Rishi Popat, DMD, DMSc. is a North Central Phoenix native and Ivy-League trained orthodontist. He received his specialty Certificate in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics at Harvard University and concurrently received his second Doctoral degree in Oral Biology from Harvard Medical School located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Popat was the only American dentist accepted to Harvards internationally renowned orthodontic residency in a class of five. Prior to completing Harvards dual degree four-year orthodontic residency, Dr. Popat practiced general dentistry for two years where he provided comprehensive dental care to help the underserved population in downtown Phoenix. Throughout his professional career as a general dentist and then as an orthodontic specialist, Dr. Popat treats every patient as if they are his family.
A published researcher, lecturer, leader and inventor, Dr. Popat constantly thrives to raise the standards in the orthodontic and dental profession. He currently serves on the editorial review board of several journals and professional boards and is a faculty member at Lutheran Medical Center teaching orthodontics to pediatric dentists. Dr. Popat enjoys lecturing around the world, inventing various medical, dental and orthodontic devices and is currently a consultant for an innovative orthodontic technology company. Dr. Popat has been featured on the front cover of the Arizona Republic newspaper, numerous times in the North Central Phoenix News, National Public Radio (NPR) and publications by Harvard University Press. He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontist (AAO), Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontist (PCSO), American Dental Association (ADA), Arizona Dental Association (AzDA), Central Arizona Dental Society (CADS), Harvard Society for the Advancement of Orthodontics (HSAO), and the Harvard University Alumni Association of Phoenix. Dr. Popat is proud to serve on the board of the Madison Education Foundation. Dr. Popat is truly committed to all of his patients. He is very passionate in developing and applying new technologies to deliver exceptional care and embracing the community. He is ingrained in his neighborhood and still resides in the same house he grew up in which is around the corner from Popat Orthodontics. In fact, Dr. Popat enjoys riding his bike to work which he proudly displays on the bicycle rack. In his spare time, Dr. Popat enjoys spending time with his wife Bansi, daughters Aashna & Aaria, parents (Bipin & Anila) and his brother and sister-in-law (Rimal & Kavita). He enjoys running on the Murphy Bridal Path, indulging at Churn ice cream to satisfy his sweet tooth, and trying new local restaurants along the Central Corridor.
Dr. Irma Iskanderis originally from the beachy state of Florida. She graduated with honors from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania with a bachelors degree in Philosophy and a minor in Biology. Despite how much she enjoyed quoting great philosophers of the past, however, Dr. Iskander knew her life calling was to serve others in the field of dentistry. Prior to attending dental school, she was involved in laboratory research investigating the possible links between periodontal disease and other illnesses such as heart disease. This experience, which led to a 1st place award in student research at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, and to the 2006 Colgate Research Award for excellence in the field of research, solidified her passion for periodontics and for advocating gum health to the general public.
After obtaining her DMD degree, Dr. Iskander completed her periodontics training at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. It was there at her residency where she wrote and collaborated on research topics related to periodontics, leading to publications in academic journals such as in the esteemedJournal of Periodontology. She also became Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology. After her residency, Dr. Iskander started working in private practice in Washington State for a few years. Afterwards, she moved down to sunny and dry Arizona to be with her husband and has made this state her home ever since. Outside of work, Dr. Iskanders absolute favorite things to do are reading books (with an annual goal of finishing 100 books a year), bicycling, cooking Sunday dinner, and planning around-the-town adventures with her husband and their two young children.
After more than 50 years in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery,Dr. Peter A. Bassettstill enjoys the rigorous demands of his profession and the necessity of keeping up with the newest technology. He approaches the technical challenges as an art, as well as his passion and profession. The advances in technology have made surgery more predictable and therefore increased patients awareness and acceptance of treatment. With the advent of the internet, social media has become more attuned to what is available in the field of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery and, likewise, what the patient anticipate the results to be. Dr. Bassett attends as many seminars and training classes available in his specific areas of expertise especially those of implantology and bone grafting techniques to maintain his cutting edge understanding of the newest technology available.
As such, a team approach to many sophisticated treatment plans, utilizing multiple disciplines such as orthodontics, is necessary and leads to a total team effort in achieving the patients expectations. Dr. Bassett enjoys the camaraderie and the opportunity of working with Dr. Popat and the team at Popat Orthodontics & Madison Pediatric Dentistry. Outside the office, Dr. Bassett enjoys spending time with his family and friends and enjoys mountain biking, hiking, fishing and the occasional round of golf.

Needed replacement retainers ASAP because mine had cracks and holes in them. I had trouble finding a place to do them because most wouldn't accept patients who didn't originally have their braces or Invisalign done there. However, Popat Orthodontics was a complete savior and I was able to get my impression done and pick my replacement retainers in the same day! Also worth mentioning that they charge much less for the set than other orthodontic offices. All the staff was extremely friendly! Super happy and impressed with the service!

