I am so Happy to have found Sandy at their office. she is so sweet, kind and Gentle. I am not a big fan of any dentist office!! Lol. But she makes me feel very relaxed and comfortable. She is the best and makes sure that my teeth are always perfect.

I'v been a Pope Family Dentistry patient for many years and have had numerous procedures, I'm happy to say that I've never had a bad experience (considering it's a dental clinic) and have always been satisfied with the results of my visit.

My intention had only been to pay a bill yesterday. Timing, procedural components, Dr. Pope's unsolicited willingness to fit me into his schedule on the spur of the moment, plus his patience with our many questions aligned. I cannot over express my gratitude to this team. Thanks to every member of this staff from start to finish. Top level ...

Do you know why Pope Family Dentistry (PFD) has such high reviews? Because they make you feel like FAMILY..(Truth). I had a very horrible experience before going to PFD. They are unique, kind, professional, caring, very attentive, etc. I could continue with the positive adjectives but I digress. Meeting these folks were a blessing, and the experience really made my day better. PFD was recommended to me by a friend. Money and time well spent. Southern Hospitaliaty at its best. It is like coming home because they are so welcoming. Pardon this being so long, but seriously Stoked and Blessed to Meet Such Good People. I served 30 years in the Army so I know just a little about character traits and professionalism. PFD is Second To None!!! They are Truly AWESOME!!!!!!

I had my teeth cleaned by Stephanie A. She did a great job in cleaning my teeth without prodding my teeth or gums too much as I've had many times from other places in the past. She was also very friendly and asked if I had any questions or concerns about my teeth. I do not usually do these types of surveys, but wanted to go out of my way to show my gratitude.

I found Pope Family Dentistry about 10 years ago from a Groupon or Living Social. For several years I used them and liked the service for cost. After my regular health insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program [BCBS FEP], not dental), the cleanings were about $16. The male Dr Pope had self-published novels and cds and stuff for sale-- kind of weird but whatever floats your hobby boat. In spring of 2017, I went there and I was early in a pregnancy and I denied x-rays. I had a miscarriage about a month later (Yes, this is important). Fast forward to 2022, I decide to go back to them. At this point, I have added vision and dental supplement to my BCBS FEP. I talked with their front desk when setting up the appointment about my insurance and was told that it was covered, how the process works, and sent them a copy of both my insurance cards to their Gmail email account. I thought "oh, this is great and easy". Since it had been five years since my last visit, they had moved from their location in a strip mall to a nice, new building and brought on additional dentists. At the appointment, I double-checked insurance again. During the appointment, I had to have the most awkward conversation about miscarriage and infant-loss with the hygienist because they had it in their notes from five years ago that I was pregnant. The hygienist brought up my non-existent 4-year-old which I then told her about the miscarriage which she then brings up someone else she knows miscarriage. *THIS* was the whole reason I stopped going to them in 2017- I didn't want to relive that horrible experience with strangers. We make it through the cleaning. Then a dentist spent a ~90 seconds looking at my mouth and x-rays (I know; that's normal). I asked him how to possibly fix a broken front tooth that I had asked about back in 2016 (no real conclusion there; maybe using some filling material to fill it in). I wanted to know how much I would pay if I had the tooth filled, I asked the desk when checking out and they pulled in the insurance person to have her give a quote. I was told that my insurance would cover it; insurance would send a check and then I would pay Pope Family Dentistry. I was surprised when about 6 weeks later I received a check from BCBS FEP dental for an amount that was less than the bill I received from Pope Family Dentistry (there were also things included that I wasn't aware of that they did for a cleaning and x-rays). I do not have some sort of small insurance or "cheap" insurance (In 2021 I was 35 and pregnant and had all kinds of testing done and was induced- I paid $0 for all prenatal visits, labor, delivery, and recovery). I am not the only federal employee in north Alabama with BCBS FEP dental. After talking with them on the phone, I know they have many customers with FEP/FEP Dental. The practice had their treatment scheduling person handle this issue, so it is insulting that there isn't someone in a more official capacity handling these customer service issues. TL;DR The difference between the check from the insurance and the bill from Pope Family Dentistry is $22. It is not the $22 that bothers me. This is what bothered me: 1.) The use of a free email service without encryption to request personal information. It also just appears unprofessional when a place is using a Gmail account. It is $6/month to have business Gmail account with your own domain. 2.) It's 2022-- don't talk family planning with strangers. You do not know someone's history. 3.) Lack of transparency with cost/billing and performing services without approval from the customer. I understand that knowing if they are in-network is on me. But they should have provided an estimate prior to performing services vs saying "yes, we take that insurance and it is covered".

Top notch practice! I'm always in my appointment on time, the hygienists are super sweet, and each dentist I've worked with has great "bedside manner". Definitely recommend!
