He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Nevada State Dental Association, the Northern Nevada Dental Society and the Progressive Study Group.
Dr. Mark Handelin is a Reno native and graduated from the University of Nevada Reno with a biology degree in 1996. He then worked as a fisheries biologist before returning to school and graduating Salutatorian with his dental degree from the University of Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco in 2001. Dr. Mark practiced general dentistry in Reno prior to returning to San Francisco to pursue orthodontics. He returned to UOP to earn a Master of Science in Orthodontics in 2005. He has practiced orthodontics exclusively since 2005 with Drs. Pitts.
He is a member of many professional groups in dentistry including the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and the Nevada State Dental Association. He has been past president of the Nevada Orthodontic Society, Northern Nevada Dental Society, and is currently in line to become president of the Nevada Dental Association.
Dr. Mark has followed Dr. Toms footsteps and became an Associate Professor at the University of the Pacific and teaches part-time to the graduate orthodontic students. This passion for learning and education has him actively involved and presenting various orthodontic concepts and topics to many local and national dental and orthodontic study groups including the Sierra Society for Dental Excellence (Seattle Study Club), the Progressive Study Group, the P2 Study Club, the Sierra Nevada Study Club, and the Silver Sage Study Club.
Dr. Handelin has two lovely young girls, Keelyn and Laurel, and an exceptional wife Catie. They enjoy spendingtime together and playing outdoors as much as possible. In the spare time that he finds, he enjoys fishing, hiking, photography, and home improvement projects.
