Growing up, Dr. Caputo always assumed he would go to medical school; he was drawn to the idea of health care and wanted to spend his life solving complex problems in order to make patients lives better.
It was his brother and sister who convinced him to try dental school instead. Both of them had pursued their own dreams of medical education and felt like dental school would offer a better work/life balance.
When Dr. Caputo first began studying dentistry and actually started seeing patients, he fell in love with it. To this day, he says the best part of the job is hearing patient stories. He has had the pleasure of meeting interesting people from all over the world. While dentistry can be rewarding, the relationships are what keep Dr. Caputo engaged.
Dr. Caputo earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Furman University and his Dental degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He went on to complete a double residency training program in Advanced Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology, which included implantology at the Medical University of South Carolina. He also obtained a Master of Health Sciences degree while completing his Periodontics residency. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a recognized specialty of the American Dental Association.
Dr. Caputo has over 20 years experience in private practice in periodontal soft tissue surgery, bone grafting and implant surgery. He enjoys working closely with restorative dentists to provide optimal patient results. Dr. Caputo is actively involved in the Charleston area by organizing and lecturing for two ongoing continuing education study clubs for the local dental community. Additionally, he volunteers at the East Cooper Community outreach program, providing dental care for lower-income families.
Dr. Caputos professional memberships include: the South Carolina Dental Association Coastal District, American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, and the American Dental Association. He is a past president of the South Carolina Society of Periodontology.
Other memberships include: Pierre Fauchard Dental Honor Society and the South Carolina Academy of Dental Practice Administration. Additionally, Dr. Caputo currently serves as the secretary for the Southern Academy of Periodontology and will be president in 2023.
Dr. Caputo is married and has two daughters. They are parishioners at Saint Clare of Assisi on Daniel Island. When he is not treating patients, he enjoys fishing, snorkeling, snow skiing and spending time with family. Additionally, he is a saltwater aquarium enthusiast.

For Dr. Murphy, a career in oral health care almost felt inevitable. For one thing, he comes from a long line of dentists. For another, he has always gravitated toward science. And finally, he loves the feeling of working with his hands. Combine these factors, and it is not hard to understand why Dr. Murphy ended up pursuing a career in dentistry.
A native of Aiken, South Carolina, Dr. Murphy received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia and his Dental degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed a Residency in Advanced General Dentistry followed by the Post-Doctoral program in Periodontics at MUSC. Dr. Murphy is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and maintains extensive training and experience in periodontal soft-tissue surgical procedures, bone grafting and placing dental implants. He prioritizes a close working relationship with restorative dentists to ensure total comprehensive dental health of each patient.
Dr. Murphy is passionate about continuing education and service, and is deeply involved with a number of professional organizations which allow him to remain on the cutting edge of emerging techniques and practices. He currently serves as the President of the Coastal District of the South Carolina Dental Association and also serves on the Executive Council of the Southern Academy of Periodontology. He is a Past President of the South Carolina Society of Periodontology. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Periodontology.
Dr. Murphy believes strongly in giving back to the community where he lives and works. He has served on faculty as a Clinical Professor in the Division of Graduate Periodontics at MUSC for the past 15 years. He also provides dental care to at-risk families on a monthly basis at the East Cooper Community Outreach dental clinic (ECCO), where he has volunteered regularly for 15 years. He supports a number of charitable organizations including those focusing on serving the needs of children with autism and other special needs in the Charleston area.
Outside of the office, you can find Dr. Murphy spending time with his wife and two young children, often on the water. He enjoys outdoor activities including boating, kayaking, fishing and golf, and loves cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.
Dr. Murphy thrives on meeting patients, brainstorming unique solutions, creating individualized treatment plans and providing life-changing care. He is proud to serve patients throughout the Charleston area as a partner at Periodontal Associates.
