Dr. Thomas graduated from the Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, and since then, has participated in numerous advanced dental courses and seminars, including graduating from the Postgraduate Course in Esthetic Dentistry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry.
Dr. Thomas holds the prestigious honor of being the first African American dentist in the United States and abroad to have achieved Accreditation status by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. In addition, he is one of only three dentists in the entire state of Iowa Accredited by the AACD, a credential considered to be the highest level of competence in cosmetic dentistry in which less than four hundred of the more than 8,000 members of the academy have achieved.
Dr. Thomas is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Esthetic Dentistry and a member in good standing of The Academy of General Dentistry. While he thrives on continually learning and bettering his craft, he equally enjoys sharing his expertise with peers in the dental field and has been asked to present at dental seminars across the country. His most recent work centers around the topic of smile design and the use of photography in the dental office.
Being in West Des Moines allows him to offer a Midwestern, small-town, friendly atmosphere while still being able to leverage big city technology. In the twenty-three years Dr. Thomas has been in private practice, the area has grown and prospered and he is grateful for the many opportunities he has had to serve his community. He was honored to be chosen as the featured cosmetic dentist for a Des Moines local news station who helped two deserving individuals change not only their lives, but their smiles.
A graduate of Illinois Central College, Dianne hasmany years of experience in the dental field. Before joining Dr. Thomas practice, she worked for over ten yearsin a general dentists office and a periodontal/ orthodontic office. She enjoys the opportunity to help patients and answer any questions they may have.

This place is a great environment, Mrs. Diane is very communicative and friendly. Dr. Thomas cares for his patients and always make sure you are satisfied with every procedure. Iowa Center For Family And Cosmetic Dentistry is definitely a place you should check out!

Everyone was so polite, very nice and helpful. It was a very relaxing atmosphere and experience for first time there and loved the people that work there. Dr Thomas was awesome and office was family friendly.

Ever since coming here, I am no longer afraid of the dentist. YES, even as an ADULT! I used to get major anxiety and it was never a pleasant experience for me. Now that I come here and wanting to bring my kids, I actually look forward to seeing my dentist!

I went to multiple places to inquire about porcelain veneers, then I came across Dr. Thomas.I could tell he cares about his patients and is extremely knowledgeable. He makes you feel like you are a friend and wants to make people happy. I was nervous about the process, but him and Diane at the front desk made it the best experience I could have. I am so happy with how my teeth turned out, and he has completely transformed my smile for my upcoming wedding. Thank you so much!

I have had horrible dental experiences throughout my life. I was looking for a new dentist and came across Dr. Thomas. I am so happy I did. He did extensive dental work for me and it turned out beautifully. I was very nervous as I have had some very painful experiences. He and his staff put me completely at ease. I did not experience any pain and I had no problems after he was completed. He truly is an artist and total professional. Would not dream of going to anyone else.

I've been a patient of Dr. Thomas since 2013 and have received excellent dental care by him and his staff over the years. Amanda, the dental hygienist, always has my teeth looking great after each cleaning and does a through job of catching any problems since my last visit. I'd been wanting to improve my smile and began with the Essix Invisible Alignment system in 2016 to correct some misaligned upper and lower front teeth. I'm currently in the process of getting a full smile make-over and wouldn't trust any other dentist to perform this procedure. Dr. Thomas is one of only three dentists in the entire state of Iowa to receive accreditation from the AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry). Additionally, Dr. Thomas uses Haupt Dental Lab, one of the premier dental labs in the country, to fabricate the crowns and veneers for his smile make-overs - proof of his commitment to perfection. Dr. Thomas' dedication to customer satisfaction is unparalleled. There have been several times he's made himself available during off business hours to address dental issues I've had. He has patients from well out of the Des Moines area and even out of state who rely on him for their dental care. I cannot say enough good things about the Iowa Center for Family and Cosmetic Dentistry staff.
