Pine Island Dental is a second-generation family practice started in 1984 by Tom's father, James A. Zurfluh, DDS. After graduating from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine in Charleston South Carolina, Dr. Tom Zurfluh joined the practice in 1993. He is a member of all major dental associations including the ADA, FDA, ECDDS, AGD and ICOI. Pine Island Dental is a state-of-the-art dental office with computers, digital radiographs and digital panorex.
Dr. Tom Zurfluh is involved in community services throughout south Florida. Through Community Smiles, he volunteers his services one day a month to provide dental access to the underprivileged population. He also serves as secretary, and sits on the Board of Trusties. He volunteers at the University of Florida Hialeah Clinic as a Courtesy Faculty, instructing International dentists in their advanced general dentistry training.
Dr. Zurfluh chose Dentistry because he has a passion for helping people, enjoys working with his hands and finds improving peoples health fulfilling. Hes a family man with a wife and four children. Born and raised in south Florida, Dr. Zurfluh enjoys offshore fishing and diving as well as spending time with his family and friends.
Kristy Dettmann has been at Pine Island Dental since 2014. She graduated high school in 2005, and college in 2010 as a Dental Assistant. Her dedication and commitment to the practice lead to her promotion as Office Manager.
Kristy was born and raised in south FL. She has one daughter, Riley and loves the outdoors. Kristy enjoys spending time with her family, her horses and likes to fish. She is passionate about helping people and loves her career choice. Shes a motivated, personable professional with years of leadership experience and continues to show dedication in her position. She is best at solving problems with grace and transparency.
Betty is a Certified Dental Assistant from Broward college with excellent communication and customer experience skills. She takes pride in making patients feel as comfortable as possible and ending their visit with a bright smile.
Shirley has been with Pine Island Dental for over 20 years, and a Hygienist for 25+ years. She was born and raised in South Florida and has four children. Shirley is gentle, caring and dedicated to helping patients maintain their dental health.
Kailyn joined the pine island dental team in March of 2013. Born and raised in South Florida she has over 10 years of experience with dental insurance, front office tasks and administrative work. Shes a smiling face when you walk through the door, with a kind heart and bright smile. She is a problem solver and truly enjoys helping patients fully maximize their insurance benefits to decrease there out of pocket expenses. When Kailyn is not helping patients, she enjoys all outdoor activities and diving is one of her favorite hobbies. She enjoys every part of her job and all the friendships that have stemmed from this amazing work environment.

It's took me years to find a dentist that I felt comfortable with until I found Dr. Zurflah. I trust that he's telling me what I need without selling me treatments that aren't necessary. Shirley, his hygienist, as well as the rest of his staff, are friendly and professional.

Best Dentist EVER! I was nervous and the Dentist knew it. Dr. Zurfluh was understanding, caring and gentle. This service was impeccable. The Dentist explained everything prior to my procedure. I had no pain no problems even the next day I was fine. Thank you all for your professionalism.Thank you for hiring a delightful caring staff. From the minute I walked into the office the Assistant at the front desk welcome me with a big smile.. The Assistant who assisted the doctor and the Dental Hygienist who cleaned my month one ago both was Profesional, kind and she did an amazing job. My cleaning was on point. I have been a patient of the (the father) Dr. Thomas Zurfluh since the beginning of 1997. The gentle dentist Dr. Thomas Zurfluth (his son) took over the practice when senior passed away. I explained to him that I always had problems getting to know my dentist. That I needed a gentle dentist to handle my dental problems. I found that Dr.sThomas Zurfluh and son were just what I was looking for. They were both gentle and caring. I could not ask for anything more. Dental Hygienist, Shirley is a wonderful Hygienist, very sweet and very caring and very gentle. A wonderful addition to the office.
