Dr. Thomas K. Broadbent graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1981. After practicing in West Jordan for two years, he moved to West Valley in 1983 and started Pioneer Valley Dental on the campus of Pioneer Valley Hospital. In 1986, Dr. Taylor World joined him and began the multi-doctor office that has evolved to our present facility. In 1989, the dental facility relocated to the Harmon Building in West Valley City where it is presently located, having undergone a major expansion in year 2000.
In dental school, Dr. Broadbent was particularly interested in the principles of occlusion and the interrelationship between the jaw joints (TMJ) and the occlusion of the teeth. He studied under Dr. Brendan Stack of Fairfax, Virginia and Dr. Peter Dawson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He learned to associate headache and neck pain with the alignment of the teeth and all these years later, still delights in relieving a patient's head and neck pain when it is associated with the dental and jaw relationships.
In 1989, Dr. Broadbent was one of the first dentists in the Salt Lake area to become trained in the placement of single tooth endosseous implants, adding to his interest in surgical procedures such as complicated third molar (wisdom teeth) extractions which he was already providing his patients. He continues to be excited to be able to provide today's much improved implants for patients with missing teeth and he loves to witness the joy of providing a new tooth for one which was lost, or securing a loose fitting denture, or any of the other uses of dental implants. Dr. Broadbent continues to keep current on the latest implant technologies through continuing education at Whitecap Implant Learning Institute with multiple continuing education courses. He has also been a Whitecap teaching mentor.
Dr. Broadbent practices comprehensive family dentistry with an eye for the cosmetic value of a person's smile, having studied extensively with the Dick Barnes Excellence in Dentistry learning center. He treats children to senior citizens and enjoys watching families grow and develop together and values the relationship with the patients he has treated over the years.
When Dr. Broadbent began the concept of the multidisciplinary family and cosmetic dental practice involving multiple dentists, he did so with the idea in mind that it requires multiple dentists to have available convenient hours for patients. Since dental problems can occur anytime, it was his desire to create a facility which would better meet the needs of all family members including working parents. This was facilitated by creating a partnership of several dentists who, between them, can be available six days a week with extended office hours in the early evening. Pioneer Valley Dental has become a patient centered practice with several doctors each possesing different skills, language abilities, and interests. This provides an environment of caring where referring a patient to an outside specialist is a rare occurrence. Most dental treatment is provided without the inconvenience of sending the patient to a specialist, unless of course a unique problem occurs where a specialist is appropriate.
Dr. Broadbent has had regular engagements on a local radio station about dentistry, and has been to Peru twice providing dental services in that third world country. He is married to the former Daryl Ruth Mann and has four children.

Dr.Smith is the best!! I have been going to him for 30 years. He has taken great care of myself, my 3 children and my husband who by the way was deathly afraid of dentist prior to Dr.Smith. The dentist and assistant were excellent. I felt comforted and cared for for the entirety of the visit. I get very nervous when it comes to visiting the dentist, so I asked if they would just keep informing me about what they were doing as the procedure went on. They were very accommodating and happy to do so. My latest visit was probably one of my best dental experiences I've ever had. It was quick, painless, and very chill. (Massive thank you to Campbell, Dr. Baugh, and the amazing staff at the counter too!)

Wow, what an experience! I went to pioneer valley for quite a while and always had a good experience but when I moved I tried to find something closer. But this past month I have had an awful experience with another dentist so I wanted to go back to pioneer valley. I saw Dr Smith and he was so patient to listen to my situation. He ended up replacing the other dentist work and you could tell that he was way more thorough through the entire process. Overall he was great and so nice and I don't care how far I have to drive, if I live in Utah I am going this dentist. The assistant was also awesome. I didn't catch his name but he seemed to be able to anticipate everything that was needed. He was awesome too.

I am 100% impressed with the service and care that Pioneer Valley Dental offers its patients. The dental care itself has been excellent, and beyond that the other staff in the office are incredible! Debbie at reception is the epitome of kindness and accommodation, and Nick in billing has been more understanding and helpful through insurance snafus and issues than we could ever have wished for. When you go to Pioneer Valley Dental you can know for sure that you will be taken care of - whether we're talking about your teeth or being valued and appreciated as a patient!

I am usually skeptical of places with so many high ratings but I decided to give this office a try because it was close to home in a firmiliar building. The staff was extremely friendly and the exam rooms were very clean and not too cramped. The thing that put them over the top was the quality of the work done. Dr. Blackhurst does quick and excellent work. And he didn't seem to mind my questions at all. Everyone there made an effort to create a welcoming environment to keep patients long term.

The best service! 100% recommend because of multiple things. I moved to WVC and needed a new dentist, so not exciting. And just googled a dentist with high reviews and chose Pioneer Valley Dental. The first thing I loved is how after I called and set up an appointment, I got a text about filling out information before I go. The questions I was asked were so thoughtful, like "are you worried about coming to the dentist and what would make your visit better?" I bet more dentists are doing this but this is the first time I experienced it. Then when I went, seriously everyone was just so welcoming and happy to see me. And not in an awkward way, just genuine. Anyway, the service itself was fantastic and I've just never had such a great experience at a dentist!

Dr. Curtis Smith at Pioneer Valley dental is truly one of the absolute best! My family has been going to him for 20+ years and I won't consider going anywhere else. Dr. Smith is a perfectionist and takes the time to make sure that everything is done correctly. Everyone in his office is genuine and kind! My kids look forward to every dentist visit - it's always such a good experience for them, and for me!

I have been going to pioneer Dental for over 25 years love the staff, and the dentists have been excellent. Even moving to American fork I still make the drive because they have not just earned my business, but make me feel like family even after some of my family have passed, they knew about them and are so loving with memories share about their experiences an memories of them. It would be easy to go on. I'm happy to go to Pioneer Dental well worth the time and the knowledge that they bring to you within the Dental world is unmatched. You guys ROCK!!!

I have been coming to Pioneer Dental for about 4 years and love this Dental Facility and the group of employees. All very professional and very courteous. Normally they take what my insurance will pay. Jared has been a great Dental assistant that I have had from my first appoint. My Dentist, Austin is quite a person. Very kind. I never dread going to the Dentist.

I was SOOOOOOOO nervous due to the fact that I had to do 2 root canals. My previous experiences with a different dentist put a fear in me that it was going to be extremely painful. I went in and the lovely dental assistant prepared everything and helped me feel relaxed. The dentist came in and they were so professional and the procedure so smooth that I felt no pain and they explained everything that I needed done. We also have Delta dental insurance and this is great with this office. I recommend Pioneer Dental to everyone. They also have such an amazing staff.
