Dr. Eric Berkner found he had a passion for helping people from a young age, and channeled this passion through his studies of dentistry. Originally from Virginia, he has made Oregon his home since falling in love with the Pacific Northwest after studying at OSU and then OHSU for his doctorate. Dr. Berkner started Ponderosa Dental Arts in 2013, after a 2-year fellowship with a mentor in Missoula, Montana.
A member of the Oregon Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and American Dental Association (ADA), Dr. Berkner is active in the community, and is constantly furthering his education on his patients behalf, to ensure that the best and most modern solutions are available to them.
Dr. Berkner loves being able to help the wonderful patients in his practice, but still enjoys finding time to reach out to the less fortunate to provide pro-bono work through a variety of charitable organizations.
Dr. Calderon graduated in 1994 from Oregon Health & Sciences University School of Dentistry. He prides himself on holding the highest standards of care in the dental field. He is a highly skilled family dentist who specializes in general, restorative, pediatric, and cosmetic dentistry. He is a member of several dental associationsand maintains his high level of excellence through advanced courses and education.
Dr. Calderon has made it his responsibility to stay on the cutting edge of dental technology and training, due to the continuously evolving techniques and information in the dental field. He believes in working with each person to bring his patients the smile they truly desire. He feels this is essential for a successful practice.
Dr. Kooning has worked in several dental settings, including corporate dentistry, and brings a unique perspective to procedures and treatment planning. Its most important to him that you have a conservative, thoughtful and honest assessment of your current condition so that you can make the best possible decision(s) about your care. He is also dedicated to the idea that the pace of treatment is dictated by you.
Dr. Christopher Kooning is a Portland native. He was raised in Lake Oswego and is a proud graduate of La Salle High School. He attended Oregon State University and received his dental Doctorate from the Oregon Health Sciences University in 2009, in the footsteps of his father, Dr. Jan Kooning. During college and dental school he served for six years in the United States Army Reserve.
In 1994, Amie graduated Oregon Health Sciences University with a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene. She loves being part of the Ponderosa team because she has the opportunity to provide thorough, quality dental hygiene services to the teams deserving patients.
Pam has been in dentistry since 1986 and started as a chairside dental assistant. After working as an assistant for almost 20 years, she decided to expand her education. In 2004, Pam graduated from Mt. Hood with her Dental Hygiene degree. Pam has been with Ponderosa Dental Arts since 2020 and enjoys getting to know the patients as they come in and answering any questions they may have.
Gina has been in the dental field for 20 years. She just moved to Oregon City with her husband, daughter, and beloved dog Jade. She enjoys watching her daughter play softball. She also loves to cook and try new recipes.
Kaylynn has been in the dental field for 7 years. She enjoys making her patients smile and building meaningful connections. When not in the office, Kaylynn loves spending her time outdoors in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and playing with her cats.
Katlynne has been in the dental field for 4 years. Her favorite part of the job is getting to know patients and making personal connections. When she is not in the office, she enjoys going camping, playing with her dog Jax, and watching movies.
Carey has been in the dental field since 2007 and enjoys getting to know the patients as they come through the door. She especially loves the interactions with different types of patients and helping them improve their confidence through dentistry. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her extended family exploring the Pacific Northwest hiking and traveling.
Built in 1950, our charming 3,500 square foot facility is conveniently located near the Hilltop Mall, on Molalla Avenue. With plenty of parking, a spacious lounge area, and a number of treatment bays, we try to ensure that every part of your journey to Ponderosa Dental Arts is as hassle-free as possible, and that wait time is as minimized as possible. Ponderosa has been my dentist choice for a few years. Amie, Gina and Carey are incredibly helpful and caring. My teeth feel like silk after getting them cleaned. The dental office is modern and clean in a great location. They are extremely organized and reliable on scheduling and appointment reminders. Dr.B is young, energetic and accommodating to individual patients needs. If you are looking for a local feel with proven professionalism and caring understanding, P.D.A. is a fit!

Dr. Berkner and his staff are all amazing! Everyone is professional, kind, empathetic, and personable. After a previous poor dental experience, I'm so thankful to have found them. I highly recommend Ponderosa! I used to hate and avoid going to the dentist until I started coming here. I was welcomed as a new patient about a year ago and have only had great experiences and no longer fear going to the dentist! The whole staff is always so kind and takes great care of my teeth (:

The staff at Ponderosa Dental are great! Dr. Berkner and Gina are kind, patient and thorough in their work. They take time to explain the process to me. And I love my cleanings by Amie. She is personable and professional and often shares helpful tips for preventative care. I highly recommend them for dental care!

