointegration Outstanding Student in Implant Dentistry Award. Dr. Hammer is also an engaged and active member of the Northeastern MN District Dental Society.
Dr. Hammer met his wife, Dr. Christine Hammer, while in dental school and they got married in 2012. They are blessed with three children: Ben (4), Stella (4) and Luke (1). Dr. Christine Hammer is an Orthodontist in the greater Duluth-Superior area. When not working, Dr. Hammer has a passion for golfing, downhill skiing, traveling and hiking the beautiful North Shore trails with the family golden doodle, Murphy.
According to Dr. Wendy Peterson, the most enjoyable component of her career is that she gets to make connections with people every single day. Dentistry is the perfect blend of art and biology for her and most importantly, it is a helping profession.She offers a variety of experiences in numerous areas of general dentistry along with treating all ages and individuals with special needs.
Dr. Peterson earned her BA from Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY and her DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree in 2018 from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. During her academic years, Dr. Peterson was engaged in community service by volunteering at Saturday morning clinics, which provide free services to area children and Mission Lexington clinics. Upon her completion of dental school, she was awarded The Class of 1967 Award for her biological orientation, technical capability, and socially sensitivity and the Humanitarian Award for her passion for service.
Dr. Peterson is a Minnesota native having grown up in Osakis and is glad to be back in her home state. She lives in Esko with her husband, Joel, and their two children, Aiden and Zowi. In her free time, Dr. Peterson enjoys camping, cross country skiing, running, and hunting.
Dr. Ellie Bursch is committed to providing excellent dental care for her patients. She enjoys getting to know new people and being new to Duluth, is eager to get to know her new community. Together with her patients, Dr. Bursch enjoys creating individual treatment plans to meet each patients needs and achieve their best oral health.
Dr. Bursch earned her BA in Biochemistry at the College of St. Benedict. She then went on to the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry to complete her DDS degree in 2019. While in school, Dr. Bursch volunteered for events including Give Kids a Smile, Hope Dental Clinic, and a trip to Guatemala providing dental services for those in need. She also was a student ambassador for prospective dental students. Upon graduation, Dr. Bursch was awarded the Academy of Osseointegration Outstanding Student in Implant Dentistry Award.
After graduation, Dr. Bursch practiced in the metro area before deciding to move to the Duluth area with her husband, Levi. Duluth has always been a favorite spot for the two as they enjoy many outdoor activities and being even closer to skiing in Lutsen. Outside of work, Dr. Bursch enjoys reading, crosswords, running and playing with her dog, Henry.
A Duluth native, Dr. Nate Kotter is proud to be able to provide dental care in his hometown. Providing his patients with a happy and healthy smile is the aspect of dentistry Dr. Kotter finds most rewarding. He also enjoys getting to know each and every patient and making a positive impact within his community.
Dr. Kotter earned his BS in Biology from the University of Minnesota Duluth, graduating Summa cum laude. He then attended Marquette University School of Dentistry, earning his DDS degree in 2020. While attending dental school, Dr. Kotter volunteered for many community events, including Give Kids a Smile. He also had the opportunity to work at various outreach clinics.
Dr. Kotter met his wife, Mary, while attending the University of Minnesota Duluth. They later got married in 2017 along the North Shore of Lake Superior. When not working, Dr. Kotter enjoys traveling, hiking, playing hockey, and adventuring with his wife and morkie, Ember.

I've worked with all three dentists and they are fantastic. Knowledgeable, personable, and genuinely care about their patients. The staff is also fantastic. They'll even text and call if you need flexibility in your schedule. They communicate well and are a joy to work with. They make going to the dentist as easy as possible. Highly recommend.

I became a client May 2022, when my dentist retired. I travel two hours now for my dental work. I am so impressed with ease of scheduling, friendly helpful staff and wonderful hygenists and Dentist,. Dr Brekke is gentle, thorough and caring. They have the most current technology and even TV on the ceiling above the chair. They developed a care plan for me, and so responsive to my needs. I recently had an issue with an infected tooth. They fit me right in and provided the necessary treatment to address my issue. I can't say enough good things about Port City Dental on London Rd in Duluth. So thankful I chose them for my dental care.

Just had my first appointment with Port City Dental, and it was beyond the best experience I could have asked for. As a newer resident to Duluth, it can be hard to find new places to be a regular patient. For dentist offices, I have no doubt that Port City is the best. Deana, Laura Gene, all the front desk workers, and Dr. Brekke actually made going to the dentist enjoyable! Thanks so much! So happy to be a new patient!

Great Dental Practice. Have a whole family that goes here. Great work from simple cleaning, cavity filling to advanced restoration. They are friendly, gentle on your mouth, and do Great work. They are cost competitive in the dental market, and take most insurance plans. They are absolutely a great dental group to be a part of.

Staff was very friendly. I thought my appointment was for a cleaning and check up but there was many issues more time sensitive then a cleaning. I was a little disappointed that the doctor was so eager to refer me out before asking me what my thoughts were and the hygienist didn't relay them to him. I felt a little lost when I left but they were kind.
