By opening Petrey Orthodontics in Somerset, Kentucky, Dr. Joseph S. Petrey is carrying on a tradition of optimal orthodontic care started by his father who treated residents of Southeastern Kentucky for the past 35 years.

Dr. Petrey received his undergraduate degree from Centre College in 1999, completing a double major and degree qualifications in both biology and history. He went on to earn a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Kentucky in 2001. He received his dental training and doctorate from the University of Kentucky in 2005 before completing a Master of Science degree at the University of Kentucky in 2008 and earning his certificate in Orthodontics. He has been in practice since 2008.

To stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in the field of orthodontics, Dr. Petrey maintains active membership in numerous prestigious professional organizations such as the American Dental Association, the Kentucky Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the Kentucky Association of Orthodontics and the South Central Kentucky Dental Association.

Dr. Petrey delivers national lectures to members of the American Association of Orthodontists on topics including orthodontic mini implants and temporary anchorage devices. He also teaches continuing education courses on TADs, lingual orthodontics and the treatment of impacted canines.

Away from the office, Dr. Petrey volunteers with Healthy Smiles 2010, Seal Kentucky, the University of Kentucky Alumni Board and the Central Kentucky Boxer Rescue, from which he and his wife, Jamie, adopted their two boxers - Fitzie and Dickens.

Dr. Petrey and Jamie are outdoor enthusiasts. They spend many of their summer weekends boating on Lake Cumberland with friends and family. In the fall they can be found hiking with their two boxers (Fitzie & Dickens). That is, if they are not at a UK football or basketball game cheering on the CATS!

Dr. John Newcomb is a Board Certified Orthodontist who was born and raised in Kentucky. He completed his dental and undergraduate degrees at the University of Kentucky. He received his orthodontic training from the University of Louisville. Dr. Newcomb has been in practice since 2007 and enjoys treating children and adults of all ages.

He is a certified Invisalign provider and holds many professional memberships including the American Association of Orthodontists, the Kentucky Association of Orthodontists, and the Kentucky Dental Association.

His time in Louisville didnt sway his loyalties much as he is an avid UK basketball and football fan. He spends his free time with his wife, Shera, and their two girls, Laura and Harper. He looks forward to meeting each and every patient and treating them as he would his own family.

Dr. Ralph D. Petrey was the founder of the Corbin and Hazard offices. He was a 1970 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and a 1974 graduate of the UK Orthodontic Residency Program after spending two years as Dental Director for the Federal Dental Program for Leslie, Knott, Perry and Letcher counties.

Dr. Petrey served the communities of Southern and Southeastern Kentucky providing dental and orthodontic care for 37 years. The legacy of his patient care carries on with his son, Joe, and partner, Dr. John K. Newcomb.

Ralph was an avid pilot, classical guitar player, snow skier, and loved the lake. He also loved nothing more than his large gatherings of family and friends, his spectacular Fourth of July show and Christmas gatherings. His love, care, and guidance will be greatly missed by his family friends, employees and patients.

If you so choose, donations may be made in memory of Ralph to one of this favorite charities that provides care for underprivileged children worldwide with cleft lip and palate abnormalities, the Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org).

Amazing staff and beautiful building. Always nice and gets you in. We have been going when my husband was young and his father took care of him and now my daughter goes. We live a bit away but always gets us in. I appreciate how great they work with kids and teenagers! It's a bonding trip for me and my daughter and have such an amazing time when we go! Thank you Petrey Orthodontics for everything you do!

They are so great with kids we drive from Bowling Green Ky since no one will do braces there and Etown was full. There is a bit of waiting in lobby ...its peaceful and everyone is respectful. Appointments aren't that far out highly recommend.

The wait time at this office is ridiculous. Everyone seems nice however to a busy family, having to come in to a office with no available seats after a long day and wait over an hour past your appt time is aggravating to say the least.
