Dr. Perkins grew up in Waldorf, MD. After graduating from Westlake High School in Waldorf, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Public Health. From there, he attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Perkins completed a residency in Advanced General Dentistry at University of Maryland, where he received advanced training in all aspects of general dentistry. Dr Perkins is committed to providing quality dental care to his patients and stays current on all the latest trends and technology in dentistry by participating in many hours of continuing education outside of the office. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with friends and family, running and martial arts.
As an Invisalign dentist, our team straightens teeth using a series of aligners. First, an impression of your teeth is taken so that a series of aligners can be created in a dental lab. The aligners themselves are made out of a thermoplastic material that is strong and at the same time flexible in order to be comfortable when worn for long periods of time. The material is virtually invisible.
The aligners should be worn for 22 hours a day and every two weeks; they need to be switched out with the next one in the series. Over a period of months, the aligners will slowly move teeth into place, making one minor adjustment at a time that is targeted to specific teeth. This helps your teeth to be comfortable as they are moved into position at a manageable pace. Once you are done wearing your aligners, your teeth should be perfectly straight.
Some patients need to wear attachments or ridges in order to ensure that their teeth move into place perfectly. An attachment is a clear bump that is made of an enamel colored composite and secured to the teeth. Bumps on your aligners will grip them in order to hold the aligner in place. Ridges work in a similar way only an indent is created instead of a raised bump. This can be necessary for more complicated cases to ensure that a particular tooth, or several teeth, move into place like they should.
Unlike wearing traditional braces, Invisalign will not make a major impact on your quality of life. Since the aligners are clear, it will not impact your appearance. Additionally, since they only need to be worn for 22 hours a day, they will not interfere with eating. This is a huge advantage because you can eat your favorite plate of ribs, go out for a romantic date, eat a caramel apple without worrying about something becoming stuck in your teeth or a wire being pulled out of place. This time also allows you to take the aligner out when having an important conversation or making a presentation at work. Overall, this is a convenient way to straighten your teeth and provides the maximum level of flexibility.
Some people are concerned about whether or not wearing an aligner will impact their speech. Most of our Baltimore patients tell us that they have to get used to wearing aligners after the first couple of days. Sometimes, patients have a slight lisp which goes away once they become used to speaking while wearing them. This is standard with any orthodontic procedure but fortunately; most people can speak normally within a couple of days.

Very disorganized and unprofessional office. I called to get information on the veeners which is on the website and she says that she is not familiar with the office website and had no clue what composite veneers are. Are you kidding me?? You work in an office and do not know what on the website that your company is advertising? And she began blurting out $125 for consultation, etc, I said I have a dentist who is a DDS and will send my X-rays to you. I can't keep doing xrays with every dentist I call just to get information, seems like a bait and switch practice. The first person cut the call three times, third time I had to speak with Dr Perkins and he gave the call back to the same lady who then asked for my number to give me a call back and before I could give my phone number she gives the phone to another female, who is also as clueless as the first. What a very chaotic and disorganized place. I wouldn't recommend here.

I'm going to be honest, I tried going to another dentist closer to our home since we moved; DISASTER. The quality of care, and kindness of the doctors and staff is worth the drive. I don't hate the dentist, but like most there is some anxiety and I can say this office is wonderful for putting you at ease and managing your pain. Dr. Modrell was amazingly patient and has a light hand. My same day appointment went better than I could have hoped

Wow what a good experience. To be honest I am scared of dentist. I told them and they took very good care of me. They talked me through what procedures they would be preforming. I would highly recommend them!

Dr. Perkins and Staff and very thorough in their quest to help each individual with their dental needs. Today was my first visit, very happy with my dental exam. I was taken in, on a minutes notice because of my personal needs. I haven't found a Dr. and staff so concerned about my dental needs. I highly recommend Perkins Dental on Annapolis Rd. I do not like going to the dentist normally but Dr. Perkins made the experience very comfortable. The entire staff made sure I was comfortable and Dr. Perkins walked me through the steps and informed me on everything they were doing and saved me from having to go to an oral surgeon. They are well priced for clients like myself who do not have insurance. I highly recommend Dr. Perkins office for your dental needs. My fiance has been having all her work done there as well and she has had nothing but good experiences also. Thank you all for your help and putting an end to the pain I was suffering from.

I thought my dental problem was unfixable. I was so uncomfortable and had a lot of anxiety. The receptionist was very understanding and got me in same day.