I had a severe case due to gum disease, but Dr. Popat teamed up with another dentist and hygienist to handle me with care. With a methodical and thought out plan, Dr. Popat executed perfectly. I was extremely nervous, but Dr. Popat and his office is so personable and friendly it got easier and easier every visit. This is hands down one of the best dental experiences I ever had and would recommend this office to anyone!!!!

The whole staff is super friendly and informative from the moment we walk in. Appointments are quick and easy. Even though my daughter is anxious due to a previous office, she is very comfortable, especially since she is addressed directly so she is aware of what is going on. Dr Popat is the best Orthodontist in Phoenix! When caring for children, it is easy to be skeptical of the information shared by pediatric dentists and orthodontists, at least for me. We have been visiting Dr Popat's office for over five years and I trust him with my children and their treatment plans 100%! Even if you have another Orthodontist in mind, I recommend you at least schedule a consult with Dr Popat before you commit. Dr Popat and his team are absolutely amazing! It is hard not to love them! And, he has always done what is best for my children and there dental health, including not starting treatment before it is needed. Not many are this honest.

If you want a straight-forward, genuine orthodontist who actually cares about patients, then Popat Orthodontics and Dr. Rishi Popat is the place for you & your family. From the very moment I stepped foot into the practice, I was greeted with a smile and treated like I was family with Dr. Popat personally greeting all patients in the waiting area. It was a seamless process of filling out required forms and my comprehensive examination was very detailed. Dr. Popat was terrific in explaining to me precisely what the challenges I had and his expert advice in a treatment plan. I felt very comfortable and at ease with Dr. Popat's extensive professional background as well as confidence in knowing that he would do what needed to be done to help me. They provided me with a transparent treatment plan and bottom line quote. I told Dr. Popat that I didn't want to go anywhere else and that I trusted him to help me. It's not easy to get full orthodontic treatment again (I had two full series of braces when I was an adolescent) when you're in your mid-30s but I'm so very happy/relieved that Dr. Popat will be managing my orthodontic care. Thank You Popat Orthodontics! 05/13/2022 Update: After 2+ years, my braces came off today! At my appointment, my braces were removed with the glue taken off tooth by tooth along with impression molds taken for my retainers. Pictures and x-rays were also taken. What a feeling to have them removed and a fixed smile! I can back later in the day and had my new retainers ready for me. Dr. Popat helped me with my new retainers and information regarding the knowing use as well as tips for care/maintenance. I also had some remaining glue on the inside of my top teeth where I had "buttons" so Dr. Popat addressed them to satisfaction. He also was kind enough to offer ongoing support and guidance for any future dental-related decision making. I cannot thank Dr. Popat and the amazing staff at Popat Orthodontics for a wonderful experience these 2+ years. I highly recommend Popat Orthodontics to everyone!

When it comes to having any kind of dental work done, everyone looks for the best. Specially when it comes to your kids. We had an orthodontist look over our kids teeth and plans for braces. I wasn't comfortable with them so we needed to find another place that we could trust. So thankful we found Dr. Popat and his staff. He explained everything very clear and made the process effortless. The kids look forward to appointments because they feel comfortable and the process is easy. I would highly recommend Dr. Popat and his staff. Keep up the good work. You guys are awesome!

Allow me to pile on the 5 star reviews for the one and only Dr. Popat - I see Rishi as an adult patient as do both of our school age children. I can't say enough nice things about Dr. Popat as a dentist and as a person. From the outside, all the superlatives are there: the Ivy League-education, the successful practice (now in two locations) and the centrally-located Phoenix office is unobtrusive with its famous pink motif. My kids like they can watch movies during cleanings. I like I can do my paperwork online and scheduling is never a chore. Mostly though --- I think Dr. Popat (in collaboration with his wife and co-founder Bansi) is a human's human: friendly, humble, curious, confident. I am historically no fan of going to the dentist (I am waiting to meet someone who is!) but for the first time in my entire life I walk into the dentist with a smile on my face because I know I'm going to get good service but I'm also going to be comfortable and my kids are going to be stress free. The Popats are active members of the community (seriously, they are everywhere), they live and work in the area and I sense they truly love their practice, their patients and the Valley. We're proud and fortunate to be associated with the Popats.

After taking my 5th grader to a less than welcoming shady dentist who said she had a cavity, Popat Ortho went above and beyond our expectations! Not only do they have a cute board welcoming new kids, the office is full of happy amazing people who made us feel very comfortable and cared for. From fully explaining what they were doing to me and my kiddo, to creating a possible treatment plan down the road, the full and comprehensive care (along with clear explanation of what my insurance covered) we received was nothing less than perfect! My daughter got an awesome little gift cup at the end along with her free toothbrush, and she was sad that she didn't have to go back for six months! Thank you for being someone we can trust Popat Ortho!!!
