Susan has been in this practice since 1990 and in the orthodontic field for almost 30 years. During this time, she has seen the creation of countless beautiful new smiles! The transformative power of orthodontic treatment is something Susan feels strongly about and is especially gratified to watch this process in adults, who realize its never too late to achieve better dental health and find their own great smiles.
As Insurance and Financial Coordinator, Susan enjoys meeting and interacting with patients and their families and sharing their orthodontic journey. She loves being part of this amazing team and working for Dr. Phillips, whose commitment to excellence and sincere, caring dedication to his patients are unsurpassed.
Susan has three wonderful sons, two awesome daughters-in-law, and one adorable, perfect grandson! She shares her home with Molly, a once-feral kitten and occasional troublemaker who has become a great companion.
Susan loves spending time with family and friends, enjoying sunsets at the beach, singing in her church choir, and traveling to unfamiliar places. One interesting fact about Susan is that her oldest son, Randy, is the lead singer for the heavy metal band Lamb of God. Its fun to occasionally see patients come in the office wearing a t-shirt with the band name and be recognized as a Rock Mom.
Parents are usually relieved to learn that early childrens orthodontics in Wilmington, NC, at Phillips Orthodontics is NOT about getting braces, but assessing their overall oral health and alignment of their smile, jaw, and face. Your childs early evaluation is not simply for aesthetics but will help guide the growth and development of your childs jaw and teeth preventing more serious problems later.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your childs initial orthodontic evaluation occur by age 7 the time when adult teeth are erupting. At Phillips Orthodontics, we evaluate erupting teeth to detect issues such as a possible overbite, open bite, crowding, or gummy smiles. We can tell if your child will benefit from early treatment, as many potential problems may not be visibly apparent until prevention is too late. Beginning treatment at this optimal time not only ensures the greatest result but also means less time and expense down the road.
According to our Wilmington orthodontist, treatment at this early stage may not even be necessary. However, it is especially important to schedule a screening with our board-certified specialist, Dr. Phillips, if you notice any of the following conditions in your child:
