At its practice locations, primary and specialty services including medical, dental, pediatrics, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, optometry, allergy treatment, nephrology, podiatry, gastroenterology, and dermatology are provided. Health education and nutrition counseling are also offered.

Our dedicated staff is justifiably proud of our history, pleased with our progress, and enthusiastic about our future, stated Vaughn Thomas, Chairman, Board of Directors, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center.

BronxCare Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center has a long leadership history in the community health movement. Many of its Trustees are from the community, and most of the employees live in the Bronx. They continue to uphold and further reinforce the BronxCare Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Centers tradition of community service and excellence in health care.

Since its beginning, BronxCare Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center has strived and succeeded in fulfilling its mission of responding to the health care needs of community residents, regardless of background or financial circumstances.

Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Allergy, Behavioral Health, Cardiology, Dermatology, ENT, Gen Surgery Consult, Dental, Eye Care, Nutrition, HIV Pre- and Post-Test Counseling, HIV Testing, HIV Rapid Testing, Podiatry, Urology, Physical Therapy, Gastroenterology, Social Work, Neurology

The Department of Dentistry continues its focused effort to address the integral interrelationship between systemic health and oral health. Dr. Ingrid A. Dowrich, Chairman of Dentistry, has continued to promote the vision of the previous leadership and is striving to expand services in response to the growing dental needs of the Bronx community, with an emphasis on access to care and workforce diversity. The Departments efforts to facilitate an interprofessional approach to the overall health of its patient population are ongoing. In 2018, more than 95,000 visits were provided at six convenient locations across the Bronx.

Dental faculty and residents continue to participate in a five-year Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant focusing on the key role of good oral health in maintaining their patients overall health and wellness. Currently in Year Four, the project is being directed to interprofessional training. A unique component of this effort is the incorporation of Nutrition Education into the dental visit. Nutritional education and counselling are provided as part of an important initiative in conjunction with the James Beard award-winning chef, Amy Chaplin. This initiative includes an interface with the Garden of Eden community organization, the BronxCare Outpatient Network, and the dental department to reinforce concepts of oral health and nutrition.

The Dental Departments main clinical site, BronxCare at 1775 Grand Concourse, located one block north of the hospitals Concourse Division, was expanded by six chairs and currently has a total of 45 dental treatment rooms. It includes adult, pediatric, orthodontic, and oral surgery services, with modern registration and waiting areas. The facility features 17 adult treatment rooms; an Oral and Maxillofacial suite that includes seven fully equipped surgery rooms, with an expanded recovery area and dedicated nurses station; 11 orthodontic treatment areas; and 10 pediatric suites equipped with state-of-the-art chairs that have a child friendly design.

In addition to the main location, the BronxCare at Third Avenue practice and the practices at the BronxCare Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center, BronxCare Medical and Dental at Poe, BronxCare Ogden Family Medical and Dental, and BronxCare Special Care Center provided more than 9,800 visits. These visits are part of a continuing effort to reach patients who have not visited the dentist during the previous year.

Dentistry has evolved from patients coming in on a semi-annual basis for a cleaning and check-up to being recognized as a health care delivery system which has a pivotal role in maintenance of overall general health. With dental-related illnesses, such as infections and pain, among the most common causes of ER visits, the Department of Dentistrys clinical sites are prepared for all aspects of care. These sites have the most advanced equipment, including an i-CAT imaging unit that provides high definition 3D diagnostic images for ultimate treatment efficiency.

A wide range of services are available at all dental practice locations. Endodontic, periodontic, orthodontic, and restorative procedures, including crowns and bridges, root canals, treatment of gum disease, and dentures are provided. The Oral and Maxillofacial surgery specialists in the department are widely acknowledged for their expertise in all types of dental surgery, from tooth extractions under IV sedation and emergency treatment of facial injuries to innovative implant procedures. Cosmetic dentistry, including tooth whitening, bonding, and veneers are all utilized to brighten patient smiles. Pediatric dentists have successfully established the concept of a dental home, beginning at age one, to treat oral health problems in children. Orthodontists are also placing aesthetically pleasing braces to ensure the best tooth alignment. There are many treatment options available for children with complex dental problems, including oral rehabilitation under general anesthesia and conscious sedation office visits.

Securing grant funding continues to be a priority. This year, the department is one of ten programs nationally designated for the unique five-year HRSA/Dental Loan Redemption Faculty Development Grant for full-time dental attendings. The Ryan White Dental Reimbursement Grant also continues to provide important assistance in addressing the oral health needs of patients with HIV/AIDS.

