Dr. Courtney Ray Mittelmark is a Board-Certified Orthodontist who specializes in Braces and Invisalign for children, teens and adults. She went to dental school at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) where she received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD).
While at Harvard, Dr. Ray did research in bone cell biology in order to better understand tooth movement on a molecular level. She enjoyed living in Boston for 4 years and became very involved in the school and the community.
Dr. Michelle Stepanek is a dedicated orthodontist who specializes in braces and Invisalign for children, teens and adults. Dr. Michelle earned her undergraduate degree from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After gaining her Bachelor in Science degree at UCLA, she attended dental school at University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP) in San Francisco for her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree where she graduated top of her class! She continued her studies at UOP, gaining her Master of Science in Dentistry and Certificate in Orthodontics at the residency program.
Dr. Courtney has developed a positive reputation among her peers as a worthy orthodontist with an incredible bedside manner. Numerous dentists have referred patients, and dr. Courtney has even had the honor of even treating their own children and family members, as well as their staff, as they have strong confidence in dr. Courtneys precise treatment methods.
Dr. Courtney and the PVO team are all active members in the Los Angeles community. The team is present at local events, such as YMCA, Westchester Arts and Music Block Party, Playa Vista Elementary School BooFest, the Playa Vista Farmers Market, Career Day and many more. PVO provides support and sponsorships to youth activities in the area and contributes to the Westchester Schools spots teams. Being a part of the community is a priority and an honor for Dr. Courtney.

After graduating from Harvard, Dr. Courtney moved back to California for her orthodontic residency at the University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP) in San Francisco. She received advanced training in all aspects of orthodontic treatment, including traditional braces, Invisalign, lingual braces, phase I interceptive treatment, surgical orthodontics and complex multidisciplinary treatment. Dr. Courtney was awarded first place in the Invisalign University Challenge for the best multi-disciplinary case. After winning this prestigious award, she was invited to present her treatment outcomes at the Invisalign Orthodontic Summit in Las Vegas in 2012.
Also during her residency, Dr. Courtney did research on cleft lip and palate genetics and served as a dental and orthodontic specialist on a cleft lip and palate medical mission trip to Udaipur, India. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Courtney received a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD).
Dr. Courtney underwent an additional written and clinical examination to become a Board Certified Orthodontist by the American Board of Orthodontics. She is committed to excellence and providing the highest standard of care.
Dr. Courtney takes pride in providing the best possible care for each and every patient in a fun and friendly environment. She will always take the time to thoroughly explain all treatment options and give her professional, honest and unbiased recommendations for what is best for each individual patient. Dr. Courtney loves living in sunny Southern California. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and being active outdoors. She loves hiking, biking, skiing, running, yoga, pilates and living a healthy lifestyle. Most of all, she loves spending time with her family, friends, her husband, Mike, and their puppy, Leo!

Excellent service, they have been very accommodating, always responsive. It can be difficult to schedule appointments since so many patients are looking for the after school times but that's the nature of orthodontics. The technicians and orthodontists have had a great manner with my kid and made a difficult process manageable.

This is a very efficient and organized office. My only complaint is that I am not filled in after my child's appointment as to what was done or how things are progressing. My child is called back at the beginning of her appointment and parents are asked to wait in the waiting room. This is totally fine, but I wish somebody would then come out to communicate how things are looking after her appointments! I generally have to ask to speak to somebody for some sort of recap. Otherwise great!

Terrific care and extremely helpful and pleasant staff -- both my kids have had great experiences with beautiful healthy results. The office is also very responsive via email, which helps a lot with scheduling and questions.

This place is truly amazing! Both Aja and the Doctor made us very comfortable at the time of our visit, and clearly explained everything we needed to know. The office is extremely clean and well maintained, looks out of a magazine. Thank you Both!

The office staffs are all very friendly. Love the music in the waiting room, fun and upbeats. Pea - office administrator is very pleasant and helpful. Dr. Jennifer (Dr. Courtney's associate) was very professional, very sharp and on point. I was very impressed during our first visit.

I was so excited to come here and meet Dr.Ray with my consult, especially given all the great reviews. I filled the intake form in and took time off work to come down and do the consult. I have a bonded retainer on my lower teeth that I explained on the phone when I first called that I needed to be replaced. The hygienist was absolutely lovely when she did my scans, but the orthodontist (Dr.Ray's replacement) was odd. She came in and explained what I would need (a stronger bonded retainer- hooray!) but then when I asked if she had a sample of the wire she would use... she disappeared!!! Literally never to be seen from again! Then an office manager (?) came in to tell me that I cannot be helped at Playa Vista Orthodontics because they don't do bonded retainers for folks who are not their patients. (Note- this would have been helpful on the intake form or the initial phone call!!) It certainly made me feel unwelcome (am I not their patient if I am there?) and I let her know that it was super weird that the orthodontist ran away from me and didn't explain this to me herself!! The office manager explained that this is because she is covering for Dr.Ray. All in all, a big disappointment and waste of my time. If you have a bonded retainer and need help- please go elsewhere!

I initially came to this office when it was Dr. Luther and his partner. This was way back in 2005! I never forgot how friendly the staff was. After I stopped wearing my retainer, I didn't like how my smile looked so here I go round 2. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and it's one of the reasons why I came back! I know the end results are so going to be worth it! Dr. Ray is a perfectionist which I love. And I hope this will be my last time straightening my teeth.

Very good first impression. Beautiful, clean office with amazing views. My daughter and I experienced a very professional and inviting energy. Savannah loved Dr. Ray and I appreciated how she broke everything down for me and answered any question I had. After Savannah's initial examination Ms. Pea explained everything regarding fees and payments, exuding no pressure, and answer every question I had. Thank you PVO.

After Dr. Courtney and Aja got wind of a miscommunication, Aja reached out and cured my problem within 24 hours. I actually felt like I was dealing with Amex because she listened, was empathetic, and immediately cured my issue logically. I would feel very confident recommending this group.

It is an absolute delight from the time I walk in until the time I leave Playa Vista Orthodontics. Every single person on staff from Dr. Courtney to the receptionists are friendly and professional. Having been through orthodontics with my son years ago, its now my turn. I can tell you this is a wholly different experience - For the much better. I never feel like it is a factory every procedure is fully explained.