I am not happy with this place. I was talking to them about implant for my one missing tooth, and for some reason I end up with the bridge, I have no knowlegde how bridge being done till they started it grinding my teeth, they end up connecting my bridge to my wisdom tooth and on my other teeth. Now after a year that wisdom tooth need to be remove that means I spend more than a thousand bucks for nothing. Now I end up with one missing teeth and 1 with crown. I feel like I just flush my money in the toilet. Not happy with them.

Absolutely love Ponderosa! My 3 year old son gets excited about the dentist because the staff is all so friendly and welcoming. We have been coming here since his first visit and will continue to bring our son here. Really great atmosphere and super welcoming everytime we visit.

I have had poor experiences in my dental history. Dr. Berkner was once again a new dentist to me after a disappointing and expensive prior dental procedure. I felt I was just processed and once they got the money, I was on my own. Ponderosa Dental Arts was welcoming, listened to me and addressed my issues. He saw that my $10,000 plus implants were secured improperly! I needed a crown and he explained the procedure clearly and today he took care of it! It was painless and each step was explained to me. The assistant was lovely and attentive. Now this is what I have been trying to find for 40 years! I highly recommend Ponderosa Dental Arts!

Been coming here for over a year and love it. The entire team is super welcoming and kind. Dr. Berkner and Pam are straight shooters and I trust their judgement. I used to be not look forward to going to see a dentist, but this practice makes me it a positive experience.

Took my 3 year old son here for his very first visit! Exam was better than expected. They were extremely kid friendly and personable. I highly recommend them for anyone close to the Oregon City Area. More than enough goodies to take home for him to enjoy. He's looking forward to his next visit!! Thanks for the great first experience so close to home.

Avoid - they will cause harm and then refuse to see you We saw this dentist a few times, until my wife started experiencing jaw and neck pain, and we scheduled a visit to get it diagnosed (and to have a cleaning). The dentist refused to see my wife to evaluate the symptoms, and instead they opted to proceed with a deep cleaning -- ignoring the painful condition she was in and request for diagnosis. The next day she was in agony, and when we tried to get them to see her for an emergency. They refused, claiming this was a previous condition, and not fitting her into the schedule for over two weeks out. A different dentist quickly diagnosed a serious infection the next day, performed tooth-removal surgery and put her on an antibiotic treatment, which resolved the issues. Ponderosa dental appears to only care about making easy money off cleanings, even when it harms the patient. They will refuse to diagnose you. They don't listen to women who share their symptoms, and they refuse to treat patients whom they previously damaged. They will literally cause you harm, take your money and wash their hands of it. A despicable practice that should be avoided.

I came to Ponderosa from a recommendation from a coworker/friend. After 2 years of my previous dentist not being able to correctly fix a cavity and filling, I sought help from Dr. Berkner after over a year of increasingly worse tooth pain, and temperature sensitivity. I am clinically very very difficult to get numb, and no doubt present a challenging case, but the team effort between the staff and Dr. Berkner - within a couple visits I finally had the relief and permanent fix I was needing, but apprehensive to get. It's a day and night difference, being able to eat and drink with no pain whatsoever, I only wish I had gone to Ponderosa Dental sooner, but now I know, and am happy to have found a Dentist & Staff in whom I have confidence in, based on their treatment and care. Subsequently I had my first dental cleaning as well after the initial care, and it was as I would have expected, painless, professional, and a relief. I highly recommend trusting Dr. Berkner and his wonderful staff for all your dental needs, trust me your mouth will thank you. :-)

I was a new patient recently and everyone in the office was so professional. Dr Berkner was knowledgeable and very informative. The office was very up-to-date with modern equipment and has a very comfortable atmosphere. The entire staff was very friendly. I had a great experience and will be coming back regularly!

The best experience with a dentist I've ever had! I had a wisdom tooth removed and didn't feel a thing!! Was in and out in 45 minutes! The staff was excellent! I will most definitely be back!

Fantastic Experience. This was a wonderful visit from reception, to hygienist, to doctor. The entire team was friendly and professional. My work was completed quickly and efficiently. I was given a price quote BEFORE work was done with an explanation of my coverage and what my out of pocket expense would be. I was able to get in in a timely manner. I highly recommend this office to anyone seeking a new dental office.