BronxCares General Practice, Pediatric Dental, and Orthodontic residencies are nationally recognized for their outstanding dedication to serving the underserved population and underrepresented minorities. Dental residents are also receiving training taking on leadership roles in bringing oral health care to these populations.

'Our Dental Department has an outstanding record of accomplishments, and this is due, first and foremost, to our loyal patient population who continuously entrust us with their care. Additionally, our clinical and non-clinical stafffaculty, residents, administrative leadership, and support staffstrive daily to provide the highest level of care to our patients in a welcoming environment.' stated Dr. Ingrid Dowrich, Chairman, Dentistry.

I needed a filling for a slightly cracked tooth. I made an appointment here and they referred me to 1775 grand concourse and made an appointment there. When I went to my appointment there I was told they don't do fillings only surgeries and removals, and I should've made an appointment here. They were shocked to learn I did make an appointment here and was referred to the wrong place by this location. They were extremely apologetic to the point that they made an appointment then next day at the same time as my mother's for this location. When we arrived here my mother was told she was in the wrong place and needed to go to 1775 grand concourse for a filling because they don't do fillings here. Despite the fact that she had both gotten fillings here before and had made the appointment to get fillings here. They told her they could fit her in today if someone cancelled. Truly the most unorganized medical experience of my life. Don't go to this place

This is the worst hospital I've ever been to , compared to Brookdale and Woodhull hospitals in Brooklyn Bronx Lebanon is the worst. The only Albuterol- steroid treatment I got was in the ambulance going to the hospital. I sat in the E.D. waiting for a nurse or doctor to see me , and when I finally saw a doctor he listened to my lungs and discharged me, no medication or prescriptions. I got better treatment at Brookdale hospital the worst hospital in Brooklyn.

I had to be admitted into this hospital recently and I have received excellent care. Sometimes I may had to wait and be patient during my stay but they always made sure I was okay and was in no pain even when I first arrived there in a insane amount of discomfort. The doctors seem to be very caring in making sure you leave in better health then when you first arrived in. And most nurses her cared for me was very caring and sweet and made me feel comfortable even though I fear hospitals.

This place is absolutely ridiculous. Appointments are backed up by 3 months! God forbid you have a serious issue, imagine waiting 3 months to address it? Find a better place.

My review is for the nurses and staff they are very rude ! And so unprofessional. Not sure what they go through but they shouldn't take it out on others . I love Wendy zapata she's my kids pediatrician however I hate dealing with their nurses and front desk staff . I had to check one of them because I'm a parent to a patient and shouldn't have to be treated like a child . They need to re evaluate their staff !

They are under construction at this time. Its chaos in here the registration desk is in front next to all the construction and noise, then you have dental, peds, eye dr and Medical in a small space. My mom is elderly and uses a walker, there was no seating space or social distancing and security was rude. Some of the nurses are rude as well and the drs move slow they also are doing the vaccine here and its just constant confusion here.

The dental receptionist are very nasty and rude. If you are 10 mins late after the 15 mins they are quick to reschedule your appt. if you wanna be seen anyway they tell you don't know how long we will wait. While the waiting area is empty. I am moving to Florida and they could care less I had pain. This is crazy

Most of the nurses there are the worst they are rude in person and over the phone. They don't contact you to informed you that your appointment has been cancel or change you come to know when you show up. It's ridiculous. If it wasn't because of Dr Barbara McLean who is the best doctor I have ever had I would have change. But then again all of this centers have the worst assistance a human being can get.

If I could post a picture of the 2 recipients that have the nastiest attitudes I've ever encountered I would! You think the 1st time ok had a bad morning, 2nd time ok they had a bad afternoon but every time you come its an attitude there's a problem! I love my dentist and the people who help him but the front desk the people who are the front line should do better and be better! Let's not even get into trying to schedule an appointment smmfh. On hold and transferring you to the wrong place or putting you on hold for nothing only to have an attitude when they come on the phone. They should really screen who they have in the front of the office!

My sister went in for her scheduled GI procedure. Upon checking in, she was asked if she had gotten the COVID-19 vaccine. When she said no, it obviously become an issue. She was then 5old she had to wait until 5pm to see the doctor. But not before one of the receptionist starting spreading the word that my sister was unvaccinated.
