Personal Dental Office & Orthodontics - General dentist in Los Angeles, CA

Dr. Mark Nelsongraduated from top-rated USC dental school in 1982 and in his practice, developed a reputation for being a perfectionist and a true dentist, both inskill and at heart. His patients travel from Santa Barbara, Orange County and other parts of Southern California, because they know they can 100% trust his diagnoses and his stellar work. When asked about his career choice he states, I must admit that I got in the right profession. Because of the early need to acquire new knowledge and the daily requirements of diagnosis and treatment planning; I get to use my intellect. At the same time, I have to use my hands, much like an artist, and I also get to interact with people. How great is that?

Dr. Nelson spends numerous hours studying many aspects in the field of dentistry, both domestically and internationally, so that he can have a well-rounded perspective of industries advancements and latest technologies. Over the last 6 years, the majority of Dr. Nelsons continuing education has been focused on bonded porcelain restorations (veneers, onlays, composites), Oral Facial Pain and TMJ disorders. His expertise in these areas allows him to create smiles which are not only beautiful but also functional and prevents patients from having bite and facial joint problems common after multiple dental restorations. Dr. Nelson also works with patients who suffer from TMJ problems and headaches related to TMJ.

Dr. Nelson has learned over the years that while his passion for dentistry is high, he must balance it with outside activities. He is an avid reader, plays guitar and sings, loves to hang out at the beach, bike ride and body surf. Dr. Nelson also recently begun training in Krav Maga, an Israeli self-defense and martial art, for which he quickly developed a passion. He enjoys a vast variety of foods and wines, loves different genres of music (Rock and Roll is still his favorite) and loves the company of his friends.

Dr. Afshin Salamati received his dental degree from UCLA in 1996. He continued at UCLA for an additional three years to specialize in periodontics and dental implant surgery and in 1999 received his specialty certificate and MS (Master of Science) degree.

Dr. Salamati has practiced Periodontics and placement of Dental Implants in Beverly Hills since 2003. He opened his Beverly Hills practice in 2003, and has maintained a full-time private practice limited to periodontics and dental implants. After graduating, he was asked to teach at UCLA and continues to do so. During his time at UCLA, Dr. Salamati has been involved in numerous laboratory and multi-center clinical trials.

Shady business. Say they are taking new patients. Will not do cleaning at time of consultation. Then at consultation they say it's a three month wait for a cleaning. Do not go here!

Been their patient for the past 3 years and only have great feedback. Dr. Nelson, unlike other dentists, has never tried to suck money out of my pocket for unnecessary procedures. I come in for a check up every year, and so far he hasn't told me I need to get anything done. The hygiene techs are also great and attentive to my teeth sensitivity.

So, today I had my routine cleaning with Mrs. Ruby, and it was a pleasant experience. From the ladies at the front desk to my cleaning to my follow-up scheduling, everything was done with great care, professionalism, and with an inviting demeanor. Ruby was Great! She made an otherwise uncomfortable routine feel painless and even familiar, as her down-to-earth persona relieved any anxiety, and her knowledge and expertise dispelled any doubt. Thank you for taking pride in what you do, and doing it with an elevated sense of compassion and genuineness. You don't always find that with everything going on right now.

Personal Dental is the best of the best. I have been to several different dentists and finally found an office that is consistent, reliable, kind and very knowledgeable. I have been coming here for about 4-5 years and every time has been a great experience. I'd highly recommend them for anyone looking for an incredible dental office.

I came here for the first time for a dental exam and cleaning and had a wonderful experience. They took me in right away and the dentist and the dental assistants were really friendly and informative. They really go out of their way to ensure that you are comfortable, which is very important to me. Very glad that I found them.

The office is cheating. I requested a regular teeth cleaning and they scheduled a periodic maintenance without any explanation beforehand and proceeded with the procedure. The regular cleaning is fully covered by my insurance, while I had to pay deductible and 10% out of pocket for periodic maintenance. I would never come back to this office again for service.

I've been coming to Personal Dental for 12 years and have always had a great experience. Dr. Nelson is one of the best there is. Also, my hygienist Adina is fantastic. She's sweet, polite, helpful, funny, and instructive. I'm definitely taking care of my teeth better because of it. Most importantly, I'm usually in and out of there in an hour and couldn't be more pleased. Even though I've moved further away, the service is worth the traffic, and I don't plan on switching to anyone closer to my house. I'd recommend personal dental to anyone looking for quality service and experience.

Super rude. The people at the front desk interrupted me and walked away multiple times while I was in the middle of a sentence. Spent three hours there (didn't validate my parking) wouldn't tell me if my insurance covered anything and the doctor told me I don't have any cavities when I clearly have two holes that are brown that I can stick my fingernail into. When I pointed them out, he told me that that was a stained filling even though I have literally never had a filling there and laughed at me when I told him I've never had a filling there. Wasted literally three hours for nothing and was literally ridiculed. I will NEVER go back here and they should not advertise themselves as a place that is good for people who have had bad experiences or get anxious at the dentist. Please don't go here.

I am disappointed to say the least. I went to the dentist I've gone to for years. But this time I was unnecessarily pressured into having x-rays, or they told me I would not be allowed to see the dentist. It started after my teeth were cleaned and I was waiting to see the dentist. The hygienist said my teeth were in great shape and there were no areas of concern. Usually the dentist comes in after and does a quick look. But this time - the office manager, Susan, demanded I first get a full set of x-rays. I've been a client here for years and have had multiple x-rays. This day I told her I didn't want x-rays. She kept on insisting and demanded I did or I wouldn't get to see the dentist. Certainly this requirement should have been announced prior to my cleaning, or at least she should have given me the option to refuse prior to any cleaning. But not with this "manager", who is overly aggressive and very rude. Her demands must be met, or no dentist. I asked her to have the dentist call me so that I could explain my concerns, which also never happened. A grievance with the insurance company has been filed. But regardless, this is not how anyone should be treated when going in for a regular teeth cleaning and checkup.

Truly the best dentists and dental office staff! I've been coming here for years and they always take great care of me. Everyone that works here is so helpful and professional. There is also a warm familial atmosphere that is always comforting but most especially during a major operation. They really make you feel like they care and they do their best to ease your nervousness and answer any your questions. I really can't recommend them enough.

The dentist was great for the route canal. Very kind and gentle. I was anticipating extreme pain but to my surprise none.
