Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is, in fact, a dental specialty, and one that, in many ways, bridges the gap between medicine and dentistry. Your Houston oral surgeons are the physicians of the mouth and jaws. Our scope of practice includes the surgical and non-surgical treatment of most diseases and abnormalities of the mouth, jaws, and face. This includes everything from removal of teeth to the treatment of facial trauma and jaw reconstruction procedures.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons first attend a four-year dental school after 3-4 years of undergraduate college training. Upon completion of dental school, a hospital-based residency of at least 4 years is accomplished. This includes experience in medicine, general surgery, and other oral surgical specialties. Because administration of general anesthesia and intravenous sedation is such an integral part of our practice, we train for 4-6 months in hospital-based general anesthesia, doing nothing but intubated general anesthesia for non-dental cases. Due to the necessity for such advanced training, some oral and maxillofacial surgeons also complete a medical degree.

My experience was absolutely the best! I had Oral surgery and no pain after the procedure! I had pain medicine but didn't have to take "any"! Everything is healing perfectly! I would highly recommend Dr. Koo and Piney Point. Thank you, thank you!

Great experience. Everyone made sure I was prepared for surgery and all set for post surgery as well. Got me in and out. Super convenient, very easy. All the staff were super welcoming and made sure I was fine in the recovery process as well.

Dr. Koo is amazing! I needed three implants and the whole process was so smooth. He is extremely professional and thorough, and I had zero issues. I hope I don't need any more implants, but if i ever do, rest assured I will happily go back to Dr. Koo!

Fantastic experience. Dr. Koo and the rest of the staff are extremely professional and I was amazed by how quickly I healed following my wisdom teeth removal. Very little pain and swelling.

I had a problem with my gums and had surgery by a special gum doctor. However, a year later, inflammation occurred. While looking for another doctor, I met a special doctor, Mr. Goo, and had surgery, and now I am completely cured. Also, I am very satisfied with the regular check-ups as they provide meticulous treatment. Dr. Koo is the best doctor. thank you

They did a great job on my wisdom teeth extraction. Everyone was very efficient and helpful, especially the admin assistants. It also seemed like they see a lot of people in a day, and yet nearly everyone was upbeat at the end of a long day. Dr. Koo is a man of few words, so don't go expecting a long conversation. I didn't mind that, but some might.

I had 4 total appointments with Dr. Koo and his wonderful team to get a biopsy of my jaw for suspected lesions where my wisdom teeth used to be. The staff was incredibly friendly and patient, explaining every possible avenue for a potential procedure based upon the xrays and symptoms. Luckily, the biopsy revealed that the lesion was benign! All credit to Dr. Woo and his team for a pleasant biopsy procedure and post-op treatment; my healing went smoothly without any issues. I highly recommend them and will definitely return if I encounter any future oral issues.

I had wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Koo and would definitely recommend him to my friends! He answered any questions I had about the procedure thoroughly during my consultation visit. My procedure was very smooth and less painful than what I had expected, due to the IV sedation anesthesia. Medication to assist with my recovery was sent to the pharmacy 2 days before the procedure to ensure I would have it. Recovery took a couple days. Doctors office checked on my recovery by calling the following day, which was appreciated! My last visit was a follow-up appointment to check on my recovery process.

Doc Koo placed two implants when my dentist couldn't perform the surgery because of my gum condition. I had 1 consultation visit and my actual surgery felt like it was done in 5 mins (I was fully sedated). The pain after surgery also wasn't very bad at all, I didn't even have to take the pain killer doc Koo subscribed for me. Doc Koo also had me visited the office 3 times after the surgery to make sure my implants are strong enough before I will get the crowns installed. Very happy with my implants.

I felt that my experience here was quick and easy. I was referred to Dr. Koo for wisdom teeth extraction. The process from consultation to the actual procedure was done well. The staff was friendly and informative. They really care about the patients coming in. They send out reminders of upcoming appointments which I thought was a nice touch. I really like my time there.

In this office they are excellent people with a very nice treatment to the public, the assistants are very attentive and Dr. Koo did an excellent job with my daughter (he removed her 4 wisdom teeth) no complications, and those thermal blankets made my daughter feel like at home, I recommend this place 100 percent

I was referred to Piney Point OMFS for my wisdom teeth removal, and honestly, my experience here was really great. Dr. Koo and all of the staff members were very kind and helpful. I felt at ease and was well informed during my consultation all the way up to my procedure and post-op care. Everything went smoothly and there was surprisingly little pain for me after the procedure. I definitely would recommend people to come here for their oral procedures.

I had a great experience as a patient of Dr. William Duncan Shepard few days ago. The quality of the service was of the highest level. My case was actually had complications, but Dr. Shepard did everything smoothly and carefully. The employees were nice and the office and operating room were cozy.
