Dr. Pickering stays on the leading-edge of orthodontics. His continues his education as a participating member in the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, Tennessee Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, 2nd District Dental Association and the Tennessee/Kentucky Damon Study Club.
He gives back to his local community by volunteering with groups and associations including the North Knoxville Rotary Club. He speaks often to civic organizations on various aspects of braces, cleft lip and palate procedures and general dentistry. He is a regular guest speaker to dental assistants, dental hygienists, and the Departments of General Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Dr. Pickering is the Orthodontic Consultant for the Childrens Special Services branch of the Knox County Health Department and the cleft lip and palate team associated with Park West Plastic Surgery. He is also a consultant for the Cleft Team at East Tennessee Childrens Hospital, which is a member of the American Cleft Lip and Palate Association.
Dr. Pickering and his wife Stephanie enjoy the great outdoors by hiking and playing tennis. After graduating from Knoxville Catholic High School, his children, Suzanna and Walter, are pursuing their passions.
Dr. Reem Hallal has a passion for orthodontics and patient care. She enjoys transforming her patients smiles while getting to know them along the way. Dr. Hallal was born in Damascus, Syria, and moved to the United States at the age of one. She was raised in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Hallal earned her BS in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She then went on to earn her doctoral degree in dentistry from the University of Detroit Mercy.
She graduated at the top of her class and was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honor Society of Dentists. After a year in the field as a general dentist, Dr. Hallal went on to earn her certificate in orthodontics as well as a Master of Science in dentistry from the University of Detroit Mercy. She practiced orthodontics in Metro Detroit for six years priorto moving to Knoxville.
Dr. Hallal maintains her skills on the leading edge of orthodontics. She has vast experience in using 3D technology to improve efficiency and accuracy in orthodontic treatment. She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Hallal and her husband, Johnny, a practicing Gastroenterologist, live in Knoxville. She enjoys reading, cooking, fashion, and travel. She recently moved to Knoxville and is enjoying exploring all the beauty it has to offer.

We are just starting the process but the office staff makes you feel so comfortable. They are very informative & thorough. Very happy we chose Dr. Pickering for braces for our kids.

I am originally from Texas, but I am currently living in TN for college. Finding temporary healthcare options has been difficult, so when my permanent wire retainer started to come undone, I started to stress. I called Pickering & Allen and they were able to work me in quickly and made the process extremely easy and peaceful. Their staff and Dr. Allen were extremely kind and helpful! The office was nice and clean! Great experience! Highly recommend!

Pickering and Allen was amazing! They got me through Invisalign super quick with no extra adjustments needed. Everyone on the staff is so friendly. They get you in within 5 min of showing up every time. I have recommended Pickering and Allen to many and will continue to do so!!

They have been absolutely wonderful to our family. I have fought stage 4 cancer the whole time and there have been days I had to cancel last minute. They never once said anything hurtful they knew I couldn't help it! They are a good Christian group who love what they do and it shows. I give them 100 stars

I needed my permanent retainer fixed and they got me in the next day! I was in and out in 30 minutes. Sara, Dr. Hallal, and the rest of the staff were so friendly and very welcoming! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Team was very helpful with my visit today. I needed my retainer fixed that I received from a different orthodontist from back home in Texas. The team was able to get me in within a day and the results are fantastic! Katie was a rockstar for the visit. :)

I would give Pickering & Allen Orthodontics 100 stars if I could. There's no words to describe the exceptional quality of care that I received from everyone there! My case was super complex, but, Dr. Pickering, Dr. Allen, and their staff were definitely up for the challenge! From the front desk with Ms.Gina, to the dental chair with Ms. Kim, every single person there treated me like a friend, and not just a patient. There were times when I felt like my treatment was hopeless, but, Ms Kim always encouraged me to trust the process. Because, of the complexity of my situation, I had to make extra trips to the office for additional care on numerous occasions. The entire staff were always very compassionate to my needs, and made sure I was taken care of immediately. From, simply needing a bracket fixed to needing an emergency appointment for Cold Laser Therapy to ease my pain, they made me a priority. Their level of patient care, state of the art equipment, and knowledgeable, friendly staff make them Knoxville's best Orthodontic group! I'm so thankful they were there for me during my long journey with braces. After 20 years of not being able to enjoy food or smile after a severe car crash, Dr. Pickering, Dr. Allen, Ms. Kim, and everyone on their team got me to the finish line! This has been a long painful ordeal, but, because of Pickering & Allen Orthodontics, finally, I can smile with no pain and no shame! They truly gave me my smile back! I visited due to an emergency issue with my permanent retainer. Office staff were very friendly, and I was scheduled in the day after I called. My retainer was dealt with quickly and efficiently. Both Dr. Allen and his assistant were wonderful.
