Dr. Philip J. Pistolas, D.D.S is a Member of the American Association of Functional Orthodontics. He is also a charter member of the Functional Freedom Corporation. He has published numerous articles for the international publication, The Functional Orthodontist. He has been a key note speaker at the National AAFO meeting. He has recently been elected to a six member national advisory board for the Functional Freedom Corporation (FFC). Dr. Pistolas is a current member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Pistolas was born and raised in Dover, New Jersey. He graduated from Delbarton School 1971. After graduating with a B.S. in Biology from St. Vincent College in 1975, he continued his education at NYU Dental School, where he graduated in 1979. He then received his specialty in Pediatric Dentistry from the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center of Brooklyn, NY 1981.
Dr. Pistolas has been in practice in Sparta since 1985. He decided to pursue his orthodontic training by attending orthodontic seminars. Almost all of his post graduation training since that time has been devoted to orthodontics. He favors the Functional Orthodontic school of thought.
Before his Sparta office opened its doors he was employed at the Family Dental Center of Rockaway, New Jersey. During that time he also worked for two years for an Orthodontist in the area two days a week. At that office he received a great deal of his Orthodontic training seeing an average of 80 patients a day. There, his responsibilities included diagnosis, treatment planning and orthodontic adjustments.
After he opened his own office, Dr. Pistolas decided to pursue his orthodontic training by attending orthodontic seminars. Almost all of his post graduation training since that time has been devoted to orthodontics. He favors the Functional Orthodontic school of thought.
In March 2005, Dr. Philip J. Pistolas was awarded the AAFO Clinician Of The Year Award. This has been given to only 19 members over a 20 year period. Dr. Pistolas is only the second Pedodontist to receive the award.
Our talented, friendly staff is here to make your child's visit a pleasant experience. All dental procedures are done with the parents in the room, providing a comfort level to the child as well as allowing the parents to participate and observe the procedures. The greatest care is taken by the doctor and his staff to make the visit as pleasant as possible.
Lora started her dental career as a dental assistant before graduating from Hygiene school. She has been a Hygienist since 1985. She loves to work with children and is very talented as well. Lora is very pleasant and the kids love her. She will clean the children's teeth as well as do sealants. She also teaches everyone how to brush and floss.
Kathleen is a dental assistant. Her experience includes general dentistry, orthodontics, oral surgery and pediatric dentistry. She has great attention for details and organization. Kathleen enjoys working with people and creating smiles and laughter.
Roe attended Bergen County Vocational Technical High School where she studied dental assistant. She then continue her studies at Fairliegh Dickinson University where she earned her Registered Dental Assistant degree. Her experiences includes general dentistry, orthodontics and pediatric dentistry. Roe is also a yoga teacher and enjoys creating a calm and stress free enviroment for our patients.

Terrible person. This doctor does not have skills to work with children, very rough and not only with words but with his hands. My child's experience yesterday was terrible, mine, extremly frustrating watching this dentist mistreating my child. Saying things like "I dont care" and putting his hand down in an angry manner was only a few things. Treatment is not done and I won't come back. Horrible costumer service from his end.

My daughter had many dental issues, and Dr. Phil was amazing. We have been going to Dr. Phil for over 8 years. I cannot say enough great things about him and everyone in the office. So of course when your child's smile turns out like the my daughter's did, the only thing you can do is refer as many families as you can! Not only has my sister and also my best friend changed their dentists, but they love going to him as much as I do! Thank you for all you've done!
